Agreed.....and couldn't he have picked a better user name than one from a mediocre Cage movie?

Diablo, murcielago, aventador all look like progressive countach updates. Hard angled wedges with scissor doors, air intakes behind the c pillar etc.

A Ferrari 458 looks nothing like a 348, which looks nothing like a dino.

An f12 barely resembles a 599,which looks nothing like a 550 which looks nothing like a Testarossa, which looks nothing like a BB,which looks nothing like a Daytona.

A c7 vette barely resembles a c6 which barely resembles a c5 etc. You can't tell a c7 is even related to a c5. The only other car that is that tied to the past is the 911, and at least Porsches other cars are fairly varied.

Point is, they used to progress car design in leaps, 350/400gt to miura to countach were all radical changes that pushed boundaries, and don't forget the espada, jarama and urraco before the countach, all radically different (some more successful than others). Then just came the countach in '74 and variations on that same theme for 40 years.

OK scissors doors and air intakes. I get it a Ferrari fan. Nuh said.

Where were the hard angles on the Diablo?

    Porches vary by comparison?

You're just having us on right?

I like them all, Maserati, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Alfa, Lancia and others.
None have been quite as fortunate as Ferrari but they've given them a run for their money and produced a lot of great cars.

I just don't get the attempt at denigration?

Let me get this straight, a C6 barely resembles a C5, and an Aventador looks like an updated Countach.

    Wow. Just... Wow.

Porsche has a rear engine, mid engine, front engine and suv. They also have the 918 which has Porsche design language but doesn't look like a 911.

The diablo has almost the same shape as the countach, it's an angular wedge. They're all angular wedges in bertone fashion. I like them but they haven't moved design forward at all like the countach did and the miura before it. I'm not denigrating but lamenting the lack of adventure they once had. The countach wowed everyone, still does. And while the new cars are cool, they haven't even made an attempt at doing something new and different like that again. Maybe it was more bertone than lambo making the leaps?

Guys (and girls here), who cares. Honestly vehicles are like condoms, find the one with the best fit, the best performance, and the most overall satisfaction for yourself and your close friends around you! I think its extremely difficult to produce, and by produce I mean competitively-produce 'Super-cars' that fit all d*cks, with pun intended referencing my previous statement. Lambo has done it their way, so has Porsche, and lets not forget Ferrari. They are all extremely identifiable, noticeable and have brand/design recognition in their favour, whether you can draw current designs from previous models is irrelevant; are you enjoying your new fit?

I know. Well that's why there are s*** load of cars out there for consumers. It's never been a more fantastic market for buyers. But ... you can't please everyone.

Lamborghini is coming out with an SUV and as Dave lamented I wish they'd figure out a successor to the Espada that was something different looking - a tip of the hat to Bob! ;)

You seriously don't think an aventador looks like an updated countach? Look at the rear, same shape to the tail lights. Louvers on the rear like the engine lid on a Countach. Same bertone wedge profile. Air intakes in the c pillar. Scissor doors. Similar shaped, distinctive windshield.

Some of their concepts have tried to move the needle but they went for completely nutso instead of beautiful aggression.

I like the new asterion,I hope they make it. It doesn't look outrageous for the sake of being outrageous while still looking like a lambo.

If none of those Lamborghini models excite you.........May I suggest that you take a look at Lamborghini's other line?? I can guarantee that none of those resemble a Countach! :)

Lm002 is the exception, wish they'd do something like that again. Nuts in all the right ways.

Damn them indeed! Say, how many of them are we damning? I mean, after all, Lamborghini is a "huge" company. Why aren't they turning out tons of different types of vehicles?? Shame on them.

Let's cross our fingers the Lambo Urus doesn't see the light of day... While it doesn't have scissor doors or a super-steep windshield, thus making it less Countach-like.. It does have vents near the engine (as well as 4 wheels, a braking system, and potentially a drivetrain) making it very much like a Countach.

dcast18: I find myself agreeing with you, yet oddly compelled to poke a little fun. Maybe I can rack up my post count to the 4300's by responding to every other reply that someone makes to this thread! ;) Nahhhh...

To me, nothing would emulate the spirit of the Countach more than Lamborghini presenting something totally new, something that blows everyone's minds - because that is exactly what the Countach did when it was first released, generating a world-wide reaction that has never been matched since (from Lamborghini or any other manufacturer).

So, if Lamborghini were to produce something so completely new, something so absolutely insane, that it would take decades before people's jaws stopped dropping every time it was sighted - would that not, by definition, be the Countach all over again?

Absolutely. But perhaps not to the same extent as the Countach did. People now expect jaw dropping cars from Lamborghini - all because the Countach was so far out of this world when it was first released. In a manner of speaking, all the cars from Lamborghini since then have been the 'natural evolution' of the Countach, rather than something so utterly unexpected and undreamed of that it leaves first time viewers speechless with disbelief.

I don't see it. Beside, when driving on the road, I do not think each of those cars will ever be mistaken for the other.

Nothing will ever drop jaws like the Countach did in its time... Today there are far too many exotic cars available, people are far more immune to it. It would need to be a UFO.

Most car manufacturers are using reincarnations of old designs not a lot of original thought these days
    Fiat 500
    Mini
    Mercedes SLS
    BMW Z8
Even the names are regurgitated (bit irritating when looking for stuff on ebay).
    Etc etc
It's all big corporation and money making, they build, what they think you want, where as the old car designers built with a real passion.
The title of this thread is worded badly but i do agree they are just modern incarnations of the Countach.
None of these cars have the same impact as there predecessors!
