Why isn't Gallardo selling?

Who fncken cares!. Spoken like a true Lambo attention seeker that obviously did not get enough love and attention from his parents.

Cars are about driving, not counting how many school kids (of all ages) prematurely ejaculate when you drive by.

I also not a fan of the F550, but not because of looks but because it weighs way too much and is way to large ... which compromises my beliefs in what a sports car should be about. That is one thing that impresses me with Porsches they are tiny in comparison ... and they win on the race tracks!

I would choose the car that talks to me the best and excites me from a pure driving enjoyment point of view. I could not give a flying fnck if the person behind me though the arse of the car looked bland or big, or whatever ... maybe I do not fit the mold of a supercar or exotic car owner because I actually enjoy driving, and would be just as happy roaring around a track in a home built spaceframed chassis club racer that is real fast and light, and does the job and probably would cost less that the carbon fibre door of a Lambo (?).

I wouldn't rush to elevate your NSX into Maranello company so quickly there, chief. The NSX is a nice looking car - for 1991. Back then I thought it was a Ferrari-esque Japanese car. Now I see it 13 years later and I realize it was just one of the first cars to go the way the Miatas, RX-7's, Supras and others were going. NSX's look really dated today, and there is a reason you can pick them up for cheap money.

I remember racing against a guy at our strip in his NSX. Not only was I amazed at how utterly slow it was (think 14's), but the guy paid around (a little over I think) $90k for it! It was a new NSX-T. I saw one a few weeks later at our local movie theatre. Looked Ok from a distance, and I talked to the owner (real young guy) on the way out. As we got closer, I saw how totally thrashed the car was. Tears in the seats, engine was ugly looking (and noticeably small) and the whole car just looked like it sat outside for 10 years. He said he got it for "under $20k" and that it looked much nicer when he first got it, but he daily drove it.

Just really brought me some perspective on the NSX. It's like the XJ220... one of those cars you really like until you learn more about them, then the dream is sort of crushed, like finding out the hot chick in the bar is really a dude or something.

 

Mako99 - did I miss a thread? Are you and Allen getting engaged - or just in love? Anyhow - either way congrats! You make a lovely couple. Just think of all the looks you will get - between your NSX and Ellens "lambo" Wow - impressive.

From your statement above you obviously crave attention and from Allen's 5,000 "I own a lambo - look at me" posts on every car forum except the lamborghini forum, he too craves the attention. A match made in heaven - right here on Ferrari chat.

And who cares about a car's "attention?" Oh - that's right - lambo owners and lambo owner groupies do. Best of luck with your new romance. (Aren't you the one that started a "to those who hate Allen thread?")

i'm under 40 and love the 550. my father had one and i scarded myself to death drviing that hot rod. wicked fast. 360's to me look japanese... not enough grace and beauty. and agree with some on this board - 355 was better looking.

i still think the boxer and 288 gto are the best looking street ferraris of the last 20 years.

 

Lambos ,late ones in particular ,are really nice cars.
What hurts them the most is their owners (majority) with their gold chains and perfect skills in counting grams and kilos.(must be a really good market in Maui)

I would think if you want attention - Lambo is at the top of the list.

 

Of course the Lambo gets attention. It awesome. No one pays attention to things that are dull and boring, hence Ferrari's place in society.

Hey Allan - you are getting better with the your and you're thing - almost had it right above - good job.

On Sunday I was at Las Brisas in Dana Point and there was this custom, tricked out low riding - woody. It was flash, bling bling and all - and had a lot of people crowded around it. Lot of attention - but not necessarily a great car. The best cars aren't necessaily the ones that get the most attention. The ones that get the most attention are typically the most out there, crazy styling unusual cars etc. Like a Countach in its day. We all know that the 512BBi was a far better car but it got probably got less attention from the uninformed public.

Just teasing - lets not rabbit trail into that debate all over again.

Anyway, for the others here with an IQ above the air temp in alaska, I mentioned the attention the cars get as a 3rd party reference towards their exterior designs, not for some sort of popularity contest at the gas pump. Meaning that the 550's design doesn't "do" it for a large segment of the auto-enthusiast crowd, while an 11-year old NSX design or the brand new Gallardo certainly would.

We now return you to your scheduled programming.

 

Makoambo - after lurking for years - didn't you jump in with your first post and jump on DES unprovoked while lionizing Allen?. I really did think I missed a thread where you and Allen hooked up. I saw how you rushed to defend him (and utilize LOL as often as he does) and assumed a love connection. If there is nothing physical between you two - then I apologize.

Anyhow - I have no retort to the "no-taste 550-owning a$$clown." I know you like attention getting cars like Allens lambo. He certainly got your attention so it worked. I like the Maranello - but to each his own.

First lambos get attention... thats bad. Than Ferraris get attention... thats good.... Ferrari's never break down.... when its shown they do, its ok..... Ferraris have mediocre performance... we bought our Ferrari for performance....

And yes, i post on several other forums. This being filled with the biggest bunch of hard headed babboons (like yourself) trying to convince yourself of your and your cars superiority. In all honesty, the Nsx board is pretty much the same, but not quite. Always making comparisons, Ferrari vs Lambo , Ferrari vs Porsche, Ferrari vs Gt40, and always putting down the other cars, while making excuses for your own when issues arise.

I dont sit and compare my car to an Enzo on Lambo-talk. Get a grip, Ferrari is middle of the road now. Far from superior in anyway.

 

Hey it's not my fault your 550 has plummeted by -50% in resale value over the last 18 months. I guess that's due to the stunning design of the car right? People are so in awe of its Supra-ness that it's price will soon match a Turbo Supra's.

For everyone else, don't put words in my mouth clowns. All I'm stating is that if someone drives their 550 down the street (minus shields so that people don't know wtf they're looking at) and someone drives a clean NSX (which they also have no idea about), gawkers will look more at the wedge-like NSX, and claim inaccurately that it's the faster car.

Now do the same with a nice TR, and the gawkers will claim that the TR is the faster, nicer car. The TR looks like a Ferrari. The NSX looks like a Ferrari. The 550 looks like a Supra.

That's going backwards for Ferrari, not going forwards when a TR looks more futuristic and more relevant than your latest 575M, lol.

As for the NSX, it's a nice run-about, no more, no less. It's better than a vette, or M3, in terms of driving excitement, but in no way is it as compelling as say any of the 90s F-cars or a Diablo for example. It's a great daily driver, and for $48K with 8k miles on it, my 3.2L '99 NSX will get beat into the absolute ground. I'll never sell it, it is the ultimate "grocery getter" as Allan describes his 355, lol.

It served its purpose well, which was to have some fun on the way to either a Stradale or a Gallardo later this year. But the NSX community is hilarious, they think it walks on water. Bunch of kids over there that own 100k+ mile 1991 $hitbox NSXs worth about $28k, with the anemic 3.0L engine and the archaic 5-speed.

Ferrari has it's "hey look at me" loud mouth car in the 360. It also has it's "hey look at me I'm a dumb ass for paying a million dollars for a car that can't out do a 10 year old Mclearn F1" car aswell.

But Ferrari also has it's more sutel line of cars as well, 550/575/456/612. The ferrari GT cars have never been real eye catchers. Just look at the 400,412 series of cars. They are ment for people who know what they have, and don't want to make a statement were ever they go.They are generaly marketed for an older more established person,who has already had all the flashy cars, but still wants something exciting to drive,but not have all the attention that goes along with it.

This is IMHO the reason the 550/575 is a wonderful design. It's
unmistakenly Ferrari,but it does not scream "look at me". The person on the side walk may or may not take notice of it,but if they do they will say "boy thats a beautiful car". I think that is the point of the 550/575 cars.

Lambo on the other hand has always and always will be knowen for outrageus cars. Lambo could never pull off a GT type of car. Mostly because this is not what people want from Lambo. They want the Miura's Countach's and Diablo's. This is what lambo is. Lambo never started out this way,but it is what it has been since the late sixties, A builder of crazy exotic sports cars. I think it would be a shame if they changed what they do.

Lambo is the ultimate loud mouth car but they changed the face of the high end sports car market forever with the Miura and again with the Countach. I don't think any other company has had such a porfound effect on the exotic car market like Lambo has. And if that is not a heratage and a history then I don't know what is.

Despite Maaco and Ellen's rants the 550 was a hot seller for many years. You couldn't walk in and buy one at sticker. You can with a Murci. The 360 still sells better than a Gayardo. Facts are facts, despite all the verbal insults.
