Why and How to clean your fuel injectors

Just finished replacing all eight of the steel injectors with the newer Bosch brass injectors. Re set the mixture and what a difference! Has a bit more punch and runs a lot smoother thru the whole range. One of the best things I have done so far ))))

If any of you 2V owners have not done this...do it. It's the best money you will spend, trust me.

 

Did you replace the O rings also? (I can't remember if the 2Vs have 0, 1, or 2 O rings) How tough was it to do without the above mentioned tools?

Called and had them cross reference the injectors. SKU # W0133-1625313. $22.95 each w/free shipping.They do not have the right seals...you need to source them elsewhere [I got mine from a very nice Fchatter]. And besides...they are different from 2V - QV. The injectors should be the same.

The Magic Sticky lists injector Bosch 0-437-502-047 as 1980-1985.

Does anyone have the cross reference for the Bosch part number for the (new brass) injectors for the 328?
Do they take the green o-ring, the fatter carrier seal, or both?

 

The above part number got me the BRASS Bosch injectors, which are the correct ones you want.

Regarding the seals/gaskets, UM....it depends....I have an 84, so I hedged my bets and bought 10 green donut seals (1978-1979 VW Rabbit Injector seals, available from your nearest VW Parts counter), black donuts (RockAuto.com has these, come two to a box) and the black mushroom seals that go under the threaded races from the air intakes (Dennis McCann). Everyone who opines what seals are needed has a different car, each model is different, etc.

 

Which is in the "1980-1985" range specified.

But I have an '88 (328). Does anyone know if the 328 uses the same injectors?

 

Okay, thanks to Ricambi's online parts catalogs, here's what my research turned up:

The injectors (Ferrari part 113975) were used on 308i through 328s, except the CH88 328 (129036).

The 308s and early QVs used bushing 114660 with grommet 114661. On the QV diagram, the grommet is listed "On exhaust, use 113570".

The exploded view on the QV and all 328s use bushing 113309 with sealing ring 113570 (upper) and 101031 (lower).

The 328s and CH edition QVs also use seeger ring 103326 (aka circlip).

So it looks like the bushings and rings changed in the middle of the QVs, but the injectors are the same from 308i through 328s (except the swiss '88 model).

 

Is there any 'benefit' between the brass & steel injectors?.. I had one Ferrari mechanic tell me that I would want to keep the steel ones/ any comments?

 

The steel injectors can rust. As a material, brass is a 'bit' softer metal. This is only an issue if your injector seat races' threads are greatly corroded and you need high-torque to re-install your injectors. For some folks, they will just thread-in, and thread-out. Others require power tools....

 

Got my car back from the major this weekend. It ran good before but definitely better now. My mechanic told me he pulls the injectors and sends them down the street to a Bosch facility. The injector facility's charge was pretty reasonable. Definitely worth doing during a major.

 

I've been doing some looking online, and I'm finding the injectors at prices from $19.99 ea to $156.00 each.

Can I presume that the $20 injectors are refurbs?

I have to ask: Your profile says "Barcelona Spain", and you bought Bosch injectors from the US?
With import customs both ways? Wouldn't buying from Bosch in Germany be duty-free in the EU?

You couldn't get them that cheap inside the EU? Wouldn't that by itself indicate prices "too good to be true"? (For "new"?)

The next closest price I found, in a quick search, was $38.75 minus $10.00 core credit for refurbished injectors.
(You send the old "cores" back for the ten dollar credit. They refurbish them and sell them to other buyers.)

 

Nope - pay no more than $25 new-in-box for Bosch Brass. that $156.00 price is pure crack-head gouging.

Other sites show the Bosch 0437502047 at about $50 each. Why is this less than half price?

 

As far as I can tell, the same injectors were used from '81 to '89 on all the CIS V8s (and possibly the V12 TRs, although I haven't checked), with the exception of the '88 Swiss model 328. But the mounting bushings and seals changed during the QV years.

That's what I've been trying to figure out.

I've found a number of low cost ($22.95) listings for Bosch "W0133-1625313" listed for (e.g.) '84-'93 190E(6c2.6) or '77-'81 280E. The 0-437-502-047 parts is listed as a replacement for Mercedes 000-078-40-23 and 000-078-56-23.

What's odd is that when I look up the Bosch part number on www.boschautoparts.com/Resources/VehiclePartFinder/ (it's not listed for Ferrari, but is for Merc 280E), and then click the "find vendor" for that part, it references me to AutoZone, which then lists a G/P Sorensen 800-1431N for 33.99 (order only) -- but with a note that the OEM # is 0437502047.

I'm starting to wonder how many Bosch injectors are actually made by Bosch.

On the other hand, if cheap is above all, there's a listing on the Allword Automotive bid site (looks like an ebay type thing for auto parts), where member 6581 (from germany) (no further id) lists 0437502047 "injector nozzle" for $10.90 ea. (Do you feel lucky? )

The remanufactured injectors run about $30-40, sometimes with a $10 discount for the returned "cores".

But it looks like there's a bunch of Bosch (or Bosch clone) injectors in the $20-$30 range around as replacements for the Mercedes part numbers (which seem to have been used on quite a few CIS models).

A google search on the Bosch part number doesn't get all that many hits, but searching for "fuel injector 280E" gets tons of entries, but they tend to list the "W0133-1625313" "Bosch" part number instead of 0 437 502 047.

The parts listing and pricing is way more complicated than the injectors, themselves.
(They are, after all, just a spray nozzle with a spring valve, for CIS.)

 

Yes, that same injector is used on TR, 400i, and 412 too -- and, if I had a '88 CH 328, and couldn't get that oddball PN injector, I'd substitute the same one -- what were they thinking?

I only made 5 because I don't know how popular it's going to be, but I can run off another 5 to 10 in a couple of weeks.

 

Finished changing out my injectors (http://www.autohausaz.com/search/product.aspx?sid=ftfqfs45oc5cgr55h40ongyw&partnumber=0437502047)in my GTSi. Did not try to save the old steel ones as the rust and pitting was just toooooooooo much.

Put in new NGK plugs per another post and gapped at .025 for starters as suggested. Wow!!! Got a new car back!!!!!!!

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Now I just gotta fix everything else ..................................

 

Good move, dont bother cleaning them when they only cost $19.95 each for new brass ones. Cleaning them never makes them squirt like new anyway so thats a waste of time.
