We had a company bash the other week, invited were all the PR and marketting people, the majority of whom were aged 22 > 30ish and female. A friend decided to conduct a survey to see whether my Ferrari or his new black M3 convertible would attract the girls. We walked around and asked every single female if they HAD to choose one, which one would they take a ride home in. With only one exception they all chose the BMW. Bugger!! Is it really true that the Fcar is only appealing to young boys and old men?
Sorry but I reckon their age means they cannot see the style of a GT4 - if it had been something newer - even 348/355 - they would probably have responded differently
Unfortunately, they weren't told what ferrari it was (nor did they see it). it was a straight comparison, red Ferrari or black BMW convertible. There is irony to this, all the girls had very little on in the way of clothing, you know skirts like belts etc.. They said that the Ferrari lost out due to the problems girls have getting in and out and comfort. This is not good.
Seems that women see Ferrari's as the expensive toys of self indulgent men (as well as an indication that the owners have issues with personal interaction with the car behaving as a non confrontational surogate), which then goes on to form the basis of the view that if they were to enter into a relationship they would see the car as rival for said man's attention, moeny and free time (not good!).......if you want a car to help you pull women buy an Audi, Mercedes or BMW cabrio
That said, Footballers' wives seem to be an exception to the rule - they all have multiple Ferraris. One of my female staff, when asked this question - and I already know she doesn't like my 400 - said it was because they were all red (or yellow) (mine's blue) and ugly. My view: Who cares what such women think! If we did we'd all be nervous wrecks, trying to second guess the next thing we would do/say/think they didn't like. Even my wife agrees with that! Keepin' the Faith, Ray.
If a women was only interested because of what car you have then they aren't worth it, I never told my wife when I met her what i had and she only found out a couple of weeks later through a friend
True, BUT it would be nice to be drooled over when parking outside Tesco, by the girls that is.. I had a Black 325i and an Quatro when I got married, so maybe the theory of cars and wives is true?
IMO women will admit in public to liking subtle sexuality in men and when asked for an opinion they will lean towards the conservative, but then you watch them at a Chippendale's bash...well... I would have expected them to choose the BMW as the car to go home in, girls I know regard Ferrari's as too over the top and for men with ego problems. I suggest for a different outcome, next time, ask them which one they would prefer to have sex in! - (Spiders/GTS only of course)
I have driven my fiance in all sorts of cars, from Ferraris and Lambos to VW Golfs and Honda Civics. The one car that she always says was her favourite was a dark metallic blue Jaguar XKR Convertible with the Arden bodykit and 20 inch alloys. She feels too conspicuous in the 360 Spyder. I reckon that the Jag was every bit as conspicuous, myself! Her second favourite was a CLK Merc Convertible.
I did the same - . . . then she found out it was a skoda and I got dumped . . Women no nothing of cars anyway - now if you've got a pair of Jimmy Choos in the garage - they're impressed....
I think a lot of women think Ferrari's are brash, flash and something of a cliche. Of the cars I've owned, its always the ones you'd least suspect of being the 'favourites'. XK8 Cab and BM 323 Cab were top of the list. Personally, I buy a car for what I think of it and not how I will be percieved driving it. A Ferrari is bought for far more than its looks and its image. Jamie
The owning of a Ferrari is so stereo-typed that announcing that you are an owner is interpreted by the average person as '...look at me, I bet you are really impressed...'. To which the inevitable response will not the anticipated one of interest but the perfectly natural response of (with varying levels of concealment) 'I think you're ******' Best to keep your gob shut - methinks. However, if you dangle the keys of a White Rover 416GSi (1992 110k miles) in front of the ladies, you find yourself fighting them off with a sh**ty stick.
Don't talk to me about Jimmy Choos, my wife has more pairs of shoes than most celebrities put together, still she can't moan when I buy some new goodies for my car ;-)
Was in a tubi-ed (red) 360 with a mate in central london when we saw a truly stunning girl on the pavement. He was driving and he pulled up alongside her and with a big smile very politely said something like: "you're extremely beautiful.... blah blah....I'd like to take you out for dinner...blah blah I'll pick you up tonight" She smiled and said.. "you can pick me up tonight but not in THAT... (ref the Ferrari) He says "I've got a mini cooper" She says "much better, see you tonight" Obviously it was ALL tongue in cheek and my mate drove off and she laughed but the Ferrari didn't have the effect it may have done in the 1980s. Who knows/cares what girls think really...
Two friends of mine have Porsche GT3's. We all went to a party one day and all the chicks surrounded my CS. They said it was extremely sexy and sophisticated. I asked them what they thought of those 2 cars as I pointed to the 2 x GT3s. They told me they werent into beetles... especially yellow ones.
It is sad, but we have to face it, long gone are the days of Magnum PI, big moustaches and Ferraris - and a girl on each arm. I have heard on the grapevine that Ferrari are working on a new Dino, a cheaper mid ranged car to compete with the boxter. Maybe that will bring the girls back?
When I drive my classic car and stop at gas stations, people come and talk to me all the time. But when I'm in my Ferrari, people tend to keep distance from me.... seriously. I wouldn't want to talk to a Ferrari owner that I don't know either... they could be too proud of themself to talk to anyone. sad but true, IMO
Thats great, I would have burst out laughing, 911's are far too mundane looking now, I love the eighties flared arches and whaletails
that car has been talkeds about on here for a long time now, and some feel it will never happen, we'll have to wait and see
OK - New to chat - over here in the US of A. Just attended and worked our Annual meet. Have been a 4RE nut for years. Most women are not knowledgable of cars except for a visual or they will hang with what their friends think. I admire all exoctics, but there is something that hooked me on 4REs - the lines, the sound, history and the design that can radically change yet produce an appeal and excitement wondering if it could get any better. When you get chills when you see them - U know your hooked.
I find just the opposite here in the States, average women may be intimidated and view Ferrari guys in the negative but the hot ones love both my Ferraris especially my 512BB, I have been asked point blank by the hottest girls for a ride.
I think it's the year of the car, you're trying to compare a 70's model Ferrari to a modern BMW. Put a 360 next to an M3 and Ferrari will attract more women. Nothing personal, just what I think is the reasoning behind it.
