    Oh, right. Well, ...

FA actually had some of the same disadvantages -- too good a car too early -- good on the track, but keep him in a sack when he's out of the car. ;)

But I think this year with Renault has improved Alonso a lot. He's still a bit full of himself -- he should have chosen weeks ago to stay with Renault.

Now, after Alonso's two wins, it looks like Rubens might keep his ride with Honda. ;)

And Fred looks to be growing into his titles.

Of course, I still think of F1 as a manufacturers' series (despite the growing spec rules), so I like to see "real" manufacturers up front. So I like to see Alonso bring the Renault back up.

Ok, I know your mind is set, and you have a point, but I accept that things change ...

The way things are, I will stop watching this before you mate...;)

I work in IT ... change is our lives ...

What has changed about LH? ... falling apart just like last year. I guess this year he is determined to take out his opposition so he will actually win.

A couple of years ago in Australian V8 Supercars we had a driver called Rick Kelly win the title. Rick is very much like LH, in that he got his drive (and ofcourse it was the best car on the grid) because of his parents (efforts or money = same thing), etc. ... he actually is a tidy little driver also. But in the finally race he punted off his opposition and won.

Yesterday I watched the greatest saloon car race in the world: Bathurst ... and when they introduced the drivers to the crowd, no one, no one at all clapped and cheered for Rick, just deathly silence. It was embarrassing. Also their were banners in the stands saying things like "Thanks Mum for the drive, signed your son Rick". He should have earned his stripes like a man!

    Steve,

Why stop watching. Name a season or group of seasons where something wasnt amiss. Ok Schu had some runaways and the FIA changed the tire rule to alleviate that advantage and there is Ferrari bias? Bias is life, we discriminate daily and I think the FIA is now crafting rules for the environment rather than racing. KERS? Standard engines? Dont stop watching. I think F1 will endure.

I wont,I love racing and LH is still in the lead. Its up to Ferrari and its dismal pit performance this year to make it happen. LH and Mclaren just need to finish well. LH is not keeping his end of the bargain. This race didnt change things that much. Frankly this is sooo much better than last year its amazing. I will not stop watching until its a NASCAR clone and frankly the tendancy of the FIA is on that track and thats not good. Hopefully it wont go that far. This season is going down to the wire and Felipe needs to charge and LH needs to keep his cool. Its very exciting no matter the problems we endure as fans.

    DF1,

Steve meant this thread ... as I stopped watching F1 ages ago. F1 is a complete and utter joke, both because of Ferrari and because Bernie so desperately wants LH to win to make the $'s. Bernie forced LH into McLaren before Ron wanted to run him, etc.

Unless you snck up to Bernie or drive a prancing horse you might as well park your car. Thus Alonso's 2 WDC driving the unpopular French car is even more impressive ... hence why the tyres and then the clever mass damper thingy in the nose of the French car was deemed illegal.

Yeah, maybe so, but in the middle of the race isn't the time to sulk. Championships are lost that way.

Thanks for your concern mate, but really I hadn't really thought about the handing out of penalities after the race had finished, it's new to me and that is where I agree with Pete, F1 is a complete and utter joke.

The next Schumacher is already here and with two Drivers Championships under his belt.

When he was at McLaren didn't he say he was good for at least half a second in developing the car (or something to that effect)?
I remember A LOT of chortles tossed his way on this board at that notion... but he's proven himself valuable yet again. I'm sure that there is tremendous effort within the team to improve the car but I don't honestly see how it would be possible to take the dog that was the R28 to the levels it's at now without Alonso. Sure he may have a lot of ego but so does Hami, the difference being that Alonso is already a two time world champ to back it up. He's all skill, all pure raw talent (as is Hami), but without the need to c*ck it all up when it matters most.

Alonso should be in a Ferrari.

I hate to admit it, but agreed. Problem is you'd have to demote two other drivers, as the "equal" thing wouldn't work.

And the Overtaking Working Group has found that a car has to be at least 2 seconds a lap quicker to have a chance at overtaking a slower car.

Come on, Hamilton wasn't sulking. Did you see the amazing pass he did towards the end of the race on Alonso to unlap himself? That's how SpeedTV's Windsor and Hobbs would refer to it if given the chance, since everything Lewis does is nothing short of perfection.

Hahah, where Alonso moved aside so that Hamilton wouldn't jeopardize his win. We get the ITV feed here in Canada, and the commentators where going on about how Hamilton HAD to do that, because if a car, or 4 cars suddenly fell off the race track, Hamilton would get a point. Of course, Hamilton obviously doesn't play the long game like that, he was just unlapping himself out of anger and pride.

That pass was an incredibly powerful and rich metaphor for the relationship, and its development, between the two greatest drivers on the circuit.:)
