Pricing around for a new clutch for an 88TR......called a Canadian dealer ......price $4600 , I said no I don't want it installed or the timing belts replaced just the price of the clutch assembly........$4600 just for the clutch.....I asked are you sure?......I just want the stock clutch , nothing performance, $4600........I started to laugh........how is this possible ??........I called a dealer in the USA that I deal with .......$1720 .......total differance $2880........how is that possible??.....I can understand a couple of hundred.......but $2880 ???.........No wonder people are afraid to buy these cars here with ridiculous parts mark up.......It pays to make a few phone calls State side , just tired of getting ripped off...................

Sorry to hear. But as you may know...this site has helped many get great deals on parts. For starters have you called our main sponsor Ricambi America? There are other independants like Dennis Mcann, T. Rutlands etc. If you post in the TR section you will be surprised. Someone will have a deal on one.

I have purchased from Mcann for the Dino and recently, a total top and bottom overhaul order for my 250 V12 from Rutlands -
both were reliable, reasonable and easy to deal with.

Don't buy anything from FoO parts wise. Always deal with dealers in the states or with godd aftermarket guys. If things go according to plan I will be a parts dealer for canada soon.

Glad to hear you found your part as for you being surprised about the price how long have you lived in Canada? We have been getting the shaft for well ever,
not only car parts but everyday consumer products including one that affects me directly the price of alcohol as I own a nightclub

There is no reason why we are paying up to 30 to 40 % more on the exact same product there has to be a breaking point at some time I mean we are still paying more for a stupid magazine it's like the dollar was in the crapper for so long that everyone has gotten use to it and no one is changing there prices accordingly

    It just Plain sucks

Welcome to NAFTA and the sinking US dollar....feel free to come on down and clean-off our stocked shelves. Seriously.

BTW, have you investigated Norwood Performance's Carbon Kevlar clutch kit? They developed it in-response to the HP/Torque of their Turbo engines - its supposed to be much more durable than your standard Borg/Beck unit, and will last forever with a stock engine.

They're cheaper than factory replacement - Nick's Forza also offers carbon Kevlar -treated clutches, but only for 308/328 cars. Norwood offers several TR Turbo upgrades, and the super-clutch package is available seperately:

    http://www.norwoodperformance.com/clutches.htm

These will take much-more abuse, under stock HP/Torque conditions, than any OEM Clutch ever could with less wear.

How exactly does NAFTA contribute to, or cause, the currency fluctuation you rerference in your post?

On an aside and not wanting to totally hijack lbanez's post......but you'll get my point how it relates. I think this is happening more than we are being told.

3 months ago I was walking thru the largest mall here in Calgary. Went into a book store to buy a 2008 calendar. Found one I liked......it was $25.95 here and $14.95 in the US.

The store owner walked up to me and asked me if I needed any help. I asked if I could the USD price (as WalMart was allowing people to do) and she said no I cannot. So I put it back on the shelf and told her that she'd be out of busines soon if they didn't push back against their suppliers.

Last week I was walking thru the mall. Their store is empty and closed. Gonna go and buy myself a Grim Reaper costume now.

I buy all my Ferrari stuff from Dan at Ricambi.......he's got first class service and he seems to always have everything in stock.

    yep.
(though to be fair, their pricing on some product lines isn't too bad as i believe they've updated some of their pricing).

They're either the Sparco distributor or authorized retailer and they're smoking bad crack when they price it. Sparco would be the only reason I'd look to buy anything there, but that's not going to happen in my lifetime.

not even sparco..their pricing is out of whack on the suits (some of the mid/low end seats are better)..but when i asked about suits, they inverted pricing on some of them in addition to being the same as US full retail. the middle suit was more expensive than the higher end suit by like 50$ :S

they sell redline for good prices, GT turbos arn't bad either...and i think tein has come down in price...but non of that stuff applies 2 ferrari owners :)
