So I started a thread a while back about driver predictions. Now that we have a few races finished, who have we been surprised positively by and who have we been surprised negatively by?

    As for me...

    Surprised positively
    Jarno Trulli
    Kimi Raikkonen
    David Coulthard

    Surprised Negatively (with some explanation)
MS - obvious, although I dont think its his fault at all, I feel bad for the poor guy!
Montoya - I really like this guy, but how can anyone claim he's a top tier driver when he gets his butt handed to him by Kimi! With a few stupid mistakes to boot, he's not looking so good this year
Fisi - one win and a few pretty disappointing finishes. He's paling in comparison to Ferdie
Button - mediocre performances but his mouth and attitude haven't helped him, IMO.

I think both Minardi and both Jordan, err, Midland drivers are doing about what I expected. Heidfeld and Webber have good and bad so don't fall into either category. The rest are about as-expected (for me). So who are you impressed and unimpressed with?

In my opinion Montoya should be handed a two race suspension for his poor judgement on Saturday. He endagered the lives of other drivers and should be punished for his unsafe driving. He should also recieve a 5 race probation period after he returns to insure that he does not repeat such bad behavior.

Michael Schumacher and Rubens drove a great race. They have shown that they are not ready to give up yet. I am sure that the come back will be complete in Nurburgring with a Ferrari 1 - 2!

Nick Heidfeld has put an end to Webber mania and shown that Webber is nothing special. Nick drove a solid race and clearly showed that he is the number 1 driver at Williams.

BAR Honda were not missed at all. I feel sorry for Button who is stuck with such an unethical outfit. Button should move to another team next year. It was good that Honda could not buy Sato a race seat on another team.

    Impressed:
Kimi-the iceman cometh to claim the crown in 2005.
Coulthard-a new team, taking over a mediocre Jaguar car, and he scores points almost every weekend.
Toyota-Proof that if you spend enough money you can build a fast car in F1 and do well even with only average drivers.

    Not Impressed:
Button-this guy is the biggest prima donna in motorsports. Win a race or shut up. If he wasn't from F1-mad Britain he would be back page news.
Montoya-another little puffed up rooster that has actually won a race or two. He has the car for sure, but has not been near his teamate so far this year. This will be a pivotal year in his career, IMO.
JV-not impressed, but not surprised either. When he signed the 2 year deal I predicted he wouldn't finish it out. As it is now I'm not sure he will make through this summer.

    Absolutely completely totally disgusted:
Bridgestone-they have the best driver, best car, and best team in F1. Nearly unlimited teasting time and budget, and they cannot make tires that are capable of qualifying in the top half of the the field. I wonder how hard it would be for Ferrari to buy Michelins and shave off the lettering and hand write BRIDGESTONE on the side with white grease pen?

Kimi has rocketed to the spotlight in the past two races, and Im loving it!!! If we cant have Schumi, then long live Kimi!!

What the hell is going on with Ferrari?! Schumi is definatly giving it his all, but its just not working in his favor... and RB? Oh man, that guy is having the worst luck!!!!

I agree on the fact that Bridgestone needs to make a major change. Whatever they are doing, just sucks. Michelin is walking ALL over them!!!

    I really like this post!!

I think that Alonso has his work cut out if he wants to stay atop the driver standings. I think that the Driver Championship for this year will go to Kimi. I got a chuckle out of your puffed rooster comment - so very true. I still maintain that Dennis ought to switch places with his second driver and test drivers. JPM's style of driving seems to be the way to go in NASCAR - perhaps he could find a seat there or even better would be the "train races" or "bus races" carried on Speed Tv.

    Great idea about the tires!!

    Great idea for a thread.

    Impressed:
    - Alonso
    - Kimi
    - Mc Laren car
    - Webber (I thought he was total wanker, but he is duking it out with Nick)
    - Toyota

    Disappointed:
    - Montoya (no Kimi - JPM battle at all)
    - MS (making a lot of mistakes)
    - Sauber car, expected a LOT more from it

Obviously this is a very biased opinion since I'm only focusing on a few drivers I really care about. Other drivers (probably Trulli) did well this year, but they're not on my radar.

Overall I agree this will get VERY though for Alonso to clinch the title. Kimi is currently unbeatable. Renault is in a world of trouble and those 20 points will melt like ice.

    Disappointed:
    - Montoya (he hasn't been the old Montoya like when he was with Williams)
    - Sauber (just like tifosi12 said)
    - Button (didn't have a good car but I have to agree with sjb509, just shut up and drive. We don't want to know that you're as good as Schumi.
    - Bridgestone
    - Renault giving Fisi a bad car while Alonso was winnning races.

I like that Webber and Heidfeld are pushing the Williams hard and having a good sporting battle without it degrading into the usual childish pouting and posturing.

I dislike whatever is screwing up their launch control.

I like seeing Michael battle through the field without a dominant car.

I dislike the mopery of some drivers when a 7-time World Champion attempts to overtake them.

I like the Renaults strong performance.

I dislike the way Flabio always pits out his long-sleeved shirts.

    I like Kimi & Trulli.

I'm growing to dislike the former's teammate, and I've never liked the latter's.

I admire the effort DC is putting in the season. Most professionals have a hard time giving their all in similar situations, and I applaud him.

I like that we haven't heard much out of Stoddardt's mouth lately.

I dislike the FIA's handling of the BAR situation.

I dislike seeing B-Grade American celebrities like Paris Hilton mugging on the starting grid.

I like seeing unlikely American celebrities like Kid Rock mixing on the grid with the world's elite in Monaco.
