I called on a car today that I saw on Cars.Com. It was a 355 with 5k miles. I asked if the 30k was done and he replied " Why would I need a 30k service when the car has 5k miles" I told him you need to service the car every 30k miles or 5 years. He said that's total bull**** and wanted to know where I got my information. I told him from the dealer and from F-chat. Hesaid the dealers are total crooks and the guys on F-chat don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. He goes on to tell me that he has owned 5 Ferraris and has never changed the belts. He said he does only changes himself every 3 months and that is it. Have you guys ever run into an owner like this? If you have I'd like to hear about it.

I know it's wrong to tell people what the can or cannot do with their money, but there are some people who just shouldn't be allowed to own these cars. I guess you can be an ******* if you wan't, but at least take care of the car the way it's supposed to be taken care of.

I believe there are a few who buy Ferrari's thinking they know everything and attempt to present themselves as experts.

In reality we all know just how "expert" they are.

It's best to move away from one as ignorant and arrogant as the one you mentioned, because he will never believe what anyone says nor do what anyone knowledgeable would suggest.

From my experience with the wealth of information put forth by the wizards on FChat, I would place my bets here rather on the jerk you dealt with, and I would further by saying there are no Ferrari owners I have met to date that would fall within the realm of stupidity that this person has demostrated.

You should post the link so we can all irritate him!

Oh, and BTW, as ferrari355fi stated, I do presume that was a "no" as to the purchase!

    Just kidding.

Well, I'd venture a guess that the car is due for a major.

You'd probably have a better time of it checking FerrariAds here or contacting a reputable dealer. Life's too short, etc.

The arrogant pricks are normally not enthusiasts. They drive a Ferrari because of the statement it makes socially.

Another way to look at a situation like this is that the car SHOULD be bought by "one of us" in order to get it into good hands!!

And what’s more important anyway: the owner or the car? It's about the car! I admit that it's better to buy a car from someone who's cool and simpatico, but at the end of the day, as long as it's a grea, checked-out t car at a fair price, the owner is irrelevant – buy the car!!!

Face it, arguably half the owners of "modern era" Ferraris are looking more for a status symbol than a sports car; the ****** factor is inescapable. Look past it and you might find yourself a great car.

Judging by the huge number of pristine plastic-wrapped garage queens hooked up to trickle chargers, I think you're underestimating (or just being kind) :)

I know what you meam. I feel like I met his older bader brother with the car I looked at last week. He said the same thing about the belts. He wouldnt drive the thing for me(I didnt want to drive it, I just want to see it work). Then I said Id buy the car if it pasted an inspection. He said there is no way he was wasting his time. The is car perfect! Then I convinced him to get one done. His answer was. I dont have time to do it, but my friend(our translator) will take it there for me and I have to pay him for his time, 1000euro.

But the sad thing is, its the best condition 348 I have seen! So Im going through with it.

When I buy a car whether new or pre-owned I have to like the person I'm dealing with. Otherwise I feel uncomfortable and the whole experience isn't fun.
I know everyone is different but this is how I am.

Precisely. The owner doesn't deserve it. As was said in sudz' other thread: Ferrari [and any other exotic for thatm atter] is an emotional car, not a logical one. You should buy a ferrari because you LIVE and LOVE it. You dont buy it to be just another arrogant ****** with a ferrari.

I took my POS parts car 308 out the other day and tromped the hell out of it. Took my 9 year old deaughter with for her first really decent ride and found an open road and took it up over 100 per. Hotter than blue blazes outside, about 100 degrees. No AC either, but it was bearable. Going through town she made the comment that everyone is looking at us. I said yeah, not many people ever see one of these cars. Told her to just not stare at anyone and just smile and have fun. Isnt fun what owning something like this is all about?

Sudz made a very good point about liking the person selling the car. If they come off hard a$$ed about dealing with you, why bother dealing with them? $100 bill says its got a lot more than 5K miles on it too, like maybe put a 3 or a 4 in front of the 5. And if the guy didnt care enough to even maintain it, you can probably just imagine how he beat the living daylights out of the poor thing. I would rather be BSed by someone that at least can lie with a smile, than have some AH feeding me a line full of it.

I think you should post the guys name and address here, being its a public sale ad, so no one from here will go look at it. I cant imagine to many Ferrari owners who are real enthusiasts not watching Fchat.

Sorry to hear about that, he'd probably been asked that question by everyone who's inquired about the car and was feeling the heat about the car not being serviced. Sounds like a nice car, just be careful. Fortunately for me the previous owner was a great help and really went out of his way to help make it happen, he didn't even balk for a second on having a PPI done. Thanks Russ!!! I wish everyone else could be so lucky. Good luck and keep the faith!

    Cheers!

Ferrari owners are a microcosm of affluent people. I have known people that have significant (read that in millions) resources/income but are the nicest folks you could ever ask to meet. I have also known some (usually 'new' money, or on the cusp of being affluent) that think the world revolves around them. Money (or the car you drive) does not define you as a person. An ****** with a Ferrari is still an ******

This seller is not the only one who shares the opinion that the Ferrari service recommended is bull. I have read other guys on this forum with a similiar opinion. I have always got my services per the recommendations. He may sell to a guy who is not familiar with the engine out service. I have to admit I too wonder if it is totally necessary.
There are plenty of A holes in this world. Most of them don't own an F car.
