Sorry for this rant. So we work on our cars, pamper them love them. Sometimes there good and sometimes there bad, so we usually try to figure out the bad part and make it good. So this season my car had more check engine lights than a christmas tree, bad. So with some help from you guys new O2 sensors resetting the MAFs and the car has never run better with no lights.Good. Than my AC was not working at idle.Bad. And again with some help here figured the fan was not comming on. Connection was dirty, repaired and now the Car is like a meat locker.Good. So all is well in Ferrari land right? Nope she did it to me again, the rear window I just replaced a little over a year ago is delamanting again. WTF! After all the work just finding a seal for the window and the window itself I'm back to square one. Not to mention the cost of it. I saw it yesterday and was so dissapointed I just threw her back in the garage told her I hate her and left her in the dark! For ever I think now. I think it's time for a 360. Thanks for listening. Always better to have problems with a car than problems with a wife. One just takes a couple of paychecks the other takes all of you paychecks along with everything else!!! Can you go into more detail about the problems with the window?
Honestly, if you expect a 20 year old car to ever remain perfect you might be in for a lot of disappointment. Fixing stuff is supposed to be half the fun, right?
You think a 360 is going to be like a Honda? They're not. They have issues as well. Does the glass prevent you from driving your car and enjoying it? If you're one of these guys that needs everything on the car to be perfect I hate to tell you the 360 isn't going to be a magical cure. They get mysterious check engine lights, odd F1 transmission lights, etc. The difference is you need an SD2 to diagnose the 360. I considered a 348 with my 360 when I was shopping. I ended up with the 360 but will have a 348 in the future, which is why I visit this board occasionally. Why not just drive the car and enjoy it until the stupid glass completely falls apart or for that matter tint it? There will ALWAYS be an imperfection in a car that isn't a garage queen.
If you don't love your car, get rid of it. Let someone else love it and move on. That goes for any car, not just the 348. It's not like you're married. There's no shame in throwing in a towel. If a toy is no longer bringing you joy, get another to play with.
White may just be my new favorite color for the 348....looks awesome. Don't despair my friend....you've fixed it once, you can fix it again. I know how you feel, it can really be a love-hate relationship at times.
Yeah, time to sell that rag-bag. Since it's a deteriorating peice of crap, but I'm your friend, I'll help you out by giving you salvage value for it. Fchat is the only place in the world you'll get sympathy for a problem with your Ferrari. Your friends and neighbors just wish they had a Ferrari to have problems with.
Oh you guys are great now I feel worse. I know I shouldn't be complaining my wife said oh poor you your Ferrari isn't perfect boo hoo, I think she's going in the garage next. About the glass. I guess during theses years Ferraris glass mfg. sigla was having quality problems. It seams the rear glass and windshield of the 348 and 355 the glass starts to delaminate. Remember that the windows are 2 sheets of glass with a plastic core. For whatever reason the glass starts to separate from the plastic and come apart, I'll post some pictures later.Plugzit thanks I'll take your offer I'll send you a check for 150 thousand you deposit it and you keep the salvage value and just send me the rest, than ill ship the car. sounds good right? My address might be in Africa you see I am a long lost king of one of thoses places or something.
When you beat a baseball bat on your head all day long, you have two ways to deal with the pain 1) stop hitting your head with a baseball bat Or 2). Accept the pain as a bi-product of your actions. Complaining about it isn't either 1 or 2.
Why do you NOT have glass coverage on your insurance? Its like $2 bucks a month. Pretty cheap way to stop worrying for me.
Uhh, just a thought but it sounds like you're doing a lot of do-it-yourself fixes. Not sure what your experience as a Ferrari mechanic is, but I've found that at times, for most of us there is no substitute for a) letting a pro work on it, and b) spending some money upfront to get things truly right. Now, that being said I once rented a 348 in Vegas and remember all in the same day getting stranded in the desert around Lake Mead and then it literally dying *in the middle of a very large and busy intersection on the way back after which I abandoned it (too dangerous to stay with it at least until the cops came and parked behind it with lights flashing) and called the rental company from the safety of a parking lot to pick it up! So I am familiar with the frustration one must feel trying to enjoy owning/driving one. BTW, white looks great -- same color as the one I rented -- was a certain Las Vegas rental company a prior owner ;-)? I'd be curious to see what others think about truly sorting out 348s to be more reliable and trouble-free. Is it worth it or just not the right car to sink money into and/or get attached to?
I'm with you on putting the wife in the garage and the Ferrari in the house. No problem, cash OK for the difference?
I must say White is a nice color on the 348, that's a pretty cool picture. You could go to the dark side like Robbie, do lambos have problems too? I would imagine a gallardo to be pretty reliable being it's made from audi parts.
Yes I do all my own work. I know a 20 year old car has problems and I enjoy fixing things that come up like we all do. The window problem is not due to anything I have done its Ferraris lack of quality control from there vendors. This problem with there glass is nothing new and not just related to 348s. The window is new and after a year it should not have problems like comming apart. I have glass coverage but it's not a safety issue it just looks bad and having it replaced again will only do the same thing again. The car came from Texas and was not a rental car lol. Thanks for all the comments fellas after a few days I'll go visit her and see if we can work things out.
when a car is "born" or leaves the assembly line, she's already 21 years old in human age and then she ages in normal human years thereafter. many people mistaken her being made in 1991 to mean she's only 21 years old now. she's actually 42......no matter how much of plastic/cosmetic surgery or transplants she goes for, you have to accept her to be a 42 year old lady and treat her as such and stop hoping you'll be getting the same type of action from a 21 year old chick..... ps : plz don't ask me how i came up with this gibberish (someone must have come up with the idea/reasoning that a dog's year is equivalent to 7 human years right!!), but it just did and that's how i'm treating my '91 348. if you want the reliability and action in bed of a 21 year old, go get a 458! ;-)
Get a spider...no more rear glass problems!! Of course there will be other problems...seat pots, top motors, top fluid changes, canvas.........
