Chelsea is about 75% EMO. Not too bad of a dress and without the piercings, I like the style.
Pete. What the **** is EMO??? Stand by, I'm gonna google it. Well, that was a big help. Tight jeans, long straight bangs, and rock band tee shirts with converse sneakers. This is a fashion statement??? Looks like the 60's all over again. Lets just hope it's peace, love and understanding this time, not drugs, sex, and rock and roll. dave (one toke over the line) m
EMO = Emotional. Like this kid who cries because he got an Audi instead of Mercedes Benz. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUAPXA86CU4
And.remember.that.you.have.to.type.EMO.and.thic.glasses.are.back.in.style. also,.you.have.to.be.skinny.to.be.EMO.
EMO? Is that anything like those "Hannah Montana" and "High School Musical" shows that my granddaughters love so much? I find that I really, really, seriously detest those shows and the lifestyle they depict.
Dressing "emo" is one thing, but BEING emo is nother. Emo = emotional and the idea is that they do wear the skinny jeans, rocker T-shirts, rock & roll jewelry, typically short hairstyle (the guys use straigteners and wax) and they don't smile. They just act all depressed, it's ridiculous and dramatic.. it's EMO! Maybe it's the product of today's world giving anti-depressants to teens to make it through the "tough" life they have in High School.

Not EMO. EMO is the worst "group" anyone could be a part of b/c EMOs are just a sorry ass excuse for "depressed" kids. They're not even depressed, they're posers. Thanks to EMOs, people who really do have depression problems aren't taken in high regards like they should be from fellow students. The only thing that irks me more than poser-EMOs who don't know they're just posing, are people who mix up Punk Rock kids w/ EMOs. But I find Punk Rock and EMO kids equally stupid. If someone has a deep problem of depression and injuring themselves, they're not going to necessarily be concerned about making themselves look like a roadie from Marilyn Manson's band. Quite the opposite.
one thing I find really disturbing about emo kids is that they think depression is cool. I bet more than half of them are faking their "sadness". I have a theory, (Shut up, I like that word). Emo kids/teens are emotionally immature. They act like kids. They pout all the time, and act as though the world revolves around them (everyone needs to know that they are "depressed"). They also crave the attention that a kid wants. They want to stand out, so they wear different clothes. Now you could say that they are trying to create a look for themselves and be individuals blah blah blah. When all of your friends look just like you do, that is not being an individual. These same kids are into that whole anime stuff. 17 - 20 yr olds obsessed with cartoons, more specifically, fantasy cartoons. A cartoon where someone needs a magic spell or whatever they hell it is to defeat the evil doer sounds like something my 3 year old cousin would watch. Again, I suspect most emo kids are just faking this whole thing to fit in with some group, but I find it pretty outrageous that young adults who want to be treated like adults digress to child-like behaviors and habits.
I bet there are some kids who cut to fit in. As horrible as that sounds, I wouldn't put it past someone who really wants to fit in.
Unforunately, I agree. But not all EMOs cut. They just consider themselves EMO because of the way they dress.
Sigh... Im sure no one on this forum ever went through a phase to fit in with a group during their youth...
+1. i was always in that group of friends in high school, the ones that just got along with everyone, the popular kids, the goths, the losers, the stoners, etc. and some of the stuff we saw still blows my mind to this day.
Dito. Chelsea (13) mainly likes the fasion end of EMO. She loves her jeans, Converse shoes and rock 'n roll t-shirts (That I think are way cool). Most of her t-shirts come from a Christian teen clothing store (That I can not remember the name of), A&F and Hot Tpoic. She knows darn well that there are aspects of EMO that I will not allow in the house. As far as depression goes, she is not a depressed kid and stays away from razor blades!
she sounds more punk rock. And she learned what a punk rock attitude does to her brand new computer...
My sister and all her friends are 'Emo' and Im around them a lot. I think you dont have much practical experience if you think that depression is what its all about.. its about being in touch with your emotions in general..granted they (as kids often do) exaggerate it to a humorous extreme...but its not just about depression. In particular a large focus is about heartbreak ( which is different than depression) ..listen to Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance.. its mostly heartbreak. Narrowing its focus down to depression is sort of like saying all jocks are about violence and all metalheads are about getting stoned. As for the Emo kids who cut themselves and otherwise harm themselves... they obviously have psychological problems and need help..but guess what...theyd have that problem even if Emo didnt exist.
