Stick with the 348
I agree. The rear window glass delaminates easily and it the quality is not that good. If you don't mind living without a defrost, do what I did and get the lexan challenge rear window. Never had an issue with it and it is far less expensive, saves some weight too. --Mike
I have no problems with mine, but I just had to say that the rear window is one of the coolest aspects if the design of the car. I had no idea it was such a beautifully curved piece of glass when I bought the car....since I had never seen one in person before I bought mine (other than ones on the road). I like to point it out to people since it is so easily overlooked.
As a DIYer, I would place the car on a turntable with the offending O2 in the very center. Then I would weld a pole onto the sensor, attaching the pole to a rafter. Then spin the car counterclockwise. Easy-peasy.
That is a great method and maybe this should get a sticky! ........ however if one wants to remove the o2 sensor without damaging the threads ..... with the pole into the rafters and the o2 sensor vertical below, looking down the car would have to be spun in a 'clockwise' direction ........
I find it's much easier if you shrink yourself (whole body not just a python organ) down in size to 8-10 inches and use a micro sledge hammer on the wrench.
I never said anything about replacing an O2 sensor, that's easy -- unless of course you then discover that it wasn't the problem.
I believe it's the same rounded rear window. Mines delaminating as well but now you can't see it. I had it done by a local high end car tint shop. Took him a while to figure the curve out, though. Kai
on my original window it was tinted to hide the delamantion, I just wanted to have a clear window again thats why I replaced it. I will go to the tint place and see if he can tint it with a light film on the outside. its nice to see another white 348 when you get tired of the SS seats call me thats what I am missing for my SS, LOL thanks for the feedback. Tommy
My 348 is currently on a time-out in the garage until I can be bothered to swap her brake light fuse again - don't know if she's thinking about her mistakes, but I feel better!
I should start a 348 retraining/babysitting service. Hand me your disobedient 348s and I shall drive them and whisper soothing words at them until they decide to completely behave again.* * Note: I shall discreetly encourage naughtiness in order to prolong my time with them. All the best, Andrew.
I haven't been able to find a shop here local to me that can or dares to tint the rear window. Not only are they afraid of the shape and the fact that there is no black around the edge to hide mistakes, all the shops I've talked to are afraid the heat gun used to shrink the film will cause the window to delaminate. I've thought about driving 450 miles to Vegas and finding someone willing to do it.
When the OP listed his DIY projects, O2 sensor was among them, and your comment about letting a pro work on it made me wonder how a pro would do it any different/better.
When the second set of cats were put on my 355 it wasn't done well. The 02 wires were twisted, the pro who put the third set on said he sees that all the time. The wires get so twisted that they are stressed and eventually break.
I think daniel should market "My Ferrari Broke Down Tissues". A box of tissues with a ferrari logo on it to use while crying that your F car broke down again. They should be car specific with the scud shield & photo of your model on the box.Maybe with a compassionate phrase like"we understand, from the the owners forum ". They would be in use constantly showing how elite we are to have an expensive car that fails for countless reasons constantly. It can also come with your name on the box for an addition charge of $250.Why so much you ask? To keep in line with the cost of the parts. Why have the tissues be cheap!-John A"My Ferrari broke Down Security Blanket" should also be in the works.I couldnt find a photo of a 348 so I used the 355.Im on my 10th box.
