So...first part in a series of rants, why does Corporate America hate Americans So Much?

My cousin asked me if I'd watch his two little kids for a day. Very very polite kids and self managing...I have no idea how that happened. Anyway, I was out shopping for kid foods and I came across Easy Mac by Kraft Foods...little bowls of macaroni and cheese that can be nuked in a microwave and made in less than 4 minutes. I bought one. I followed the directions and made the cup. In the end, it was filled with nothing that resembled noodles and drowning in this cheesy miasma of ooze.

Who in hell would feed that to their child?

The cup itself smelled weird after a stint in the micro.

Why does corporate America hate us? They give us instant macaroni and cheese in a bowl that can be served in 4 minutes but resembles nothing. They give us product after product that through relentless synthesization, resembles nothing, offers nothing in terms of nutritive value and is nothing in terms of quality. There is a pervasive lack of quality in virtually every product that I encounter, and it disturbs me.

I don't see these little kiddos often enough, but rest assured I will not be nuking their meals, now or ever. I have fresh food, great ingredients, a sharp knife and a chopping board. I truly feel sorry for kids whose parents feed them via the rolling litany of prepared prepackaged meals. The Easy Macs. Microwave meals. McDonalds.

Anything easy and fast. Anything finger snapping quick and easy to make.

Stupid ****ing Easy Mac meal...macaroni and cheese and my lips are sticking together two hours after eating it. Nasty.

    Nasty in a bowl.

When we were kids we had good junk food.
Stuff like Spaghetti-O's and Chef-Boy-R-Dee Ravioli in a can. Yum.

Is all about profits, why is it that what is shown in the picture, never looks like what is in the can or box?

I ask myself that same question whenever I journey into a WalMart. There is this fairly new store that opened a couple years ago not far from me, new store boasted it had wider isles & bigger shopping carts. Maybe to match the girth of their average consumer.

Well, you've stumbled across a big issue. Mainstream America will tell you you're being picky, b-itchy and paranoid. But the "convenience" foods sold are big money-makers and very poor in nutrition. Ironically, making your own food is cheaper and much healthier, but the big drawback is it requires a smidgen of effort. The microwave issue is something that's going to be a much bigger problem in the near future, too. Studies are starting to show the negative effects of nuking foods, and many of the plastic containers we use leech toxins into the foods when heated.

They still make that stuff. I love Spaghetti-O's with franks. Eat it once or twice a year to relive a bit of being a kid.

First off, you would be welcome to sit with my kids any day of the week. It's nice to see people who actually take some ownership and care in what they feed the kids they are left in charge of! Hats off to you:) Anyway, marketing (for this sort of food) is based and balanced on 1: Taste (That kids will eat and has been test marketed before launching) and 2: Ease of time in the kitchen for today's busy Mom's and Dad's (Who rather be doing something else than paying attention to the importance of nutrition for their growing kids) and the variety of these foods in the grocery store is pretty sad. I do not think that Corporate America hates us, but Kraft (As an example) is simply delivering what kids will eat! If they won't do it, some other company will. What's interesting is the fact that though Krafts sales are up with this garbage, their profits are in trouble. Go figure.

Further, my wife will occasionally make REAL macaroni and cheese. The real stuff that's all brown on top and bubbly, totally sinful.

Kids prefer the box stuff. go figure.

People buy it, it makes the sellers money, it isn't illegal. I don't see the problem.

Your first three words are the problem. They wouldn't sell it if people dont buy it.

I don't think corporate America hates us. They are just providing what we would buy. You DID!

A typical customer will buy ten crappy things instead of one good one. Just look at Walmart sales! If you are looking for change, start with how you do things. Change starts at the bottom and not at the top.

    That's a lot of one-time sales.

The idea is to get a sale, then repeat business and in so doing, build product, then brand loyalty. That's what the profit model is built upon, not saving .005 cents off manufacturing a half-decent container/lid combo that, in tandem with product therein, comes out palatable. let alone looking remotely like a serving suggestion.

Yes, I bought ONE Insta Mac cup out of the 100's of millions sold over the years and years. These have been for sale for 5+ years before I bought a single cup, FOR ME TO EAT. I will never buy another cup, and I sure as hell won't feed a single molecule of it to a hungry kid.

Hungry kids need REAL food, and corporate America aren't providing it. Slodge, junk and garbage is what they offer. That's ALL they offer.

But...you may be correct...they only give us what we want. Chocolate that isn't, sweets based upon corn syrup in massive doses versus sugar. Weird petro chemicals turned into food stuffs....yes, this is what we all want for our kids.

It was a weird world when I grew up...but I feel sorry for the kids of today that have to deal with societal pressures as well as a global consortium of companies that want to turn them into young diabetics and bugling, gasping mounds of mobile lard.

Sad, sad, that we've let these companies jeopardize the health of the young; the very people we have been tasked to protect and yet glibly allow them them to become fat, waddling obese humans that run out of breath playing a round of Wii Sports.

There's too much reliance on people to do the right things, especially corporations.

I have eaten a lot of weird things. Dried squid on a stick. Elephant testicles in a light olive oil fry. Kodiak bear pectorals served medium rare. Raw squid tentacles and a side of steamed rice. Fried whale ****** with asparagus and lettuce. Spider crepe and onion. Raw, squirming roaches with a really crunchy carapace.

I've had all that and nothing weirds me out like that Cup o Mac or whatever it was.

Not to be gross, but it came out exactly the same way as it went in.

Yellow cheesy mac shyt isn't a world of wonder. Same smell, same Mac-I-Ness, same outcome = people working too hard on making things bad for us.
