    All --

I have concluded, after laying my hard-earned money down on several occasions, that pound-per-pound, dollar-per-dollar, Porsche makes a better sports car than Ferrari.

Now, before you flame me, demand that I be kicked off this board, insist I have my balls cut off, or otherwise debased, please allow me to redeem myself. Namely, I can't stand Porsche people. Lord knows, I have tried. But who gives a flying you-know-what about the alloys used in a thinga-ma-job, or whether waxing your car twice a week is enough?

While I understand the importance of safety, have you ever been to a PCA track day? No wonder the krauts lost the war. Geeze Louise, whatever happened to having fun? I've never forget the driver's meeting at one FCA event, "Can we pass on the straight?" "Sure." "Can we pass on the corners?" "Sure, why not?" In other words, if you got the dough to play, it is assumed you know what you're doing. Imagine that.

And drinking, don't get me started. Porsche types will nurse a beer until the hops start growing again. Going to a FCA or a F-Chat bash is a whole another story. Man, da thangs I used to do, I can't do no mo.

So, what should I do? Should I duct tape a F355 body to a GT3? How about if I put a Stradale stripe on my Cayman? Or what if I hook up a sound system that blasts the sounds of a Ferrari F1 car as it blows fire while upshifting?

    Your thoughts?

Just iron your shorts and put a crease line down the front of each pant leg and you'll fit right in with the P crowd..they won't suspect a thing.

Next sneak the 355 bodied 911 into the line up. If one of the geeks gets suspicious just start talking about how you put 6 layers of Zaino polish on the front fascia so the bugs wouldn't get stuck to the paint while racing. Next thing you know you'll be yakin' it up with the guys and one might even offer you some of his purell hand sanitizer letting you know your welcome within the group.

I gave up a couple of decades ago, it's a lost cause - different planet. Besides, I dont own a pair of 500 buck loafers.I think that the lack of oil leaks affect the thought process... Hang out with the Alfa guys, they understand..

But why do you think Porsche make a better sportscar than Ferrari?.

In your post you make alot of effort to slag off the people who own Porsche's and talk with delight about Ferrari owners, but at no point do you explain your initial statement.

To Me, every new 911 variant looks the same as the previous version and with the number of cars Porsche turns out every year, I just don't see them as being anything special.

I can't even remember the last time any Porsche made Me look twice at it ( with the exception of the 911 who's engine blew up in front of Me while driving to work one morning, and then I only looked twice to try and figure where it was, in amongst all the steam and smoke).

Porsche builds a great "sports car" Ferrari builds an unbelievable "EXOTIC car." Two different animals for two different drivers.

I've owned both. Actually owned one of each at the same time a couple of times.

Porsche is a great car. fun, fast, mostly bulletproof, but...

Ferrari is something else. It's more than a car. Can't put it into words, but, when you're behind the wheel, you know the difference. They're just a different kind of ride. One of a kind. Singular experience. Porsche doesn't have that anymore.

So... buy the friggin' Porsche if it lights your fire. Great car. But, buy the Ferrari if you want an inferno.

Oh, and I hang out Saturdays with Porsche and Ferrari guys. Only difference is the color jacket they wear. Otherwise you'd never tell 'em apart.

All good guys, doesn't seem to matter which car they own.

Porsche makes great daily drivers. Ferrari builds great sports cars.

You know the difference between a porcupine and a Porsche, right?

I drove a 911 for 16 years and have had more driving pleasure in my Ferrari 328 GTS in a short two years.

The Porsche folks are filled with people who's lifetime goal was to drive a Porsche. The best car in the world EVER made is the one they are currently driving. Their car defines them. Ferrari owners, on the other hand...

I've got both and I don't hang out with the Porsche crowd. It is a phenomenal car, bulletproof, and certainly capable, but the Ferrari is like nothing else.

When Porsche owners were in high school, they dreamed of joining a large group and fitting in with the crowd.

Ferrari owners worked hard and did everything possible to set themselves above the crowd and be different.

I've got both in the garage.Going to grocery store, mundane errands..the beetle.

At the very least you should put a "my other car is a Ferrari" or "I miss my Ferrari" bumper sticker or license plate holder on your P.....and then post a pic :D

Porsche has plenty bragging rights: The exquisite 917 & Le Mans - my God. 911 in all its shapes & forms to include the b*tchin turbo. Somehow it still it does not have the same mystique as Ferrari. There is no substitute…

When I was shopping around sampling everything I could, I came to the conclusion that only one car did it for me. Porkers do nothing for me - Ferrari all the way baby!!!!

You went wrong justifying it from the $$ standpoint..

Moorespeed has a sweet 348tb for sale, he went thru it personally...$38K would do it.

Funny, but sadly true. I guess Porsche owners suffer from Horsie envy.

This is a great idea. Maybe I'll get a bumber sticker made that says, "When I grow up, I want to be a Ferrari!" This way, I'll get to piss off both groups!

This one is easy. What I actually said was "pound-for-pound, dollar-for-dollar, Porsche makes a better sports car."

To illustrate, what is the MSRP on a new Scuderia? $220,000? Okay, lets say that you're a tough cookie and get the price down to $200,000.

Hmm, how much Porsche can I buy for 200 large?

First, I'd buy a brand new Turbo with a PDK tranny for, say, $120,000, and I'd have a car that will give a Scud absolute fits.

Next, I'd buy a used GT3 for around $80,000 and have a car that can kick Ferrari butt all over the track.

Sorry, I don't mean to bust bubbles, but you asked.

I mean come on. Ferraris are a lot of things, but a good value for the money? Are you kidding? BAWHAHAHAHA!

Sure, once upon a time, you could buy a new Ferrari, drive it six months, and flip it for what you paid. I did this in 2004 with a Stradale. But, I'm thinking those days are going to be a long time gone.

Truth is, though, owning a Ferrari means never having to explain. You buy a Ferrari because you want to, and you can. No other explanations are necessary. This is what I have always liked about most Ferrari people. Once you are at the top of the food chain, you no longer have to be true to your school. Hell, the typical FCA event has plenty of non-Ferraris, sometimes even ricers! Next time you go to a PCA event, look around. You'll see nothing but Beetles.

The point is Ferrari owners are secure in their identity as car guys. You don't have to defend the brand. Hell, you can even diss it when appropriate. (Have you ever heard a PCA guy criticize a P-Bug?) You don't a problem buying other brands. Hell, you don't even have a problem driving a Toyota to work.

So, even though I have gone over to the dark side, I still enjoy hanging F-guys. I'm just waiting for that $100k 599 Napolis promised me. :)

Of course the 911 is "perfect" it hasn't really changed in 40 years. If Ferrari had continued to develop the 275 GTS into the 999 GTS it would be perfect also. If you look at the 275/330/365 series evolution, Ferrari kept changing the cars but learning from their mistakes. Look at the 308/328 series same thing. Now.... Ferrari goes back to square one every few years and introduces new problems with each series. This isn't to say I don't respect the 911, I do. I know the current 911 can run rings around my car and would cause me half the headaches and if I had a few extra bucks I'd pick up a 993. However, the thought of getting rid of my Queen for a souped up Beetle.... never.
