Wow, that was a lot of amazing discussion regarding track experience, and sorry to hear about your son and glad he's ok. I was pondering getting the car (F430) on the track just to see how much fun I can safely (for me and the car) have with it, sounds though like there is much to consider. Any recommendations for how/where you can have some fun with the car without having to go the full track route? Should I just search for 'great roads for driving'? Just wondering if anyone has thought of or found any other solutions.
Hey colorful, The track is a super safe venue depending on how serious that person is. That person's son with the unfortunate ending is a full on racer and there are inherent dangers involved at that level and speeds. For a novice to Intermediate track day guy (maybe 3-5 track days a year), the race track is safer than the local Target parking lot or streets. I am an avid tracker for 20 years and an instructor for 15 years now and do speak from experience.
Basic maintenance of engine oils, brake pads/fluids, trans/diff oils and tires are the essentials to having safe fun at the track. Hope this helps
You are welcome. The 430 is a beautiful track car...take her out for an out of body/visceral experience on the track!
Say what you want a 300hp car wasn't much performance 25 years ago and would put you to sleep today. They don't have to be soulless sterile squibs as they are now but being embarrassed by a MILF in a Camry late for preschool ain't makin it.
Back in the day my buddy had a 308, he raced his girlfriend who was driving a VW rabbit cabriolet. Guess who won.
Interesting take on your 599 vs F12. I had an F12 for about 3 months and found it nearly unusable, and I think it's where Ferrari lost me with the new cars and new tech. Slight throttle pressure in the F12 (second gear) and you've busted through every speed limit in North America, I couldn't imagine an 812. Though I didn't like the styling when it arrived, I can appreciate what Pininfarina did with the F12 and think it's a special car in that regard. I have found that getting older, I am appreciating driving fast cars right at the speed limit and in that regard I really enjoy the 599. Has Ferrari confirmed the 812 as the last strictly NA V12? Looking forward to seeing pictures when yours arrives. Oh, I did recently take deliver of a 550 and I cannot believe I've waited this long to have one.
