From the Ferrari Market Letter of 1.12.08 Asking Price Index (for real sale prices you can deduct 5-10K) 365BB $125K 512BB $105K 512BBi $134K 85-87 TR $70K 88-91 TR $65K F512M $106K
My major was $12k and that included four new tires. Why so much some may ask and thats because the previous owner didn't do anything on it and I had to.
Ferrari Market letter is wayyyyyy offffff on the $106K for a F512M. I would love to know where you could find one at that price.
FML has a lag time to counteract abberations. They only have one F512M listed now, asking $190K. In Europe there's a nice yellow one for $137K.
+1 Interestesting thread. Odd how most people have differing views, but, I tend to agree w/ every one of them! The car is just that way. Having said all of that............I'd love to have one! 12cyl baby!! Prices will increase, imo.
Why is future value always such a hot topic on Fchat? It really seems like the majority of 308, 328, and TR buyers who post are overly concerned with what their cars will be worth 10-20 years from now. I'm curious to a degree myself, but I just wonder why this seems to come up again and again and again.....
For many, including myself, the car has to be justified as a "investment". Most will only be driven a few miles a year so they don't classify as transportation. The expense is usually a stretch for many. As such we would like to get all or most of the money back down the road. A properly chosen Ferrari can do that and you can enjoy ownership along the way. One of the reasons I have a Ferrari is because of fiscal responsibility before I got it. Besides, its fun.
I agree totally with "Da Rock" Where else can you buy a 12 cyl Ferrari for mid $50k..or less if it needs a service. These cars originaaly sold for $155k and some inflated to $300k when they first came out. They were so Hot that people were paying double the factory price! Anybody remember that? Arnold Schwarzinager was one of them!
What an absolute shame that a Ferrari, a car, is classified as non-transportation.............I would understand if it was a vehicle with one wheel & tire and required one to apply pressure to both pedals in order to move it and also keep your balance............Yes then it would be an item (not transportation) used primarily by clowns at the circus or the occasional anarchist on campus. Enzo IS spinning in his grave knowing that "most", as stated above, stash them, stare at them, incidentally open the garage door up so passer-bys might see and/or so the new date will be impressed that the BMW or Audi is not all the perspective fling has to offer, and only drive them a "few miles a year".....................I invest in real estate and business opportunities.................I drive Ferraris, as they were meant to be Driven, not held as trophies and prospective equity.............. It's talk such as this that would probably lead to my being escorted out of the Watkins Glen get togethers by security for not pledging allegiance to this "fun".....................Cheap beer and poor lineage promotes this reaction with us trailer trash..................LOL! Leno and Lauren and Hilfiger and Mason drive thier cars........... Kerry
Amen. Why save it all for the next owner? What if you attain your dream, buy an F car, you drive it a handful of miles per year, then something happens where you can no longer drive? IMO life is too uncertain. Buy it, DRIVE it, enjoy it. There are plenty of other things that can be bought as true investments. Buying any car as an investment is dumb, unless you're buying the rarest of the rare. If it's a stretch, get something else. Right now the TR is a screaming bargain for a V12 Italian ride. Get one and use it like it was meant to be used.
My CPA would tell me that this was a bad investment for the return it will give. Well, he drives a truck and I drive either the Ferrari or the Aston Martin. These are big boy toys. I drive my cars and what mileage I run up on them, oh well I could care less. I don't assign a dollar figure to it since it's for my enjoyment only. I think when you see it as a lump of money you quit enjoying it. If I sell it, I would do so only to get another one (even with a 7 car garage I have no space). I wear my expensive watches and they don't live on a winder. I have always loved working on cars, but only the ones that hold some importance. To me walking through a design by working on it is great. Also, all cars are dated, it just depends on what era their from. John
As soon as I make as much money as Leno , Lauren , Hilfiger , Mason , and aparently you , I'll use them in figure 8 racing. Happy now ?
I wear $14.99 Walmart Wrangler jeans (when on sale), free tour t-shirts, travel 250 days a year on business, don't own a watch, a chevy pickup is my DD, the youngest of my 6 sons just started college and I make less than $100K a year.............Carguy knows my story..............I just bought my dream car (finally) and I drive the sh*t out of it...............and yes I am happy,...again, as always.....................Kerry
In your previous post you gave the impression that you used a Ferrari as a daily driver. Now you say travel 250 days a year, thats in the F car, right ?
No I travel 250 days a year in a 45' Prevost...................I drive the TR everyday that it is not snowing and I am home..............the truck otherwise.............All I'm saying is that I drive my TR every chance I get and if it be 100 days a year or 50, and hopefully 300 days when I retire................the bottom line is I drive it, and I just feel that all that have the joy of owning such a great machine should drive it.............not store it. I'm not looking for a fight, just yellin' that don't store it.................use it! Kerry PS By the way, by your username you sound like you may be a "squint"...........I am a once upon a time, FOH sound guy.............If indeed that is the case..............we will never reach a medium/agreeable point in this debate it's just not in "our" nature.......................Peace?
Ahh...just drive the damn cars and enjoy them. We sound like bunch of screaming girls here. LOL! Testarossas and 512TR's rock no matter what!
Great...................a "squint" is slang for a "lighting operator" or in lay persons lingo.........the person who runs lights for concerts, plays, entertainment events, etc. Peace iN................Kerry
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6pu-le5nEs&NR=1 Crocket in the white TR, makes me long for the 80s and my restless misspent youth!
Dear Ferraristi, Wow, what a thread ! From Kerry's struggle with class warfare to jratcliff's " It's just a freaken car " I read this thread on Fri. nite and it's been on my mind ever since. This thread would make even Me ponder my love for the Testarossa. Depressed, I put in an emergency episode of Miami Vice ( season 3+) and now I'm full of energy to fight back ! As many of you know, I'm a dyed-in-the-wool TR guy (91 Testarossa US Version ) and will always defend it ! For me, a Testarossa is the only Ferrari that "does it" for me. If I sold my TR, I would buy another Lamborghini. No other Ferrari is as extravagant and over the top in it's styling. As other have said, all the other cars look like waterballons. Yes, I know the styling is dated. It was the hight of automotive fashion and an icon of an era. It will always represent the "greed is good " 80's . Why should it be updated. It represents it's time in history. Dispite what others say about the styling, it's a striking car and stands out with great presence. I was out running errands all weekend and everytime I was walking back to the TR ( with this thread in mind ) and looking over at all the mercedes & bmw crap around me, I kept thinking....wow what a car ! You would think I would be board with it by now. Well, I also drive a Lamborghini VT roadster. At first, the TR looked so tame I didn't want to drive it. I was actually contemplating selling it and buying another Lamborghini. ( remember, no other Ferrari will do ) . After some time, it called me back. Like a good well worn-in leather jacket, it felt great slipping it on again. That great flat 12 just screaming behind me all the way down the road. Yes, my TR feels great.....just like my VT roadster. ( Ferraris scream, Lamborghinis grunt ) Possible myths: They made way too many of them. I wonder about that. The Testarossa was the first of the modern era larger production Ferraris. At 7000 made, this could seem large, but what of the 360 modena....16,000 copies. If the TR values are hurt by this, than all Fcars after will suffer the same fate. I remember in Cavalino a couple years back a 360 modena spyder was valued at $315,000 but now, I've seen them selling for about $120K. I would agree that the boxer is probably the last of the pure hand made low production Ferraris...hence their higher value ( almost as much as a Lambo) LOL The maintaince cost is too high. Please show me where the maintaince costs on any other 12 cyl Ferrari is cheaper? It's constantly mentioned that the cost of maintaince is too high relative to the value of the car. Well, own any 12 cyl Fcar for about 10-12 years. Do you really want to add up what you've spent on it? I really believe the issue lies here. Since the TR has come down in price, it has entered a lesser income level. This level is the same as a new porsche /bmw /mercedes. Relative maintaince costs for those cars seem very low compared to a Testarossa. Of course then the TR would seem extremely high. My Lamborghini costs about the same to maintain, more or less. No one on the Lambo Forums seems to mention (complain) about the high maintence costs. Since the roadsters are a 200k + vehicle (300k new), it's just in a different income level. I would gather the same for the boxer crowd. I never hear them complain about maintaince costs ( value and income level)...yet the same to maintain as a TR. The diff failure. Ok, Testarob, I feel your pain. I know your story and how much you paid. But....how common is this issue? All cars have something. 355's and the broken valves, cracked headers. 348 heavy wear on the single kevlar timing belt. Even my roadster has a cracked header. I'm in for $10,000 on that one....ouch ! I drive my TR with every shift at redline....when it's good and toasty. I match the revs on the downshifts and no problems. I don't baby the car....but I don't abuse it either. These cars are wonderful Ferraris and are great daily drivers. Use it everyday....I do. Shamile Freeze...Miami Vice !
