http://www.examiner.com/corvette-in-national/seventh-generation-corvette-the-new-stingray Interesting article about the C7.
My Dad bought an 82' non-collectors version Corvette new in May 82' (I was born 5 months before). The car was White/Red, auto (I believe the only option available in 82'???). That car was his DD in Chicago for 14 years, winters included. Only drove it to the train station and back for the most part. Car had less than 50K original miles when he sold it. I loved that car!!!
That is a great story, and your correct it came with a Turbo Hydramtic 350 Cross Fire injection that was also on the 1984 Corvette.
I think C4's have a thing of beauty to them. Especially the '91-'96 style facelift. First sports car that I really, really fell in love with. Had deposits on 2 before I finally got one ;-) 1996 Grand Sport still looks completely killer to me.
I agree. I think it would be a lot of fun to restore a C4 and add some HP. After spending so much money trying to get my 328 "right", it would be a walk in the park.
Wouldn't it be best to buy a 1993-1995 ZR-1, they made 448 per year during those model runs and they put out 405 HP, with the 94-95 having the updated seats.
That would be the smart thing to do, but I'm always looking for a challenging project. My garage is full at the moment so I wont be straining my marriage or wallet with another car for at least a little while. I could see putting together a nice C4 for my daughter as a college graduation present- minus the added HP. I've got a couple of years to go.
C4 ZR-1's - yes, but those cars do demand a premium. I always said that my C4 is the American cousin to the 308 that shares the garage. You can definitely see similarities in the look.
I used to have a teal green 93 roadster w white top & white interior Gorgeous car but the auto trans was crap
There is no question that the C4 had classic proportions. Like a fine Armani suit, it will never really go out of style. I had about 9 C4's when I worked for GM, one or two per year, all were 6 speeds and all had the Z07 suspension package, sport seats and the Bose sound and upgrade A/C. I'd get them on the product evaluation plan, drive them for 5 months as PEP car, buy them from GM at the PEP-3 price (around $20k on a 6 month baloon note from GMAC), wait 6 months (while autocrossing the heck out of them), drive over to a dealer and drop them off and pocket $1,000... Those were the days....
I used the C4 for commuting on the highway so taking into account horrible Miami traffic on 95 I went for the auto. I never took that car to the track so no need for the manual
I had 2 auto transmissions go in my 1986 C4, drove me nuts. But my 1990 C4 with the 6 Speed ZF was indestructible and a very good box.
From the info that's been floating around the Corvette Forums, the 7th generation Corvette may have a classic flare with more modern tech. Here's hoping .........
http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevy-corvette-c7-prototype-spy-shots/full/#photo-4762130/ Autoblog posted new spy pictures...Look at the rear, even the tail lights seem to match the concept sketch...Pretty obvious they have circular ones in as a dummy..
Wow, Looks like the Jalopnick sketch was dead on the overall shape. They even got the wheels on the passenger side correct. The camoflage used on the winter test car above fits the C6. Look at how it is too short to cover the bottom of the C7 from the mid door back because the rear fender is taller.
There are a few guys who participated in this discussion who are more right than I. I'm separated enough where I can't get in trouble. Although, with all my friends, I do pick and choose what I say I just happen to be at the right place at the right time sometimes I do have to chuckle at some of the guys I meet who think the C7 interior is going to be on par with the Porkers. It will be vastly improved though.
Thanks for the heads up, too bad GM could not have gotten this one out for the 60th Anniversary. As usual the halo car with the glacial time frame for changes. Hopefully it will get a DCT.
I want to say that I have no insight here... but I would not be surprised if they release 300 2013 MY C7 Corvettes.
I doubt those would be for sale, same thing happend in 1983 and one actual production car made its way to Australia of all places.
5.5 liter with DI and hopefully less weight should keep performance about where it is or result in a slight improvement; fuel efficiency will improve and hopefully the interior will be acceptable....should be a winner...
