I did a search and couldn't find anything. Does anyone know why everyone blurs it out or covers it in pics?
In France, i heard it's illegal to publish a picture containing visible, legible license plates... If i post pictures, i block out the plate because it's pretty easy to track someone down with their license plate number... Ironically, i spend a lot of time posting serial numbers and hunting for them...
Must be easier to track someone down with a license plate than a vin#. People always give out their vin.
Everyone knows people on the internet are psychos and stalkers who eat babies and key cars. Ever since AOL hit the scene, you just can't trust anyone .
no really, you can get keys cut with VIN numbers....granted you need the title but still if you have a connection... Antony
Its a scary subject, but as far as i know, its possible over here in the UK to get a duplicate log book sent to you by submitting the registration numbers/vin No's, and then by right of law, you could dispute that the car is in fact yours. Not something i'd like to contemplate happening really!!
my dads LP is in the 2004 ferrari yearbook. its a close up of it. you would think that they couldnt do that
Meh. Liscense plates are a public domain. If you're covering them on the net, why aren't you covering them when you drive around town?
...Because that is illegal, covering the plate in a picture isn't... I do it as a courtesy...Even if the owner posts pictures of their car with the plate showing, I'll still blur the plate when I post pictures of their cars. At our events we have several CEO's and CFO's and I know they don't want their plate showing in pictures.
Many reasons: *people cant find your address Mine's 1083 Vine st #215. Car's titled to "The Cannon Group" That's on my DL too. (and on the corporate records that are public record with the state.) GOOD LUCK finding where I live!!! *police cant see your tags Possibly valid concern if you're in the act of doing something stupid. *Insurance purposes See above. Otherwise, parked, the stuff's so public domain it's not even funny.
I think cause he has the lic. cover that blurs if a picture is taken for red light cameras and speed cameras Antony
Because when I'm driving around, I don't tend to voice my opinion to 1000's of people, some of which may be contentious, like I do when I post on an internet forum! There is already quite a lot of detail in most people's "profile", so posting a licence plate that "may" allow someone to track your home address is possibly a little foolish! We have all seen the "internet hard-men" but there is a slim chance that some of them are stupid enough to track you down and carry out the childish threats they've made!
The fellow chatter that snapped that picture did so. My previous profile picture had my plate visible.
Your 100% correct. It is illegal to cover your VIN. License plates in MD anyway are property of the state and must be readable. On the net I guess it is a matter of preference you can cover it up if you see fit.
On any TV show like COPS or any others they also blur out plate number. I would also blur mine here as I piss off way more people here than I do driving
I wouldn't want anyone knowing my LP number. You never know what wierdo might be here in the future. Imagine they have the same car as you and want to rob a bank in your town. They simply make up fake tags covering their own with your LP number and do the deed. Likely? no. Possible? yes.
