    Has anyone else notice how Alonso keeps saying that Mclaren is behind or is not on par or are struggling to keep up with Ferrari to the media. Is he superstitious? Or is he just trying to make Ferrari look even more bad when they lose or struggle?

    Showing respect to the competition? Trying to motivate the team? What would you have him say, "The McLaren is going to run circles around everybody"?

    Perhaps he is simply being honest...

    Alonso is very savvy when it comes to making statements to the media. Always expect him to have an agenda. So if he downplays the McLaren performance I see these reasons:

    a) to not let the McLaren team rest on their laurels
    b) to give the Ferrari team a false sense of security
    c) help McLaren's case with the FIA in regards to any illegal aero elements ruling
