Just sent in my seat choices for 2009!
I've been going since 2005 and it seems to just get better and better each year! Needless to say, I plan on going again next year.
This past weekend was my first Canadian GP and yes I plan on returning to see Kimi defending his 2008 WDC.....
If everything goes according to plan, I will have a better seat than any of you. I am hoping to run the GT3 Cup support race that weekend
+1. In fact, it was my first ever GP. I hope to attend again next year and thinking about sitting at the hairpin, seems like a lot of action there! I was in Sec. 31 (turn 9) this year.
Arrwin-I was at the hairpin and saw the move of the race-Massa passing HK and RB....going back there again...
I was at the hairpin too and saw many actions! It's my first GP visit and I LOVE Montreal, but I want to visit another GP city next year. One different GP each year. Hope the US dollar gets a little bit stronger otherwise going to Europe is gonna be a pain to my pocket.
The wife & I had great seats this year. Sat right across from the Ferrari pits in Gold 1 sec 6 row TT. How does F1 select who is in what pit? I guess just lucky to have such great seats. Leaving the race on Sunday was a little bit of a pain. We went to the metro (subway) closest to the track after the race and the crowd was enormous. Stood there for 20 minutes and no one moved. So I decided we should walk across the St. Laurence river bridge to get closer to our hotel or closer to another metro station. Didn't know it was a 2.5 hour walk. The wife wanted to throw me in front of a speeding train when we finally got to where we could take a taxi. But overall it was a great time for our first F1 race. Would definitely do it next year. One thing though is the currency exchange. When we landed in Montreal there was a currency x-change booth in the terminal where the sign said "we take $0.91 and pay 1.05, thinking that for every US dollar I gave him, I get back more in Canadian dollars. NOT. Somehow I ended up getting back 91% of a US dollar in Canadian money. Then coming home, a different booth gave me back $32.00 US after giving him $40.00 Canadian. I'm puzzled at the new math. Oh well, live & learn for next year.
I was in Section 1,1,H great view and a cool breeze all day long, also above the real high notes of the F1 exhaust, did not need ear plugs.
i have been going for 10 years now section to section we endet up at section 24 front row 20 seats so one complete bench you can feel the rubber marbels flying right up ,and we are 10-12 feet from the track at the tighdest turn on the track,we alaso found a little place so we can take the ferry 5 min ride and we at the track NO Subway.
I had the opportunity to sit with the New England Ferrari group in 34 (1/2 way up) inside the hairpin. What an awesome vantage point. I thought sitting at turn 1 at Indy for the US GP was good, but this was definitely better. I'm coming back and bringing my wife who was quite disappointed to not have been able to go. It's funny how after the race you can still hear the F1 cars in the sounds around you...
The last hairpin is so close to the subway, only took me one hour from the track back to the hotel. Although the shops do take US dollar, it's not always 1 to 1 (look at the recipt, the ex rate is mentioned on the receipt), and some even take 1 dollar service charge.
I had a great time. For the third time. However I'm probably done with it for the foreseeable future. Hoping we'll get USGP back either next year or in 2010 (chances are good). If the USGP isn't back next year, a trip to the new Euro GP at Valencia is in order.
I just bought my tickets for next year today. Same seats - GS11, Section 7, front row. I love these seats. I had a Paddock Pass offered to me, and declined because I was with my wife and it was a single pass. But I realized how much I'd probably be giving up in the experience by leaving these seats. The sound, sights and fans around you make it a great experience. I'm sure the Paddock is great, and one day I'll try it out, but I thoroughly enjoy being in the stands with all the other F1 nuts. And the pix I get from this spot are much better than the ones I'd probably get on the straight. F1 cars under braking are pretty amazing. Some of my pix are on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ph-stop I do agree with some of the other posts about the Bud stuff being overdone, and that F1 driver/car access could be improved. The Thursday garage walk courtesy Bridgestone is pretty cool.
