  1. I Wasn't Aware You Could Fill Out These Details

  2. I Want To Maintain My Privacy

  3. I'm Too Lazy

  4. Other (please elaborate in the thread)

  5. I Don't Own A Ferrari, and Therefore Didn't Feel It Appropriate / Necessary

I think its funny that most of the people on here who are bad mouthing those who don't fill in there name, are using abreviated or nicknames. I myself am a private person, and more so then me, its for my family. Plus, I don't need a lunatic trying to find me!

Me too. I could never understand why people respond to posts with "why isn't your profile filled out?"

I used to have my profile filled out completly. But with the scare Maranello Man had on this site, and the actions he had to take to protect himself, I felt it wise to remove some of the other details. Not that I'm a paranoid sort, but there have been alot of internet bullies, that have turned out to be real hunters of people on boards like this. Just read some of the stuff in the news paper about how people have been tracked down, and in some cases killed because of internet battles gone way to far.

I would much rather have my security, then win favors on a chat site.

I don't like the idea of a trail. I think caller id is a plague. I pay in cash when I can. I don't believe I should have to show my ID to anyone unless they have a strong suspicion I am not who I say I am or they have GOOD reason to suspect I have committed a crime. I like anonymity(sp?). The only reason I filled out as much as I did is because some of the people here seemed like good people. If anyone other than NNO or Rob know my last name, I've done something horribly wrong. That's a rough reason on me being against profiles despite the fact I have some of my filled out. Actually now I want to remove a bunch of it, I think $50 a year gives me that luxury.

I was originally skeptical, since I don't plan to ever buy a Ferrari. I love em, but I love other makes even more. I just don't like flashy cars, especially red ones. My family got one back in 1984, and I still use it occasionally for a show.

I also am a first name basis kind of guy; when I attend F-car events, I am there for the cars, not to namedrop or to talk business. It kills the mood for me. A lot of owners prefer to not have their last name googled just because they own a valuable car.

With my info kept to a minimum, those "in the know" still can identify me when I post and contact me here if they need to.

Very good point. $50.00 a year should give some of us that luxury. Maybe all the people that don't like scetchy profiles should become paying members before they spout off.

I like to see where someone is on the planet as it then gives you an idea about when you can expect a response and if you can help with a query they have. Also where is the harm in giving a first name?

Forcing people to fill out profiles makes them put in false info so whats the point? I used to have my profile filled out a while back and over time made changes to it and then eliminated it all together and now the info on it is minimal. Why? Because I feel better thinking I have a little more privacy and the people that know me already dont read my profile anyway.

As far as credibility goes, Ive seen enough moronic decisions being made on this site over the years that proves to me that people will come here, ask for advice and do what they want anyway, regardless of the advice they are given by any number of knowledgable individuals that a profile saying they are "this" or "that" wont make any difference anyway. My profile says im a mechanic because I fix cars for a living, I thought that would mean something here, sometimes its a ferrari, sometimes a viper, sometimes a lotus, a crappy porsche 930, or a beat up escort with furry floor boards. Bottom line is I can give my opinion on something mechanical and some yoyo IT tech/data entry nerd can say something contrary and people are just as likely to side with him/her. Whats the point in people knowing Im a mechanic or where I live if they dont listen anyway? So why fill out my profile? I put a pic of one of my cars there so at least "they" know (or believe) i own a ferrari, whatever thats worth.

Don't get too bent out of shape. I personally appreciate the input from the pro's and I like it when your experience is indicated in your post. This does not however stop me from continuing to ask why. Sometimes we need more than the simple " it's just the way it is".

if you don't put in your profile, you are not in the "club", and everything you say/ask will be questioned, and if you say you own a ferrari or any high profile cars, prepare to produce VINs or have a pic or you with the car :)..if you own diecasts, you better say so !!

I'm filled out in a half-arsed manner, with some truth, and a droplet or two of humor.
My full name will remain private.
Sorry, but I've learned not to trust the world.

    Frank,
Please tell me you are kidding. Being an attorney, I am surprised you don't guard your own privacy a little better.

I don't understand why some people take porfiles so seriously. I have been on here 4+ years and have yet to check one out. I have no trouble telling apart those with something to offer from those who don't. Mine is partially filled out just so I don't have to hear "fill out your profile" yet not reveal enough to make me easy to find. I have made friends on here and a few have even been to my house, but I wish to stay in charge of who knows me and who doesn't.

You might try subscribing and help support the club. How does saying you own Ferraris in your profile differ from saying so in a post? Cheeezzz.

As a brand new visitor to this site I was mainly concerned with just getting a couple questions answered. I didn't realize there was more to it than that.

I can understand people who don't want to disclose where they live and that they own a Ferrari. I had a 9 ball (no kidding from sombody's dad's pool table) thrown through my front porch windows at 2:30 am the night after I detailed my car in the driveway. Lots of people walked up the driveway that day to admire, some kids too. Since then, I rarely bring it home from the storage facility where I keep my boat. The police thought it was just kids acting out their teenage angst, and probably had nothing to do with the car, but I was glad the car wasn't anywhere in sight.

I love these cars but some people just get pissed because I have one and they don't. No consideration given to the sacrifices it took to get one and the ongoing sacrifices to keep it and maintain it.

Another thing I wish I had never done was let people at my previous employer know I bought the car. It was as if, over night, people thought I was different. Maybe more frivolous with my money, maybe paid significantly more than them. But it was different and even my wife noticed it in people we had previously been friendly with. Nobody at my current company knows and I intend to keep it that way. It some cases, it seems professionally unacceptable or politically incorrect to own such a thing.

Anybody else have that kind of experience?

I havent had anything tossed though my window but I do get the "different" feel from people that now know I have a ferrari. I get it at work, the comments about me having one and how fortunate I am, blah blah blah. My neighbors sometimes make me feel uncomfortable. I just met our new neighbors last week that moved into the neighborhood, its winter here, several feet of snow so they dont know about the car yet. They seem nice and we chat regularly but when the summer comes Im wondering how that might change when I pull out of the garage.

I just changed mine because everytime I hear talk about filling in a profile, I get pissed off.
Like someone mentioned earlier, those who need to know you probably already do. If those others need to know where I live to find me credible, then well who needs em.
