I hear complaints all the time about how big of a pain it is to maintain Testarossas and Diablos; basically anything with a V12. But I've never heard one complaint about any of AMG's V12 Biturbos; not the CL, SL, nothing. They still have to drop the engine for maintenance right? Or is it just that no one complains because the engine is just that awesome? Can anyone elaborate on this? I was just wondering because the SL65 AMG is definitely on my dream car list.:)

I see a SL 65 AMG Black series driving around my neighborhood once a month or so... Now that gets my attention!

As for a standard SL... I prefer the 55AMG. The 65 has more power than the tires can take, so it is really kind of pointless IMHO...

I've seen one SL65 AMG Black Series and it was silver. All I could say was WOW! It's extremely pricey though. I don't know why, but I actually prefer the SL65 over the SL55. Something about the wheels/accessories.

I agree that the 65 also looks better than the 55. I think part of the major appeal to the standard version 65 (at least for me) is that its a bit of a sleeper. Only car guys will be able to tell that there is something special under the hood.

Personally, whenever I see them, I just think about how awesome it would be to have 738 lb-ft of torque on tap to destroy just about anything on the road. Sure you can't use it from a standstill but any sort of pull at speed would have to such an amazing surge.

My friend's dad used to have an SL55 AMG. It was in the shop all the time. Not sure how the V12 fairs. He got rid of it and went for a Maserati GranTurismo. Only complaint is the leather on the glovebox was peeling. :/ It did make the interior look cheap even though it was a small thing. Warranty repaired it, but it took a while.

FWIF Kevin, a buddy of mine had one and after weeks of not being able to use it, MB gave him his money back. I'd guess in 8 weeks he drove it 3 days.

I asked him what was wrong and he said something to the effect that they didn't have the kinks worked out... I don't know if he just got a bad copy or what but...

On the other hand, I pass a guy in my neighborhood every morning who has one as a DD.

But the ultimate sleeper is a S65. Trust me. ;)

It's one of the best damn engines ever. I've owned both the SL55 and the SL65 and although the SL55 is good, the SL65 is in another league entirely. The car was bulletproof. Far more reliable than any Lambo I've owned and of course more torque. I was just one the brink of getting another SL65 but got a Bentley GT because I haven't owned one yet. The Bentley has a far better interior and I absolutely love it but the engine doesn't compare to the SL65. I also appreciate getting less attention in the SL65. I predict I will get back into another SL65 eventually.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess the car has mixed reviews. I do agree that the interior on the '08 SL65 AMG was a little lagging IMO. It looks like they fixed that problem with the latest edition though. Hopefully I'll have one someday. I'd like to have one as a DD when my Ferrari (future owner here) is in the garage.:)
