At Concorso I believe there was 10 430's total, and of that only 2 were Coupes, maybe 3, but im pretty sure it was only 2, and from the CC coverage as well it appears a majority are Spiders over Coupes, and also just from random shots I have seen of new owners posting theirs, it appears the number of Spiders is greater than Coupes.

Is this because the Spider has a better chance of holding value over a Coupe?

I am not looking to start a big price debate, or price watch thread, I am just trying to get some info and start a friendly discussion :D

It's because most people who order a 430 would rather have a spider. The same way that (I believe, correct me if I'm wrong) there are more 360 spiders than coupes.

For me it came down to the fact that I will not track the car (the Carrera GT gets that duty) -

The lines of the coupe are beautiful, but I would rather have a ragtop to let the sun shine in.

I think 360 coupe production exceeded Spider, and the same is planned for the 430, IIRC. And for the record, I prefer the coupe in both models.

I've been told by the dealer that the factory is now setting the ratios -- Spiders to coupes and F1s to manuals.

So if you're not one of the Favored Ones, you might be in for a very long wait if you insist on buying a 430 coupe with a stick!

The fact that they make more $$ off of Spiders I'm sure has something to do with it.

From all reports (I have absolutely zero experience with either the F430 coupe or spider, so I could be dead wrong), there isn't that much a difference between the coupe and spider with the F430, unlike the 360. That would make it even more enticing to get a spider over a couple.

some of the ones at Concorso were stick but for the most part it was F1, i think with the current technology Ferrari uses most people are paying the extra money for the F1 experience :D

    i know i would.

Isn't it simple? More customers want spiders over coups and paddles over a third peddle.

F355: 33% of total production were Spiders.
360: 45% of total production were Spiders.
F430: 55% of total production projected to be Spiders.

    ;)

Maybe so, but some of us who actually prefer a coupe with the third pedal can't order one until the factory allocates enough for production. So it's not just customer preference which accounts for the ratios.

Everyone makes more money when F1 Spiders are sold so maybe that is explanation enough.

Spider's have better resale and longer wait line's. So the factory got smart and up the production number's.

Out of 10 430's at Concorso, these two Spiders were the only two 430's that had stick, the rest had F1. Thought I would share the pics.

The silver one was through Silicon Valley Auto Group so it was probably flipped and whoever bought it just got it to have a 430, they may or may not have cared that it was stick, and the red one came through Ferrari of San Francisco so it was probably ordered that way specifically by its owner.

I can't help myself, but I think the stick looks somehow out of place in the F430 interior. :(

(although I really like manuals and the typical open gate...)

in australia for the 360 they released the coupe at least 12 months before the spider and guys who had a coupe and a slot for the spider ended up not taking the spider and as a result spider sales were less.....thats what i have been told. for the 430 , ferrari released both at the same time and they dramaticaly changed the ratio of spider to coupe coming in to the country. in melbourne they only have 3 coupes and 6 spiders for this year. in brisbane it is the same. so i assume at the moment it would be better to own a coupe in australia as there are fewer around
