I was just wondering about this after watching the European GP. Is it the tires, of the fuel load, or a combination of the two. I was thinking possibly it may be that he's running heavier a fuel load after his first stop than he does at the start of the race? He wasn't running slow enough to lose Alonso and at basically the end of his run, was flying, but doing so on bad tires. I'd just like to get some you guys opinions on it, it was noticiable at Imola also. Could Ferrari have Schumi just not showing everything he has after his first stop to throw off Renault, and allowing it to play in to Ferrari's favor for pit strategy? I find it doubtful but something that has crossed my mind.

    Perhaps there's a micro/macro-time-management theory behind it.

Lose a few seconds here, gain a lap or 2 there, due to fuel/tire savings, thereby making up for few seconds lost.

The question was actually asked during the post-race press conference I believe. And from what I remembered, MS said during his in-lap, he pushed way too hard that he almost lost it; that's why he was unable to come out in front of FA after first stop.

I guess the tv coverage didn't get that in-lap and he lost quite some time there.
