If anyone would like a private tour of the Fox collection, pm me and I'll see what I can do.
and you keep "finding" cars for me which gets me into trouble with the missus I can see the numbers 3 5 5 in my future
No good for Moretti - 1. It doesn't have a roll bar 2. It stops at every 2nd corner 3. It's not resale red 4. His family is not large enough to fill it
you saying I'm fat ?? just to get this thread back on track : why do old cars have such a high resale compared to OS ? 355s can be had for $60K usd ($80Kaud) any day of the week and 328s go for $30-40K usd ($40-60k aud) and even in the UK where a lot of RHD cars are they are closer to the US prices than here. All the taxes are paid, duty gone, lct no, so where's the skim coming from ? I just want to pay the same money proportionately as the US/UK guys, or is there still the fascist govt sticker price hangover to contend with ?
Well surely it's got a lot to do with the starting price for a new one, and then it works back, doesn't it? Also, ALL cars here are expensive...if you could buy and HSV commodore or a 355 for $60k , for example, I think there'd be rather a high demand for 355s. Obviously a 355 would be more expensive, as more people would like them, but there aren't as many around. So just good old supply and demand.
well yeah, but I keep trying to relate it to the US/UK market and what you're saying is that an HSV is overpriced to the hilt as it would only be about $30k in the US for the same car (just checked it out and Pontiac GTO is..good guess). So if the HSV is $30K and a used 355 is worth $60K then a fair price for a 355 here in Oz would be $120-130K but most of them are around the $180-200K mark. I have no problem with the car being say $150K but there is something wrong when it blows out to $200K no matter whether you look at it from supply/demand, exclusivity, whatever. Sure if you've got one it is great for resale but I find it hard to see the justification for it holding such a high price compared to the US. Bugger it, if things go right I won't care either way
and the yanks still think the car is way overpriced, for what they call a 2-door cavalier. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39969
Love your work Ash - that's the best laugh I've had in ages! Moretti - will see you at Tambourine (assuming you make it) and will talk about Melb then. Melb dwellers - anyone going to Auto Italia?
well I'll be in the 528 and that generally gets to all these functions without any dramas That was a good photoshop ASh...you bastard
So can I, trust me on this one- you REALLY want a 355. The most suitable 355 for your needs is a 355 Challenge.........
As much as it pains me to agree with Aircon, he is quite correct. You are now looking at $500k for an optioned up F430 including OTR costs. The hairdresser version (aka spider) will be north of that. The best second hand buying in terms of value for money IMHO is the 550. That is SO much car for the money.
as long as you don't mind going slow around corners with the front wheels pointing in a much sharper angle than the car is turning! They are plenty fast in a straight line, though.
err Peter, 550 don't understeer (if that's what you meant) much if at all, and a subtle tweak of front alignment makes them superb. The only weakness on track/fast road is brakes. And 90% of that can be fixed with better pads, fluid and hoses.
I guess you can tweak anything to do anything...but as they come without any mods, they understeer a lot and feel like they're never going to stop. Syd also says his understeers. Certainly the one time I've driven one at PI it understeered. It was totally stock, though.
Yeah, well I guess there is a hundred possible reasons for the physics of it, and then two different drivers may say two completely opposite things too. When Allan drove Ted's 550 at PI he said it was great. Did a 1.51 with passenger on his first and only flying lap, and Bowe and Stokell also say Ted's car is great. It's done loads of track miles, and is stock apart from wheel alignment and air filters. Then theres the Black 550 of stephen s. Hasn't been on track yet, but now has different springs all round, pads and hoses all round, spacers f+r, alignment, Michelin tyres(not sure about these yet), rear anti roll bar, tubi rear silencers and soon to have a centre "X" pipe. Feels awesome on the road, will soon see track action.
OTOH...when i say it understeers, that's compared to a mid or rear engined car. It's all relative, I suppose. and 1.51???? yeah right. If he did, then he'd do a 1.45 in my car...which still makes the 550 slow, even with all that power!
Whats OTOH? yes, a 1.51 on his only flying timed lap on Corsas. He said theres much more in it if he had a few more laps too. And if he can do 1.36.3 in a 360C on slicks, I don't see why a well set up 355C wouldn't go very low 40's on slicks or 43 ish on R specs.
OnTheOtherHand = otoh btw I think the same car will have different characteristics depending on who is driving, what tyres are on it, how the alignment is set up, tyre pressures. my gt4 started out as a huge pig on the track and ended up a small pig on the track and a very mild pig on the road after much work and input from many people who I must thank for their help.
I do a mid 1.40 on my motorbike at the island. From experience it is a track where HP can easily make up for a lack of corner speed, with critical areas being the run out of southern loop, Siberia and turn 12. I would be really surprised if a well steered 550, setup properly was not as quick as a 355. Somewhere like Winton, on the other hand, would be no contest.
I agree...if the 550's going to be fast anywhere, PI is the place. I did 2.13 on MY motor bike...pretty handy, hey?
I'll have to show you the RIGHT way around the track. I've got a TZ250 GP bike, a 999 race bike and a 999 street bike, take your pick.
