I saw a quote recently for a complete Mclaren F1 exhuast system. About $75,000. The muffler actually forms part of the crumple zone for rear crash protection.

I heard something like that too....
Can't even imagine how much a new clutch or engine rebuild would cost....

Anyway, it puts the car in a different league for me

I think he's asking whether it complies with the regulations regarding emissions and crash testing and the requirement to maintain a spares inventory.

Engines don't have to comply with crash regulations though. The requirement for maintaining an adequate supply of spares for 7 years is only imposed on large volume manufacturers.

Pagani does buy its engines from AMG (Mercedes). AMG allowed this thanks to the friendship/involvement between Horacio Pagani and Juan Manuel Fangio (ever wondered where the F of the Zonda F comes from?). Had it not been for Fangio, they'd have said "Was? Nein! Raus!" to the crazy argentine guy. :)

Is this the same AMG V12 found in the mid-90s SL 73 AMGs? http://www.fast-autos.net/mercedes/mercedessl73.html
