1st time 348 owner. I see so many pics on this site with the lower panels and targa room painted to match the car color. I purposely selected to not do this because I thought it would decrease the resale value. I admit I like it, but am I being too conservative or too much a purist????

    It looks much better.
Which is an opinion of course.
I would have no other way :)

I would leave them black if I had a 348, but as Christopher said it's a matter of opinion. I think it looks neat either way.

I tend to like black trim around the bottom of vehicles if only because it seems like you'll be forever cleaning and respraying (and trying to color match...) the red trim as it gets chipped up from road debris.

As has already been said it's a matter of personal taste, although the cars had painted lower panels from the factory.........they then had a coat of satin black over the top.....carefull colour sanding will bring the painted finish back ;)

At first, I thought I would want to paint mine, but I have to admit that the black trim is growing on me.

Sorry guys... have a 1993... they came painted from the factory.

There were years that they had to be painted, but now in 2006 they look very nice to me in black also. In fact, if mine were black I wouldn't have painted them.

Black 348 here.... so I'll stay out of the conversation. However, I personally think the color matching makes the car appear lower, and more aggressive. Me like-y !

The easiest way to go about it, is to go a few paint/body shops in your area and get some quotes to do the job. I would take a wild guess and say at least US$800. Maybe cost you less, maybe cost you alot more too :)
Get some quotes, then go from there.

targa top is a toss up but I am definitely a fan of painted lower panels...

IMO, it does not decrease the value, but will actually INCREASE the value... The amount of people that are looking for everything color coded WAY outnumber the amount of people that would rather keep it black....and since this was done by the factory on later years, most finding it not only exceptable, but desirable.

It's your car, I personally want to enjoy my car and make it MY car...I've never been a purist because I think adding kewl knick knacks add to the fun...Some people's idea of fun is keeping it PURE, not I! And if you are worried about resale, almost any modification you do can be switched back to original when you sell.

they HAVE to be colour coded!

unless you are obsessed with originality its a simple way to take about a DECADE off the age of a 348!

can always have it reverted to black if you wish down the track....
