I know the seats in the Spider move electronically, but...

Why did that necessitate a different seat? I think the seats in my 355 berlinetta are the most comfortable Ferrari seats I've ever sat in... complete with lumbar support, side bolster adjustment, and adjustable thigh support. I find the Spider seats to be not nearly as useful.

Why couldn't the regular 355 seat be used in the Spider?

Spider has the seat belt mechanism built into the seat.

Making them the IDEAL swap into a 348 to eliminate the stupid mouse belts!
They're not quite as comfy as GTB/GTS seats... but I LOVE EM!! :D :D

The seats are different due to the spider top mechanism needing space to pass by the seats, (the arms from the top would collect the head rests if they were any wider) I have owned both a GTB and a Spider and the seats are the same comfort level on long trips, the GTB seats look better though IMO :)

That is true....BUT, the spyder seat sub-frames are completely different...the reason for this?? Because the seat acts as the sole anchoring for the seat belts...they do not rely on any chassis attachment points. Only the HEAVY(duty) seat sub-frame is attached to the chassis....if the seat sub-frame(especially the upright back) collapses in an accident you are in BIG trouble. That is the reason the Spiders do not have adjustable thigh supports.

I would add that if you are in an accident that has enough force to damage the seat frame you are in big trouble anyway.

I was not aware of the difference in the sub frames but now you mention it it makes sense. Thank you.
