I mean I know they probably sell every car they make, but why don't they have TV ads for their cars? Do they have TV ads outside North America?

Ferrari SpA never spends a cent on commercials. I know Ferrari NA does, and have made TV commercials. The CS and the California had spots if I remember correctly.
Ferrari doesnt spend money on it, because they dont have to. They get all the attention they need from the hype of the cars, and they have partners, like Shell, who use their money on ads, where they use Ferrari's name. So they actually get paid, for others to use their name. Their brand is simply so strong, there is no need for ads.

    Don't need them.

I've been self-employed for 20 years (I'm 39) and don't have business card nor have I ever been on a job interview. If you produce a product or service that people want, they will find you.

First thing I thought of: Ferrari spending money on ads is like the Detroit lions spending money on football palyers. it just doesn't make good business sense. If there is a waiting list to sell cars why would you waste money on ads, just as the lions can lose and sell-out every season so why spend money.

I hate to put this out there after the last post but here it goes.

If you have the buzz you don't need anything else.

I don't think that Maser will ever do broadcast ads, but they're always in Motor Trend and mags of the like.

The Porsche commercials are funny. They're so out of place between the soft drink and maxipad ads that it makes the whole thing seem like a farce. Luxury items don't need advertisement. Someone with money will find what they want.

Porsche is not a "luxury item" really. A luxury item is defined not only by its cost but also by its scarcity and exclusivity. Porsches - as expensive as the top of the range cars may be - are mass-produced industrial goods. So they need to advertise to a broader public, in order to attract buyers for the 100,000+ cars that they have to produce every year to maintain their industrial economies of scale. Ferrari doesn't have this problem, its order book is always full without need for advertising, and the same is true for Lamborghini even without any racing activities.

Commercials? The only auto manufacturers that use them are the ones that sell cheap/Japanese/mass produced looking cars...................

Oh wait, you're right, now Ferrari does need a TV ad campaign! ;):):)

Ferrari did briefly have a very short TV ad in the 1980s IN THE UK. I saw it about three times and then it was gone. It was simply shots of a car - maybe a 328 - moodily lit, in a studio, with an F1 car soundtrack. The slogan was something like 'Experience the Experience' (how original !). Does anyone else remember it..?

The soap opera that is F1 gets them more media attention than any marketing campaign possibly could. When the CEO even turns up to the track armed with his latest soundbite to add to the drama and encourage yet more headlines, you sort of see just how clever it has become.

The fact that their sponsors pretty much cover their ridiculous racing budget every year means that there is little motivation to change that approach. They have one of the best marketing platforms for their brand in the world without spending a dime of their own money.
