I have put my 1995 F355B on the market via ebay and all I have had is low ball offers.

The car is in excellent condition both inside and out and I have complete service records. Although the last major was June of 2002 at 21,000. The car now has 31,000 miles and will be due for another major, but I feel that is certainly priced into the car.

I initally was asking 69k, then 64k and now 60k which I feel is below what the market should be for this car. Is it that the market is so soft for exotics, or Ferraris, or do most people just try and steal a car if they can.

The car is red and tan, so color should not be an issue.

    Any input?

Don't be discouraged, now is not exactly the best time sell it.
Exotic car market is slow. check out dealer sites, ebay ads etc...
alot of the cars are sitting. and sitting for MONTHS (4-6 of em).
Maybe hold off on selling it until spring. It'll sell quickly then.
Wish I wanted a 355, cause that sure is a purty one :D

Beautiful car. Bad time to sell? IMO e-bay sometimes brings out low ballers. Try cars.com. You can renew for free until it sells. Maybe wait until early spring. Maybe doing a major would help it move.

$60 seems quite low. Some 328 are going for that now.

    Yup.
also when the price is too cheap, it creates a skeptic buyer.

Remember, Ebay is a place to make a cheap deal. So a lot of people wont shop for certin things. I for one, will never buy a car from ebay. Im sure there are others. I know you can stand there and say there is nothing wrong with ebay but that wont change how a customer feel.

If I was selling my 348 Fcar, I would put it in some BMW car yard. Its cheaper then some of the BMWs and most of the owners would first think an Fcar is way to much to buy. All it takes is some guy with a mid-life-crisis to see it in the corner of his eye and then its sold.

It wouldnt hurt you either way.

Very true. Consumers actually want to feel like they're spending a proper amount - it's part of the buying psychology.

Ebay is a great place to advertise. I sold my 911 there and had a huge number of hits and 10 or so bids. I priced it at dealer retail and sold it at my 'buy-it-now'. It doesn't hurt to list any car with a healthy reserve.

There probably is some seasonality as well.

I was actually thinking about this car a few days ago. Let's discuss condition, history, and records. PM me or I'll list my questions and PM you when I get back to my office.

I'm leaning toward the view that the brick and mortar auctions are the way to sell Fcars. Not eBay. Not by Owner (e.g. ad in Dupont Registry). Not a trade in.

...the main exception being selling to someone (e.g. local Ferrari Club member) who has expressed interest in your car earlier when you weren't quite ready to sell yet.

i asked myself that many times when i had a 911 cab for sale. it was a very pretty car in solid condition and it took 9 months and several price drops to finally sell it. i also got lots of low ballers. it takes a while sometimes.

I totally disagree with this. Any educated/serious buyer realizes that eBay is simply one more place that a car can be located. Once you locate a car there...or anywhere else for that matter...it's up to the potential buyer to do the necessary research with phone calls, references, trips, PPIs, etc. to evaluate the car.

As far as why it isn't selling...I can't speak to the time of year issue, certainly fall wouldn't be the best time to sell a spider, but yours is not that. From my own experience as a recent serious potential buyer of a 355, I will give you my take. I was the person who started the recent thread "who was looking to buy a 355...but then decided not to". That thread started a lot of banter from both sides, so I don't want to go there again. Simply put, I decided not to buy because the price for maintaining a 355 was out of my league...I could spend $80 now...but couldn't afford ~ $4 - $5K every year to fund the maintenance and potential issues. Also, I didn't want a first year model (1995)...I'm that way with any car, because "bugs/issues" WILL expose themselves in the real world that never showed up on paper. Hope this helps and best of luck selling your car.

I placed my 89 328 for sale on fchat at $65k. After a month I dropped it to $60k and was willing to take $58k. Still no serious inquiries.

Just when I thought it would never sell, someone called and bought it for $62.5k (from a different ad).

Don't worry, your call will sell. I hope you had it at $60k when I first saw your ad, I would have snapped it up.

I would never buy a car from Ebay, and certainly not a Ferrari. And thousands of people with me.

Your car is a steal for that price, I won't bother telling you what it would cost here.
Why don't you let your car sell by a Ferrari dealer or respected sub-Ferrari garage ? People have more confidence to buy with them I guess.
They can earn $ 5000 and you will get more than now.

That's how it goes here most of the times...

Sounds like a decent deal. I paid 67,500 for a black/black 95 355b. with the major done 1 month before I bought it. It also had the valve guides done and has ALL records from the previous owners. Have you had any issues with the valve guides? What about the manifolds? People are going to be scared being the year of the car and that it needs a major. Your price isnt a steal but its a good deal for a car needing a major.

The markets are soft for everything at this point. Did you see the price of oil today? $59 and change!

    It's going to take time.

Hold off on eBay for a while. Put it on Dupont Registry (www.drautos.com)
and try Craig's List if it has a NJ section.

Be patient, and don't be so quick to drop your price if it's a nice car.

People buy cars due to interest and then they deal with the price.

Give it all away upfront, and then you are left with little with which you can deal!

I agree with the "If it sounds too good .....".
FYI: there is nothing wrong with a Clean '95. They are actually Quicker than the '96-98s with the same Glitches. If you don't need the Money now, i'd wait till Spring. You can try Consignment with a High End "Used Car" Dealership. Most F-Cars Dealerships have Plenty of used Ferrari's, however 355's are not Popular with them ???
There is a Bentley Dealer that currently has 3 360 Spiders available. Perhaps there is a Glut of Exotics available. I can't believe the 355 Market is so Soft.

I was in the market this summer for an F355 and I also agree on the price and E-bayissue, at $60,000, coupled with marketing on E-bay, my guess would be that it had something seriously wrong with it, (accident damage, "cleansed Florida title", valve guides bad, header issues, etc.). I looked at cars on E-bay, but felt (justified or not) that most of those cars had issues and were hoping to dupe someone to buy them. FWIW, I purchased a 95 F355 Berlinetta the same colors as yours for closer to your original asking price this summer. If the car is as clean as it looks, patience should reward you with a better sales price. I believe if the car was marketed in the spring, you would do much better. Very best of luck, it looks like a great car!

Ebay is advertising. No one is gonna click BUY IT NOW or bid to top dollar without talking to you and coming to see the car. Its another Want Ad. Someone in the market will find it and contact you.

Exotic market is a tough one. Remember this: there are a million people looking for $1000 cars. There are 1000 people looking for $1,000,000 cars.

I bet it would sell at $65K+ if it had a Tubi and a Challenge grill. These 2 items should be standard on a F355.

Thats fine you may disagree, but the point I was making is, there are a bunch of people that wont look at a car on ebay. Dont limit your market. Im not alone and people with cash would happy to get a legit deal from a dealer then to take risks with scams on ebay.

and there are more out there too.

Best thing to do, IMO, is start a thread here agonizing over why the car isn't selling. You could have over 300 hits on something like that.
