It's not really a mirror, just a polished area. It's designed to lower friction on the side of the foot when you're pressing the gas pedal. Not all models have this, especially older models.

As stated above, it is a friction plate. It is especially helpful if one is using driving shoes as the side of the shoe is more rounded.

It is indeed a friction plate, but I use it to check the soles of my shoes for any fecal residue when I leave the stable where I keep my horse.

Maybe we need another mirror to view the passenger seat?

I think it is there to prevent wear along the side of the console.

During hard cornering you can quickly check your appearance.

My 82 Mondial has one. It was by no means a concours car when I bought it, yet the plate still had a plastic shrink wrap coating on it.

I always thought it was there to help practice proper heel-toe technique.

It's there for the Ferrari mechanics so they can see the other side of the throttle linkage clearly while working on the gas pedal assembly! :)

So you can see if you're gettin' beat on the track because there's a dead mouse behind the gas pedal? ;)

Even the bugs get a vanity mirror. :D

Not to hijack the thread, but if you wish to see a masterpiece of engineering/design work in a 308, just take the patience to look behind and underneath the gas pedal. The leverage link to the gas cable , including switch for timing advance, is truly impressive.
