Why do you drive?

I'm curious how many other 458 owners drive for reasons other than transportation or recreation, to prevent disuse related mechanical issues. For example, I drive my 2014 458 every two weeks at a minimum, at least 30 miles, to keep the tires from developing flat spots. This has been my routine for years, with sportscars that time constraints prevent me from using routinely. Why do you drive, how often and how far - if not for transportation or recreation?

 

It's a car man, a special car. But still a piece of metal that is meant to be used so enjoy !

 

I use mine everyday and love it each time

 

The 458 is a recreational driver. The FF is for cross country runs (>800 miles) which we do often.

 

I drive because its fun.

 

To make noise

 

Because driving "Sheila" is still an event after 6 months of daily use. Heart still races, adrenaline still pumps. Highlight of my late afternoon/early evening is driving her home in light traffic.

 

My first two months of ownership I used it as a daily. That made me come to the conclusion that the car is best utilized for spirited recreational drives only. So I started taking it for out of town runs of about 400km per trip, on average once a week, some times accompanied with other cars/drivers or just on my own. As a result I have completed 20,000 kms on my 2014 Italia in 11 months of ownership and car is scheduled for its first service this week (due to miles).

It is indeed a love affair, but unlike women, one can love more than one Ferrari at the same time.

I like driving for short distances and drive long distances only when necessary. I live in two states and spend different parts of the year in each. As a result, when in the state which houses my 458, I drive it daily, to and from restuarants, and when the mood strikes, a longer freeway drive. By contrast I don't find myself driving my Porsche Turbo S (at the other house) nearly as much because it does not provide anything more than "speed". I drive it when I am willing to take a spirited drive on a road permitting it. As a matter of fact I have ordered a Corvette Z-06 and will probably sell the Porsche. Best

 

I drive mine as often as possible at least twice a week
once or twice a year for a longer vacation trip (around 2000 milles)

The attraction of Ferrari is the exhaust note and the sensation of speed, even when driving 10 mph above the speed limit. I don't get that same thrill driving a GTR even though it will smoke my Spider.

My friend hosted a birthday this past Saturday at a restaurant by the beach. The weather looked like it might sprinkle but I thought I would take my wife in the Spider as this is the atypical "supercar" gang. The valet would not let me park my car even though I flowed him a $20 spot but he did move an X3 out of the way so he could park my ride in front, next to a Bentley Speed, TDF Cali, LP570, Silverstone Cali and 911 cabriolet. I watched him backup the spider to my satisfaction lol. No real street parking in the vicinity so I didn't have that option. Little kids were screaming and taking phone pics. After a couple glasses of Caymus I didn't really mind

I posted this on another thread earlier today. I thought it made sense here as well. There are a variety of personality types. Some gain great pleasure from an occasional drive in ideal circumstances & conditions, and just admiring it for it's beauty and craftsmanship. It seems that these types of owners relish keeping their car in perfect condition. Others enjoy driving their car a lot, some as an everyday driver. While others may fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. I just put my deposit down and am awaiting a build allocation, so my ownership process is just beginning. Still, I think of what type of owner I plan on being a lot. Though it probably isn't very popular with many, I suspect I will be the type that spends more time appreciating my car in concourse condition rather than driving it a lot. I'll drive it in ideal weather, at a time when I know there isn't a lot of traffic, and on routes that I know will be totally clear of anything harmful to the car. I'm not planning on being this way because I am looking to sell the car soon. Rather, it is the way I will enjoy it most. That being said, everyone needs to gain the most pleasure out of their Ferrari as possible. It is a true privilege to be an owner and to be part of the great legacy.

I drive my Fcar for the adrenaline rush. I like to come home from work in my DD then after dinner go for a spirited for a spin in the FCar. I drive it about 5 times a week and 95% of the time I am driving for the sake of having fun by going for a drive! I have put 2000 miles on the car in the last 3 months just from going on Fcar spins. Drive the car, enjoy the car.

Coolness. Unfortunately for me after dinner and a couple Goose Press I really shouldn't be behind the wheel. Doesn't impede my skill on Call of Duty: Ghosts though😄

 

I drive her every day I can. A day without driving a 458 Spider is like a day without sunshine!

I Just cannot not drive her. 15k trouble free miles. Best car I have ever owned. Be careful: If you drive one you will want one. Really.
