I have been wanting to move to China for a bit and wandered who here lives in China ? I ll have some questions in the future for you guys
I live in Shanghai, as does Judge4re. We moved here March 1, and are supposed to be here for two years. But, it could be longer. Unfortunately, our fcars are in the States. Judge is brave enough to drive here. I am not. I've only driven once since we arrived, and that was because I was the only sober one in the bunch.
And I make up the third member of the Shanghai Ferrari Club, been here for a while now. I enjoy Shanghai, but it is very different from many other overseas postings.
Hi Michael, Pleasure to meet you as well. Sorry I did not get a chance to talk to you guys longer. How was hanging out with the Ferrari mechanics on Monday night?
I heard it is approx. twice the amount in USD$ for a Ferrari in China when you include the import duties and taxes. Ouch.
We had a blast and I have three new friends. We ran into Massa at a bar I took them to after dinner. Life is good.
What bar? After having drinks and dessert at the Grand Hyatt in the Gin Mao Tower building we headed over to a bar/club called Park 97. Not a shabby joint except for that it was jam-packed with bodies.
I just visited the Ferrari dealer in Shanghai a few days ago. Prices are approx double US prices with a 3-year waiting list on the V-8 cars. I have to say that, after spending two weeks in China, I can't imagine wanting to drive an F-car there.
Hi Wayne, You should have given me a call, I could have shown you how to drive through Shanghai in a Ferrari at 10mph without overheating the car. Or given you instruction in how to avoid bike's and people, its great fun. or we could have gone out on the A30 , A4, A9 and gone for a blast. For a Ferrari the city is not much fun particularly in the Puxi side, but over the water in Pudong the roads are much bigger and with less traffic. Once in the country side the traffic is less but you have to be very careful as red lights just mean go faster. Also the F1 track is planning to have some open days, that will be fantastic, I have already ran there in my car, it is awesome. Its not the best place to have Ferrari but hey I live here so one is better then none. You do not see F cars in Shanghai often (except mine) one guy bought a 360 for his 9 year old daughter just recently and has put the car into storage. There is a 360 that lives in Puxi but only comes out around midnight, runs down the bar streets with the roof down and loud music then gets put away again. Anyway hoped you like the city.
Hi Michael. Next time I'm in town, I'll be sure to look you up. As far as running down the street with the top down, someone actually drives an open-top car in Shanghai? I would think you'd need a shower after the first five minutes!
Wayne: Next time you're in town, I'll host a BBQ at my house. It will get you out of eating too much Chinese food while you're over there. Actually, the invitation goes out to all f'chatters. Cheers.
