Well time for a little mid-week rant and rave..as I see it. The L car WAS never designed to be a "track" car. It was designed from day one to be, by the Father of Lamborghini, a "step above" the Ferrari. It was made to be for the people of means that wanted a GREAT road going GT touring car with all the comfort and performance a car should have for the wide open roads of the European countryside. It was made to perfrom better for the Gentleman driver, that he could take one of his many Girldfriends from Rome to the South of France in comfort, safety and reliable performance while still being able to carry your weekend luggage in the same car. The L owners that wanted to "Race" their cars had the means and the ability to purchase true "race" cars, such as the Wolf Countach cars, the SV-R, GT-R, RG-T and of late the Super Tufero cars..these cars were "Designed" for the track and performed as they should, on a track and not on a open "public roadway". The F car, from the begining had no heart for the "road driver" it was only built to help Enzo finance his passion for the "Track"..with little concern for comfort and long drives cross country in reliable fashion or style..it was put together to feed on the "masses" that wished to be Mario Speed racer every 4th Sunday of their life..and the money rolled in, allowing him to further his "Race" records..from cars that were "designed" for the track. These two basic "Different" thoughts of building a car for the public still live today. And as in all things in life gives us choices and options. You can purchase a top notch road gong car for style, comfort, reliabilty. Throw your bags in the trunk and drive from Seattle to Daytona Speedway in Florida, park your car, get out with no back pain or kidneys jolted to pebbles..climb in your "TRUE" race car and have a blast on the track all day.. OR you can get in your semi-built "race inspired" F car, drive from Seattle to Daytona Speedway and arrive late due to the multiple stops you need to make to give your back, knees, ears and kidneys a break from the constant dis-comfort ride. Then take your F car on the track, pretend to be a F-1 driver for the day..at the end..have it flatbeded back to the F shop/Service center for it's mandatory mileage service..which you pay dearly for and will be OK with..after all, you can tell everyone you lapped a Lamborghini on the track...of course this conversation will be carried at the height of 35,000 feet in the air, as you "Fly" back from Florida to Seattle, as there would be NO WAY you would ever put your body through the pounding it took on the way down...not to mention your girlfriend exited the car halfway down on the trip with her one pair of shoes and panties(all that could fit in the F car) and told you that you are "NUTS" if you think she is going all the way in the cramped rattle bucket causing her "implants" to bounce up and down, break and leak out. OK..let the flaming begin LOL LOL
I agree 100%. Comparing Ferrari's and Lamborghini's is apples and oranges. Lamborghini has never claimed to be a track car. From day 1 their purpose was to build the best and most exciting road cars, and they have succeeded at that task. Does Ferrari build the better track car? Yes. But Ferrari's entire philosophy is racing first and everything else just supports it. A "true" Ferrari in my opinion are cars like the F430 Scuderia, F40, F50, Enzo, etc....These cars are the no-compromise racing machines. That being said, who builds the better "ROAD" car....Lamborghini. Lamborghini gives you nearly identical performance, more comfort and livability, and a much more exciting and dramatic design. Lamborghini has much more road "presence" than Ferrari, and looking at a road car manufacturer, no one can top Lamborghini thus far IMO. Comparing the two is not only unfair to either manufacturer but it's also nonsensical because they're are operating on two completely different ideologies. You can't hold Lamborghini to Ferrari's standard because Lamborghini is not and never claimed to be a track car. All in all, they are two distinct mindsets by two very different companies, and that's what makes them unique and stand apart. Who builds the best track car? Ferrari, because that is what they do. They are a racing company first and everything else is just noise. Who builds the better road car? The king is Lamborghini, because that's what they set out to do. In the end, it all comes down to personal choice. For me, I'll take in 1999 Diablo SV over any Ferrari (Unless you give me an Enzo; which I would sell to get Diablo SV, LP670 SV, and an F50 ), but that's my personal preference. My 2 cents.
Sort of right in that Lambo never succeeded at racing or supported it much and perhaps even less so now that Owner Audi puts its race efforts in Audi, not Lambo. If comfort and baggage for the Girlfriend were really all that important, then WTF was the Miura or Countach for? They were touted first on performance and the ultimate test of performance is on the track, not the highway. And don't get too proud of reliability of the Lambo vs. Ferrari - neither one is going to win any JD Power reliability contest and I've seen plenty of Lambos on flatbeds. Until Audi took over, I am not sure I'd rather have a Lambo over a Ferrari for a long-distance trip. Don't get me wrong, I have a G and love it, but also have 355 and honestly, the 355 has more luggage room, a more comfortable ride, and a more spacious cabin. The G kills the 355 in performance, though. Same goes for for 360 - I'd rather have a G on track but might prefer the 360 for a road trip. I love both marques, since neither strives to build high-volume transportation appliances designed to neither offend nor excite. My main complaint with Ferrari is I feel like a red-headed stepchild when at the dealer, as if they are doing me a favor to make me pay over sticker for a car destined to be produced in serious quantity. My main complaint with Lambo is too much show, not enough go (at least not for a serious on-track driver) and if Lambos are comfy, girlfriend-toting GT cars, then look out for Aston Martin, Bentley, and even BMW or Porsche. Bottom line is cut back on the brand kool-aide, amigo, if you think Lambo is the be-all, end-all at anything
You Lambo guys are funny. Lamborghini has always been and always will be Ferrari's little snot-nosed brother, always trying to measure up and never quite will. Until Audi took over, Lambos were outlandish, ridiculous, and virtually impossible to live with; ask anyone who ever had to back up a Countach or Diablo. Now they're outlandish but far more "practical" and go, as they always have, like bats outta hell. Don't get me wrong, I like Lambos, but WHY would I ever buy one over a Ferrari?? Ferrari is about heritage and excellence of design begat from thousdands of races entered and thousands won; Lamborghini's heritage is tractors. The aesthetics of Lambos vs. Ferrari is, of course, all subjective; i.e. one may like the looks of the Gallardo more than the 430...or 458...or whatever, but there's no denying which cars and company have/has the more pure bloodline. As far as street cars are concerned...in virtually every test, subjective and otherwise, a Ferrari is rated and performs better than its equal Lambo counterpart. And this isn't only a recent development; Michael Sheehan points out that even the Miura SV, with its great looks and "technical sophistication, will get walked by a Daytona. And comparing a 512 TR to a Diablo...well...the Diablo is a "45 minute car"...after 45 minutes you can't wait to get out.
I'll agree that it is pretty ******y for an adult man to talk about "track times and race pedigree" when all he does is drive his 360 up and down the freeway to work....Oh and park it and bars and clubs telling girls " he is driving the Ferrari out front". lol I work with a guy who drive's a 360 and that pretty much sums up his Mon/Tue story about the weekend...Maybe I should start bragging about Ron Jeremy's ***** to anyone who will listen and the pedigree of @$$ its pounded, it has nothing to do with me personally but I do have a similar and newer model (same color even).
I love old Lamborghini`s and think some of the original post is quite relevant but for the most part it`s pure rubbish. Lambo struggled to sell 7 cars in Italy last month, thats way less than Ferrari`s 69 and Maserati`s 45 cars. Just goes to show how they are perceived in their own country, even now with the whole Audi influence. Ferrari is Ferrari.
See, now this is why I love the internet.. I just think it is great to hear all the different thoughts and comments..AND GLAD we can keep it civil.. Reminds me of the High School Football Games "We got spirit, yes we do we got spirit how about you" Bottom line..all cars are great and all cars have different appeal to differnt people.. I just felt like steering the some what BORING boards here of late..looks like it is working!!
Well done Roy! About time someone put a little fire under people on here! Having feet in so many camps I think Maserati build the best road cars for the purposes you described! Am sure this may provoke some reactions too! Paul
Well if I have to come out of the closet...LOL I just added this to my private cololection, my SIXTH AMX..love these cars 1969 AMX 390 Go Pack 4 speed car..ONLY 25,200 ORGINAL MILES!! what did frank sinatra once say ? those that think they are someone buy a ferrari - those that are someone buy a lambo (paraphrasing) i always hated Frank -
Roy I know it was a bad day for you when Alan Lambo sold his TT G and bought a 458 but you really need to get a grip. Numbers don't lie and US New Lambo sales are a total disaster. Old school Lambo's are interesting cars but as anyone who has driven them knows comfortable daily drivers they aren't. The new ones are fine if you like Audi interiors. In fairness the new LP700's interior is a bit more Italian and they told me they have a good number of orders for it. Kewl PS: The new FF is probably quite usable as a daily but as IMO it's way too ugly to own I bought my wife a Bentley which is probably a better daily than any Lambo or Ferrari.
More than happy to consign your cars and get them sold...give me a buzz at the officie tomorrow or drop my an e-mail
See, this was all a "trick" I had not heard from you for so long...I just knew this thread would get you talking agian.. I dont know about the rest of you...but I do enjoy the feedback and all the comments..lets keep them coming... BECAUSE as a Judge once told me... "There are three sides to "Every" story, yours, theirs and the Truth, which normaly lays in the middle somewhere " LOL Just like the love of all the different makes of cars and the differnt makes of people
d performs better than its equal Lambo counterpart. And this isn't only a recent development; Michael Sheehan points out that even the Miura SV, with its great looks and "technical sophistication, will get walked by a Daytona. And comparing a 512 TR to a Diablo...well...
What are you smoking? Lambo always better performance than Ferraris comparable model in a given year in the old days and even somewhat today. Miura SV beats Daytona top speed...read your old car mags; Countach beats all variants of Boxer, then all variants of TR made during those years too. Diablo smokes any variant of TR. (Ferrari got a little back with the F40 with arguably isn't a road car anyway, but a more of a track car) Murci smokes Maranello, and the story goes on. Excluding the limited non-production variants like F50, Enzo, what you said is wrong. Sheehan is a walking Ferrari boner so he is too biased to give comparisons in any case.

Each to their own but frankly 0-60, 1/4, and top speed bore me. My latest tops out at 263 KPH but should any of you want to have a go on a race course with your Lambo I will accommodate you. I'm actually quite confused by the original post. If Lambos were never really intended as track cars, then why does the factory offer them with all sorts of race-inspired gear (carbon ceramic brakes, flappy paddle gearbox, various suspension settings, etc.)? Cars like the SuperVeloce and SuperLeggera seem pretty much dedicated to track work. If Lambos are better as long-distance cruisers, wouldn't a full-fledged GT car be much better in that regard? If I wanted to arrive to a location in comfort and style, I would probably be in a 550/575/599 or an Aston, Bentley, etc. rather than a mid-engined low weight supercar like the Murcielago, Diablo, etc.
Hahaha seriously! Ferrari's customer relations is the ultimate in abusive relationships...It's like the boyfriend who hits his girlfriend every night yet she keeps going back to him... I love both brands and they do make some unique and exciting cars! It's always intersting to see the debates as they unfold...
I agree with you 110%, have no desire to take my street car against your race car..it would loose..and if it wasnot for the fact that I do not think I am any where near an accomplished track driver..I WOULD put up my SV-R #24, my GT-R #18 or my R-GT up against a comparable year produced Ferrari track car...I dont know what the outcome would be../but I am sure it would be one heck of a fun day!!
