Why do we put up with them (Ferraris)?? , the same reason that you put up with your wife or girlfriend when they are not at their best- LOVE.
Ferraris bring out the passion in car lovers.

i think it all comes down to childhood experiences. Little girls wanted ponies while little boys wanted the standing horse. =)

Same reason we put up w Hot Chicks

The overarching idea though is that : If it has Titz or Tires its going to give you trouble

I came up w the Theory of PuzzyTax for women

Essentially you weigh how much BS you have to put up w every time you get some

This is also measured against the quality of the event, and other facts such as how is her cooking, housekeeping, shopping, etc

Same can be done w cars: How much BS do you have to put up w for every time you drive it and how much fun is it ?

I kinda agree with the Hubbster here. theyre like high maitanence woman. They cost more give you more problems, you have to worry about other guys always looking at them and trying to get with them, but then theres something thats just that much better about them to justify the time and the headaches associated with ownership. I dont own one yet but have worked at a sports car dealership specializing in ferraris for several years. i have ridden in or driven almost every fcar from the last 25 years along with various other pcars and such. even though others are faster there is a feeling i associate with ferraris that ive never felt in any other car. their sounds smells characteristics etc. i dont know how to describe it better than that.

You're not buying a car. You're not buying a motor.

    You're buying an image.

What Enzo said may be been true back in the day, times have changed.

I think most people these days buy Ferrari's for the same reason your wife buy's Gucci sunglasses and Louis Vuitton purses.

It's all about image and status symbol. If you really did not care about any of that, you would drive a 1978 Toyota Corrola.

This is true in some respects but i think there are more people with ferraris who are car people and love them for that reason over status. while this may not be as true regarding the new cars i dont think anyone is driving a 308gt4 to show off with, or to showup his neighbors. there are many cars that are flashier, youll get more attention with a yellow H2 than you will a black 328.

I am on my second Ferrari and the cars going on to 4 years have been perfect. Three years on a 360 and 1 year on my F430 so far. The cars are still worth alot at trade in. They drive with knife edge precision. I love the car.

To be honest I do not even understand the question. Buy a toaster if that makes you happy. :)

The answer to your question, to me, is quite simple: It's a Ferrari!

I like Ferrari's mainly because of visual appeal. I am always fascinated and never get tired of looking at them. Looking at my 328 makes me happy. You have to be a car guy to understand.

Bragging rights, or image? To some maybe, but not for me. Nowadays, owning a 328 doesn't give you bragging rights. My daily driver is an old ('91) Lancruiser :).

Ditto on amslb 182's and spiderseeker.

I think that they are closer to performance machines (with a dollup of good looks and good sound) than their competition. Porsche could make cars closer to the F-car but I'll bet their main customer base would complain. Too difficult, too much maintenance, too impractical. What most customers say that they want and what they really want often differs. Of what I want, the Ferrari comes closest to deliver, out of mass market production cars.

There are a thousand things Ferrari could do better. And just because something is expensive does not mean it is better. I think a car with as good a driving experience could be made where a replacement ashtraty does not cost $400. I suspect that we pay for huge inefficiencies in the parts/service/design/parts supply chain aspect of this particular car; dollars that do not go to the bottem line of Ferrari or their dealers but are lost to the company and the car owners alike. It is annoying, but I think that they produce the closest product to a street car which excels in what a sports car should do.

HAHA, are you serious? If you think a Ferrari is "all about image and status symbol" then my friend you are missing the point, sure, if you like you could have a Ferrari for this purpose, but a Lambo may be more what you are looking for (ducks...) A Lambo will raze more attention when you open the door, they are brighter and look very flashy, but once again, if you buy a Lambo with the idea of it being a status symbol, you missed the point. Maybe a Rolls might suit your needs better? What I am getting at is a Ferrari is a drivers car, they are made to be driven at pace, they sound like nothing else and give the driver a feeling like no other car can, in the pecking order of the car world very few would argue that Ferrari are at the top.

Ferrari is about passion, this involves the owner, those who are not passionate about Ferrari will not own one for a long time, and those who are will remain owners for many years.

If you are asking why we put our self’s through the ups and downs of ownership, here is you fix. Take 10mins just walking around your Ferrari, take note of the detail and workmanship that has gone into the car, then take you car to your favourite road and drive for 30min, once you return home admire your car again, at this time you will be healed. Repeat as necessary.

These Ferraris are more than just car's, they are moving art, and we are all very fortunate to own them. What a great problem to have!

You have a good question Bill, but I have no exact awnser. As some of you know I bought a 2007 Z06 for a very good price.
The fastest stock car I have ever driven, I sold it and bought another Ferrari.
It is just not the same.

I cannot argue that there are a few maybe even alot of owners who buy them for 'status' purposes..... :(

speaking for myself I have always loved cars since i was four years old watching speed racer.... money was scarce and i new the value of even a penny... it would buy a 'bazooka joe' bubble gum or make the klinking sound in my old soupcan piggy bank.

My parents separated when I was six..... my dad had an accident and could not contribute.... i was working when I was 12 just to help make ends meet with the family.... Status has never been something I was familiar with........ ok I will stop with the sob story....

anyway I have always sacrificed what I wore to what i ate to buy the car that would make the hair on my neck stand on end. I always bought a bland color because I did not like being looked at. I still take drives at night through empty roads/highways so I can truly enjoy my ride......
a long story short, I love driving.... there are lots of owners who care about racking up mileage on their f-cars ......... I am not one of them.....................;)

I think there's lot of reasons but 8,500 rpm in a tunnel is the most beautiful symphony I've ever heard and stirs so many emotions. :)

    Yeah brother!!

Just been busy teaching new reps. Have a new class in town and obviously am spending time with the baby when I get home from that. But all is well.

Seeing some great responses!! Funny thing is that they are mostly different. Don't know if I expected that either. But, as we are all car guys, we probably each have our own reason for being car guys.....

    Makes sense....
