Dear Comrades, From time to time many images are placed for us all to enjoy. But whose Efforty is the fairest of them all? RufMD's looks superb. But so does Joe Sackey's. But, Joe's car does have the Classiche Certification. So does this unequivocal statement of provenance tip the scales in favour of Joe's car? Or are there others that are even better? With kind regards, 512 Tea Are
Graham, As you already know, my 40 is a mere speed weapon and I pay little regard to its physical disposition other than fixing things that break or fail - and being an Italian car, let me assure you that this is an ongoing process :-0 True, I tend to go overboard and spare nothing when it comes to keeping it in fine fettle, but the goal is for it to operate at least as well as when it left Maranello if not better, and the peace of mind that generates is priceless However, you are correct that Ferrari SpA have confirmed that my 40 has passed the Classiche Certification and they are in the process of creating a voluminous book on the vehicle and its disposition as we speak. Quite what all this means escapes me but Im assured by my good freinds at the dealership that "its all good" and I have great faith in them so I suppose it is indeed all good. However, in my own heart and in my mind, my Efforty is peerless, and that my freind is all that matters. Maybe its for no other reason than because its mine! Joe www.joesackey.com
They all pale in comaprison to the MIGHTY DINO!! That's Reading, PA USA, BTW, and Mr. and Mrs. dm_n_stuff are seated behind the windshield. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I made a serious attempt at figuring out what Tea Are ment... Looked at many F40 photos... Amazing cars... Amazing... Know what I came down with??? Hey..That one is red...That one is too...So is this one...Hey...Another red one...Red again... I felt like I was looking at a blood sample. A very expesive blood sample. . . . . . . . But I still couldnt figure out what he smoked before posting this... Best, Jon
Dear Comrade Tipo815, Joe has gone for a tea-break. However, in his absence it has fallen to me to defend our august Comrade. Indeed, Comrade Joe Sackey drives his car hard and long when performing his spirited drives across the plains of California. Accordnigly, he has not contradicted himself as you have stated, he has casually uttered an ambivalent statement that has become misconstrued. And yes, of course Comrade Joe Sackey cares for his motor car like no other Effortyist (other than RufMD) and I was merely endeavouring to establish who holds the best Efforty within his possession. Seemingly, no one wishes to actually make a clear cut statement in this regard. Accordingly, I shall accept the laurels for myself. After all, my Efforty is an original - much like Picasso's Mona Lisa. And the molestation of the aforementioned with a moustache, as has happened with the USA F-40 would be anathema to most right thinking people. So the English Lightweight F-40 wins again. Bravo! Jeffrey, When I said "I go overboard when it comes to keeping it in fine fettle" I was strictly referring to the car's MECHANICALS as the kind folks at FMOC will testify to I guess my earlier post was a poor way of trying to say: Id rather have a well-fettled car (mechanically), than a concours trailer queen that doesnt operate to peak performance and has lots of things wrong... Joe www.joesackey.com
Dear Comrade Joe Sackey, I concur with all that you say comrade. A technician who visited here a week or two ago did say that the concours cars are usually very poor specimens. He said they were fine just as long as they remained as static exhibits, but can be very problematical should a new owner begin to use it for its true purpose. He thought that the cars that remain static are nothing like as good as those cars that have been well used and tended in a commensurate manner. He believes that an F-40 should easily cover a quarter of a million smiles should it be used judiciously and not abused. With kind regards, 512 Tea Are
Scince your technician has determined that "concours cars are usually very poor specimens" who am I to argue? In fact, I have recalled concours cars breaking down at concours events! Indeed, in driving various F40s, I have noticed a VAST difference in performance between them, with some cars being "quick" examples, whilst other micro-mileage examples were sluggish by comparison. At any rate, the answer to who has the best F40 is very easy: You do. For you have the final example of the Holy Grail of Supercars. The one-and-only unit that will forever signify the End of an Era. Comrade, we salute you! Joe www.joesackey.com
I attended a F40 only road event last year. Several concours bubble wrapped trailer queens were in the group along with a couple of very high (+100,000 KM) Italian registered F40's. During the rally stage, several of the F40s "failed to proceed". All in this group were from the bubble wrap group. Beautiful but useless.
Dear Comrade Boxer, Your excellent post precisely exemplifies the views of the technician to whom I referred within a preceding post. Certainly, and above all other Effortyists your own experiences should only ever be defined as the holy grail. For the magnificent adventures that you have enjoyed within the companionship of your Efforty, and that have been written in such elaborate and comprehensive detail with such supreme eloquence and sublime erudition, therefrom to be published to perfection in highly respected and august journals. And whencefrom read and enjoyed by many of those who visit the portals of this den of occasional spats and altercation. Indeed, your experience of many years long standing unequivocally places you within an exalted position at the pinnacle of expertise to proffer a clear cut statement based upon nothing other than gargantuan observation and personal accomplishment - rather than the subjectivity and unsubstantiated views and opinions that are often expounded with such vigour and alacrity from a base that is seemingly so regularly underpinned merely by the knowledge of butchers, bakers and candlestick makers - often espousing their views and opinions as though they were incontrovertible facts. With best wishes from England, where today, the sun is shining brightly, which makes a welcome change from the huge degree of precipitation endured of recent times. May I trouble you please, and for the sake of clarity and completeness, to kindly confiirm, the smileage covered upon your last European adventure within your Efforty and the time that it took - in days? With kind regards. 512 Tea Are
"Failed to proceed". I like the subtlety It usually happens at inopportune moments much to the embarassment of the owner and is typical of trailer queens I once saw a low-mileage car break down right before the drive over the podium to accept an award! I must say the Italians rank up there with the Japanese and the Germans for using the cars... Joe www.joesackey.com
You mean butchers, bakers & candlestick makers (et al) cannot become a jack-of-all-trades and thus an authority on the motor cars we covet so much? I will refrain therefore from asking my gardener any further questions on his opinion on demisting the front lamp lenses of our F40. By the way, my wife confirms that the reverse lamps are indeed the circular items within the amber units on the far end of each side of the rear. She chided me for even doubting that this was the case . Of course, if I was employed as a candlestick maker rather than in my current capacity, she wouldnt have been so cross with me! One would have thought as an F40 owner I would know better... Keep up the good work, watch over that last-of-a-series F40, and dont feel threatened by PMs (from a country where freedom of speech reigns supreme) attempting to ban you from references to any personage. You have my express authority to proceed and do what you always do! Joe www.joesackey.com
The last major drive I did was Lisbon/Maranello. 1500 miles and I did it over a 3 day period (afternoon, full day, following morning). Weather was good for most of the drive except a 3 hour period of heavy rain in Italy.
I will settle this debate that out fine comrade from across the pond has felt the need to start.............................. MY F40 is the FINEST!! I don't have it yet. But when it arrives.........I'm sure it WILL be the BEST!
Let me tell you one thing about car people. Every last one will tell you their car is the best Perception and reality are two seperate things though... Joe www.joesackey.com
