What people tend to forget is the important role the 348 has in the development of the V8 engined series.
With the 348, Ferrari introduced the transverse gearbox and the longitudinal engine in a production car, which is still present in todays lineup.
Even though the leap up in performance wasn't as big as from 308 to 328 or from 348 to F355 the leap in change of technology was a major one.

    If there hasn't been a 348, no F355, no 360 etc..

Actually, the Mondial Twasfirst to feature the transverse motor layout, but you are right about the method of construction being completely different, and the 355 is basically the same. However, the 360/430 construction is completely different.

Wasn't the 288 was the originator of that design? Am I mistaken?

I don't understand it either (why they are so inexpensive), except if you have problems (in this town), nobody can fix one, and nobody wants to trailer one 220 miles to the Ferrari dealer.

There are no shortages of Corvettes or Vipers in this town, Vipers partly because the largest Viper dealer in the nation is 25 miles north of me. Vettes don't turn heads anymore, I'm not far away from having a 348, but I have to have X dollars in reserve for it when it needs it. I'm not about to buy it and have it sit for months if/when it needs service.

I cannot stress enough, how much I love to drive this car.
But, I guess the key is to get a well sorted one without the problems that everyone here always talks about.

I know problems with cars in general could be a pain in the butt.

But car problems with a Ferrari are more than just a pain in the butt $$$ ;)

    I too love 348s!

Aside from the rear, which can be changed, I also believe that they're more beautiful than an F355; and that says A LOT!

But people buy NSXs for other reasons. Look at me, I bought mine instead of a F355 because its my daily driver. Ive filled it full of go fast parts and its now a 430hp (dynod at 360whp) monster that runs with F360CSs on the track but has the reliability of an Accord.

As much as I love Ferraris, and I ADORE Ferraris, chances are Id be fed up with a daily driven F355 by now. Ive got another car, but my wife needs that during the day. If my Fcar wasnt working for any reason, or it was sitting waiting for a part for any reason, Id be on the bus.

    Thats who buys NSXs.

Its a matter of supply and demand. At this point in time there are more sellers than buyers.......and the fact that the press wasn't the kindest to the 348 over the years. I think in the long term as the cars get cheaper, they will be bought by people that can't afford to take care of them. As a result a great number of cars will be lost, and as a result there will be fewer really good cars. As the virtues of the 348 are really discovered, more people will want them, and as a result there will be more buyers than sellers.......and the price will rise.

....i got a 348 and had a time when i was considering going to a 355...BUT i couldnt justify the xtra cash......

Listen up lads a Ferrari is a Ferrari whatever model...unless you got a Toyota Rep 355 (which is technically more reliable and better built ROFL!)

    I own a Ferrari nuff said. :D

Let's hope this plays out. For those of us that know the good qualities of the 348 we see them as undervalued. for the majority of people in the Ferrari fan club, the 348 knowledge comes from press write ups and myth. The reputation will slowly turn, I agree.

You are doing the right thing for you. You have analyzed where you are at, and you simply can't afford, or are in a position to buy a Ferrari. If you can't handle things that come up, then you shouldn't buy a Ferrari. If you don't have enough vehicles to have spares (even though I have daily driven various Ferrari's for years), then you shouldn't have a Ferrari.

There is a real good chance that all the money that you put into the Honda....that you could have had your Ferrari....and a spare car. And all that money that is poured into mods is never recovered....and in the end you still have a Honda....a great car......but it isn't what you really wanted, is it?

Do you have any more close up pics of the centre console near the ash tray containing the crossed flags badge and cavallino badge?

And can someone explain the 348tb badge imprinted into the radio cover lid - my 348 (Australia - 1993 RHD model) is plain without the badge. What 348's was the badge fitted to?

    My Opinnion

Yes, the newer Ferraris are more refined, and are faster, this is a fact. But do they look better?

My opinnion, no way, a 355, or 360 does not look as good.

    Is it dated looking?

Only to someone owning a later model. Not to anyone else. I'm just stating a fact.

I just got my 348ts, and to say the least, it needs some TLC. I intend to restore mine to show room condition.

In the last 6 months, before buying mine, I looked at almost 10 different 348's. Nine of them were total & complete piles of junk. It literally would have taken 25 to 50K to make them serviceable. Let alone restore them. Most of them were rebult totals, or seriously abused cars. Yes these types of abused cars will always be cheep. Most people that do any research at all wouldn't touch one.

I have riden in an F50, I could blind fold most people and challange them to tell me which one there in, most people would fail. It would have to be a TB though.

If your worried the price will go down, it might just a little, but not for long. Take care of your car, and hold on for mr. toads wild ride. I give it one decade,(at the most), and these cars, if well preserved will be in excess of 100K and climbing.

It will never be the best or fastes Ferrari, just one of the best looking. By the way Fine Berlinitta boxers can be had right now for under 80K. I mean just like brand new. Acording to many they will never go up in value either, just think about it. a Berlinitta boxer?

I can also remember, not so long ago, that Datona Convertable woud be lucky to bring 50K, after all who would want a front engine Ferrari.

In close I just say, we will see. Bests Indy

Yes, and another reason I bought it.

About prices, most 348's are in poor condition and correctly reflect this in their price. There are fewer and fewer mint examples as each year passes.

Personally, I love the Testarossa look and that was the primary reason I bought mine. The Testa itself is just too heavy and lumbering for my taste unfortunately.

Sadly though, those not in the know (the vast majority) are clueless about the 348 and look down on it.

They are 355 wheels with 15mm front/25mm rear spacers and the car has been lowered as much as possible at the rear.

It's amazing as much as everyone bashes the 348, and the prices seem a little depressed there are not more around. I was at a FCA Ferrari show in Chicago 2 weeks ago with 90+ cars. Only 2 348's. Mine and a spider with 72,000 miles on it and owned by Exotic Car Share (a rental). Where are all these massed produced, under engineered, unreliable, poor handling 348's being kept?

It is true. I have not been to a show where there were more than 2 348. Even Cavallino this year had 2, one red (supposedlt the first one imported), one yellow (Bachman's).
