In any forum, people come and people go. I just ignore stupid stuff when I see it. Kindof like flipping through the TV. I'm not going to turn it off completely just because one channel is not to my liking.

Mom always said, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say it all"

Not really sure why I said that...just something that I pulled from my archives.

Bruce, I couldn't agree with you more. I've been a silent observer for sometime now, chiming in now and then. I haven't wracked up thousands of posts in the time I've been a member like yourself and others, but threads like "If your Ferrari was a woman, what would her name be?" are just ridiculous and don't warrant a response. The site has deteriorated, despite all the improvements.

Holy frickin Christ, Bruce posted that 9 months ago! Simple, don't read the damn posts you don't like. There are many more posts and users now than when you first joined. Percentage wise nothing has changed, but the same percentage equals more crap and more good stuff.

There seems to be lots of teenagers and 'wannabes' on Ferrarichat - people who don't own cars but badly-badly want to, and live vicariously through those who do. Lots of them are bored, and spend too much free time starting lame-assed threads, sounding hip/ghetto, and trying to impress other board members with their 'My-parents-and-I-live-in-a-Gated-Community" lifestyle. If half these losers spent more of their free time working a second job to get a car or getting involved with other, less-expensive Ferrari related hobbies like collecting literature/models/insignia/F1 stuff or other worthwhile pursuits, I might have some respect for them. But I don't.

I'm here for the technical advice, and I miss the contributions of JRV and Kermitt and anyone else who's turned a wrench on these cars more than I have. Much of everything else here is just noise....

Kermit is still around. Unfortunately, JRV took more value away than he added, as evidenced by the lack of participation in his own communities. In the past couple years we have grown our core of technical experts 4-5 times what it once was. We now have REAL mechanics that REALLY work on Ferraris day to day. Many of these are too busy to be active all day, but they come in and offer advice when it counts. I need to update the Consultants list, but many are listed there and available by PM. What we're left with unfortunately in the tech section is those that do have the time to post maybe are just hobby mechanics or hacks. I think much of the negative comments and friction comes from these hacks that use to be worshiped in a time before we had several dozen of the top mechanics in the world here.

Would second Rob's post. There is some amazing information out there and some of the top folks in the world post stuff there for simple enthusiasts like me. I've learned a lot in the past years!
    Really great folks all around.

Well, believe it or not, I'm glad about Kermitt - I'm probably one of the 'silent ones' who bought work/products from him recently and have been absolutely delighted with the service, quality of work, and professionalism. But having read that thread and seen it closed, I'll shut my mouth about that.....

I'd also like to point out that the greatest loss to FerrariChat was the Archives section. Seems that every common techincal question gets hammered by some know-it-all idiot who stammers to post: GO LOOK IN THE ARCHIVES. Well, guess what - the server crashed not-too-long ago, and much of the pictures/diagrams in the archives have been wiped out!!! Many of the threads that hinged on a picture or diagram don't make much sense anymore when the pictures that went with the text were obliterated, and few reposts have corrected the lost pic/pdf/diagram. Some of the 'search-the-archives' Nazis need to cool it so that fresh data or fresh perspectives can be replentished. If anyone thinks a certain thread is particularly valuable and can repost pics/pdf/diagrams, I think it would be a terrific thing. Yes, I remember many tech posts from way-back-when, many that contained info I need now (but not when they were originally posted) - they're gone and probably lost forever.

Its soon time to do something we all should be doing - fixing and driving.

This is a great site..but people who can afford Ferrari's have money..and there will always be people who are envious of others who have things they don't have. There will always be trolls. FC has just gotten alot more popular..hence more trolls. But not to worry..they just look for attention and hence are easy to pick out.

This site was invaluable before, during, and after the purchase of my "dream" car. Its a terrific resource for anyone aspiring to ownership. Ferrari has been, and always wil be, a cultural, technical, and artistic passion for me. I've met great people on this site, and hope to meet more. Lamenting the "good old days" I guess, is a part of human nature. I'm sure we're all busy, and have limited time during the day. I find it very taxing to have to sort through the nonsense to get to topics of substance. I guess Bruce's original post just set me off..

as a few people have already said here, if you open up a post and you dont like what you read just go on to the next one, or if you dont like the title of the post dont go in, its all by choice.... i am new here, never owned a ferrari before and did not have any knowledge of these cars [ mechanically], but the short time i ve been a member of f chat i have learned so much about my 348, with the help of ernie and jeff burk just to name a couple, i can now open up the hood or should i say engine bonnett and i now know what im looking at. f chat is very educational !! and there are other topics here some just dont get my attention so i dont go in, but no matter where you are you will always have people who like you or dislike you, its all about life........
    just my opinion........

I understand your perspective. I've tried to handle the population growth of our community by opening more forums to still have some small community feel. It is a difficult balance trying to find the right formula. I don't think anyone wants me to turn everything off except to just 100 users. Or maybe you do? :)

Fchat to me is STILL worth it's weight in gold, and I say that because I'd been here for a good two years almost before I ever even registered. AEHAAS's threads on oil, the fireworks over torque vs hp, Spasso's airbox restriction thread, the 4 liter 308 thread, Steve Rochlin's experiences on his car, Birdman, Verrell, Carreaper- all make this site worth 20 times the membership costs. It is incredible and just keeps getting better.

Now, to have a Countach thread for those of us who turn our own wrenches :D

No Rob, I would not want that. Free speech at all costs for me. Besides, where else can I read posts like the last one? What phrasing...I'm still cracking up!

    Forza Ferrari!
