What a great day today. We've really had a nice run of weather the past couple weeks here. This morning I headed out around 7:30 am and met up with a buddy who has a very nice '65 Corvair. The plan was to go for a drive. Well, I took him on one of my favorite routes which is filled with hills and turns. We played a little "Catch me if you can." The drive was a total blast! We drove about 65 miles total and with all the curved and hills it was a nice work out.
Once home I realized that my little GT4 needed a bath after an hour and a half of hard exercize. (see pics) First I got the road grime off and then gave her a nice little bath. To reward her for the great performance earlier, I gave her new laces for her shoes. (check out the newly re-chromed lugs) She is a HAPPY car now. :)
So now I have a nicely cleaned car all ready for a drive to Tunica, MS in 2 weeks. Hopefully the weather will be this nice on the 9th!!!

Shhhhh.... Don't let the secret out!! All those crazy folks who leave them sitting in the garage and drive them a few hundred miles a year are just saving them for the rest of us to get our hands on later and drive them like we stole them. If it gets around that these cars actually DO benefit from being driven, the supply of low mileage F-cars will dry up. Oh wait, I forgot the "turn back the odometer" syndrome. Never mind, there will always be a plentiful supply of low mileage F-cars, no matter how far they get driven.

I took my QV to the Coronado Speed Festival - the first real run since Bobileff finished a major service. Wow! The car just sings! Really spectacular going over the bay bridge seeing the San Diego downtown skyline, Coronado, Point Loma and the Pacific beyond. When I got there I was directed to the Car Corral where I pulled in to a covy of expensive F-iron. With my driver's side door panel still off in the slow window fix I felt a little tacky. How come those guys always have such perfect cars!?! No matter. A great day of racing and a ton of terrific vintage racers. Since Steve Earle has taken over the organizing this event has gotten hugely better. Jon Shirley and Peter Giddings showed up with '31 and '34 Alfa GP cars.. Just super to watch and hear in full song. Great trip home also - I need to get some new chromed lugs (after I fix the windows!)
