After owning a few higher end cars for awhile, I just have to scratch my head about how other people act when around them. My wife and I both drive our cars regularly, and here's a few questions that we'd like to have answered. I'm sure there's many, many more unanswered questions out there, these are just the first 10 that come to mind.

    1. Why, on a 4 lane road, what's the point in racing by us really fast, just to pull in front as if to cut us off, then stop and turn really fast? Are we supposed to say 'Oooooh, how impressive'?

    2. Why do you want to race us off the line, when you're in something like an M3? How ridiculous is that?

    3. Why would you even think about doing this in a Ricer? We know you've spent a lot of time working on your car, be proud of it! We don't think you really want to find out how slow it truly is.

    4. Why do at least 80% of all the Z06's out there have to peel out when driving by?

    5. Why, when you're gathered around the car at a shopping mall or somewhere else, do you all run for the hills when we show up to get in the car? Wouldn't you want to chat up the owner? I sure would!

    6. Why do you drive along in one of the two rear blind spots while trying to take pictures? And if we speed up or slow down, you do too? Do you have any idea how dangerous a location you are in?

    7. Why, after talking to us about something like the F430, do you say something like, 'Yeah, it's nice, but I'd rather have a Lamborghini'!

    8. Why are some people so passionately in love with one brand of car, while so disgusted with another? For example, many Ferrari lovers would rather have a terminal disease than say the name Lamborghini. Many Lamborghini lovers are the same way. Can't you see that they are both fantastic in their own ways?

    9. Why, when we park so freakin far out in the parking lot that you'd need a GPS system just to find us, do you STILL park right next to us? Yes, we probably won't ding your door opening ours, but don't you realize that the reason we parked so far away in the first place is so people DON'T park right next to us? Shoot, the F430's doors swing so far open that we almost have to park in the next county just to get in/out of the car!

    10. Why the weird fan demographics? I won't go into the ethnic break-downs for the different cars we own, but it's definitely there. The truly weirdest one is that older women (60 years and up) seem to love Lamborghinis! Why is that?

Re #4: Funny, I was out in my 328 and a guy in a C6 Corvette was next to me at a light on a 45mph road. The light changed and he nailed it. I obviously didn't drag race the guy, but I wonder if he knew his car was 20 years newer than mine.

#5 hasn't happened to me. Again, maybe a 328 is old enough that it elicits more nostalgia than jealousy.

I agree with pretty much everything you wrote about driving a exotic. But this part just isn´t 'ridiculous' when you are in Sweden. We have plenty of BMW turbo´s packing 500-1200hp that would make a exotic car look like a Smart, off the line that is.

Perhaps, but I'm not so sure a 1200 bhp M3 could hold it's tires to the surface if pushed to the limit. Plus, against something like the LP640, it's still pretty risky.

I hooked up my old 536hp mitsubishi evolution 1 from 1993 to a g-tech meter. I did a 0-62mph run on regular street tires on the street, and it showed 3.1 seconds to 62mph from a standstill. I thought that was way to quick and the gtech must have shown wrong and forgot about it. A couple of months afterwards we took my brothers Evo 2 to the drag strip and I got an idea. I told him to hook up the same gtech that I used earlier on to his Evo 2 and we could compare the gtech to the timeslip we got from the dragstrip.

He did a 10.525 on the 1/4 mile according to the timeslip, and a 10.524 on the gtech. So it did show accurately, and 3.1 seconds to 62mph is alot faster than a LP640 isn´t it? :)

But there is no point in buying a exotic for redlight racing. I enjoy exotic cars when it comes to that twisty mountain bend, with a V12 screaming behind your neck throbbing that gated shifter into 3rd.

Anything pushing 1200+ horse will nuke and pave any exotic produced today. Sure, it's going to have traction issues, but once it gets going it'll eat an LP640 alive until it runs out of gearing. Doesn't matter if it's a BMW, Supra, or a turbo'd Honda.

I've had my ass handed to me plenty of times by boosted up imports while driving an exotic, and handed a number of Ferrari owners theirs in my own over the years. I never quite understood the mindset some people who drive a given car have. I drive a Ferrari, so I'm too good to race a 'vette. Or I drive a 'vette, so I'm too good to race a Honda, and so on and so forth.

In my experience there are two kinds of people in that respect, those who are enthusiasts and don't care what you drive, so long as you enjoy doing it, and those who buy a given car as a status symbol and complain about the other peons on the road.

The latter tend to be just as annoying as "Ricers". Fortunately, most who I associate with are the former, and will yack with anyone who appreciates their car(s), regardless of what they drive.

When I get that awesome exotic, I am gonna keep a box of Capt'n Crunch cereal behind the rear passenger seat. So when these little "wind-up" racers pull up to me at a stop light making revs, I am gonna pull it out, show it to them, and point at their car, then point at the box! Then, that should shut them down! lol

Why is it that when ya pull up next to certain cars at the lights. They make out like there isnt a ferrari sat next to them, and dont want to be seen as looking. And some do there best to look like there looking at somthing out the window, then go home and tell every one they saw a ferrari.....strange siht:)

I prefer when people do that instead of gawking at me and the car, it makes me nervous. Once in a murci roadster with the top off at a redlight with me behind the wheel, I had a whole 50 people staring me down when waiting to cross the road infront. The worst 2 minutes of my life behind the wheel. It´s one thing when they confront you at a gas station to just talk about the car, but not just staring like zombies at a red light or trying to ram me off the highway while taking pics.

Saw your wife driving the F430 2 weeks ago, I was in the black Maserati. I honked, don't know if she noticed or not. Is that your yellow Lamborghini LP640 in town? I've seen it recently in Norman and over around 104th and assumed it was yours but didn't know for sure.

No.11 Why do people say "I love Ferrari's, always have, I am really into them. Ever since I was a kid, got all the posters, read all the mags. They are wonderful arn't they. Whats the current new price of a 355!!!!!!!...?

No.12 (Same person as 11) How come they say they cant afford one (and know all about them) yet they turned up in an $80,000 BMW or Merc!...?

Yep, that's ours. We've had it a week now, and I know it's probably not Kosher to say on this site.... but it's unbelievable! It's a weird history how we happened to buy it, but it's here now, and it's definitely a keeper.

I'll tell her to keep an eye out for a black Maserati and wave back if she hears you honk.

Now if I could just find a good source of high octane gas here in Norman!

I do agree with most of your questions, people do act very strangely. Congrats on the LP640, that is amazing! I also don't understand the people who can't appreciate cars for what they are, not for what their brand name is.

Matthew brings up a good point, lots of people do it not because they think they can win, but because they want to see you demonstrate your power.

True! When I was riding a Gallardo recently whenever we got at a stop light I looked around to see people's reactions. Amazing to see only the little kids gawking and the older people acting like they didn't notice! I knew they liked it too though judging by how many older people crowded around the cars when they were parked. But I guess I enjoyed the attention just because it was my first ride in such a car and I'm sure owners feel differently about the attention.

I only know the answer to these 2 so here goes.
As for number 5 I have had a guy act like a total ****** so i have been timid about talking to them now but i still try to make an effort talk to them and so far its been better.
As for number 9 When ever i see a nice car be it ferrari, saleen, Lambo, etc etc I park next to them but take up 2 spots so that way you dont get some jerk who parks super close. And also so the owner can open his doors with no problems, Its my way of showing respect.

Sometimes people are aren't sure of what type of reaction to expect from the owner, it could be someone like you are it could some guy who'll knock you out if you touch his precious Ferrari. It's kinda like hanging around a guy's wife/girlfriend to much.

Honestly ... probably 99% of the people on the road really DON'T give a shiat what kind of car you drive. I learned that long ago when I used to think I was cool in my fancy car. If you are buying cars to impress others, it's going to get old real quick.

That also depends on where you live. I'm sure in California people are used to seeing Ferraris. In Ohio, nobody has ever seen a Ferrari in their entire life so it's exciting for everybody :)

A question for chuckd and MVP

Is the F40 that was sold by Big red to a local Norman guy still in Norman? I always wonder where that car is because it was the first Ferrari I ever saw in person. I would drive once or twice a week from Edmond just to stand in the showroom and look at it for hours.
