I must agreee with Rob here. The SPEED series Victory By Design has shown the fabulous racing histories of Ferrari (of course), Maserati, and Jaguar amongst others. The programs highlight how the build of racing cars has led to production versions in many cases. Unfortunately, the Lambos have no such racing pedigree yet, limiting their desirability. That said, I have yet to see a Gallardo on display at the SF dealer (they've had a black Murcie in there since before T'giving). On Sunday last I did see an owner driven Gallardo on the road for the first time in Marin, so they are not hanging around in this area. OT, the local BMW dealer has an Alpina Z8 (you know, the grandmother version w/ AT and the 540i commuter motor) on display with a $15k markup, or as they put it, "market adjustment", stickered out at $159k. Get real! Cheers
lol on the "Maaco", that was hilarious. Made me smile at the monitor. I'm not going to defend Gallardo sales, although I think you can't compare the 360 to it for numerous reasons: (Ferrari's artificial limited supply, Gallardo too new on the market while Ferrari has had a car in this segment for two decades, Not enough Lambo dealers, etc etc etc.) Basically anyone rational can see that you'd need a few more years of Lambo having a car in this sector to really be able to judge in a head to head comparison. But I am curious as to why people here angrily attacking the Gallardo as if it were stalking them, lol! Why wouldn't any F-car fan actually ROOT for its success? The better Lambo does in the marketplace, the faster Ferrari will improve their own models and that can't be a bad thing.
FWIW it looks like Symbolic has a good number of Gallardos on hand: Orange / Black demo car Nero Osyris / Black Giallo Midas / Grigio Phoenix Blue Caleum / Avorio Lilium Rosso Metis / Nero Perseus Silver / Nero Perseus
LOL, that's like the people here with Ferraris, buy hey, it IS a Ferrari site. It's intersting how the Europa group at Yahoo know exactly what that car is all about. Loads of fun to drive, loads of tinkering to keep it driving. No one there cares about Ferraris, Lamborghinis or NSX's. I wish the community here wasn't looking over their shoulders so much at the other marques. People like Alan make them feel like they have to justify their love of Ferraris, and he loves stirring the pot. I don't have to justify MY love of Ferraris, or my Lotus any more than Alan has to justify his love of Lamborghinis. Ken
Get off the crack. Instant the 550 came out, it sold for over sticker and instantly plummeted. Just like the Murci. Been there, done that.
Allan - sticking up for Mako Mako - sticking up for Allan 2,000 plus lambo spew posts on the Ferrarichat forum and someone finally was impressed. Love is in the air. How quaint. Not sure of the gay references, please point them out. - I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) from all of the fawning between you two that Mako was female and romance had blossomed. However, if Mako is a guy then good luck with that too. Interesting that you now seem to have appointed yourself the ambassador of F-chat ... "Dont worry, Fchat will still accept you, and youve already got the ultimate ride for your lifestyle." I am not gay but I would assume Fchat would accept gay members. To me the overarching factor is Ferraris - not sexual preferences. So you think the Maranello is a car for gays? You are clearly the biggest troll on this forum. 5,000 posts a year on over half a dozen non Lamborghini forums - and over 90% of them are the "look at me - I have a Lambo and it is better that your car." Your tale is tired, turn the page. We know you have a "lambo" - congratulations, it is a nice car. Why not post all about it on the Lamborghini forum?
It's an option, and it usually comes from the factory with matching yellow stiching throughout the interior. Not my preference, I'll take a blue/black or a silver/black, no colored calipers/stiching.
decided to stop wading through the 19 pages of mostly lambo bashing to give you my opinion, fwiw. i have seen the gallardo several times. it has a shape not everybody will like. it is also not a ferrari. so despite being in every way a better car than the 360 (or even the 575 for that matter), it will garner less of audience. the average guy with $200k burning a hole in his pocket, probably doesn't know that much about cars etc. but he is smart enough to have that money, so he knows icons, resale value, what will impress the wife/girl/neighbor etc. i very much doubt that more than 20% of the US population knows what a lambo is, let alone identify one in the street (admittedly, ferrari figures here may only be double this). also, lambo needs to make something that is extraordinary in a weird way to overcome their 'not-ferrari-ness', and the murci does that with the v12 in the back and funky doors and the outrageous colors. the gallardo is just too plain looking - frankly the 360 looks more exotic! so any motorhead with the money and inclination to buy the best non-12 cylinder exoticsports car out there will take the gallardo. everybody else is getting their checks out for a ferrari of some kind. the good thing is maybe gallardo prices will be nice and low someday.....
Mike, surely that can't be Allan's sole motive? What's the big deal about owning a Lamborghini anyway? Am I missing something here? Someone please explain.. From reading Allan's posts, I think he just gets irritated about F-drivers thinking that their cars are something they are not. This is a symptom that is often displayed by Lotus Elise drivers also. I don't think Allan is the insecure type that needs everyone to know that he owns a Lamborghini. Allan, are you that shallow? Surely not. He is just making the point that some of you guys are just too taken aback by the brand. You have no objectivity left. You are in awe when maybe you sometimes shouldn't be. Please remember that I say "some of you" and "maybe" before attacking me back. For the record I am a true car entusiast with no particular brand loyalty.
Actually this looking over their shoulders questions are very pertinent to this forum. Why?, Ferrari is still selling new cars and many posters are still buying new Ferraris (why?, I cannot understand, but I guess somebody has to buy the new ones ). Thus it is a very relevant discussion to talk about the competitors, just as the NSX guys will be doing regarding the new NSX. The Europa forum will be made up of people who have already realised that old cars are more interesting and thus will not be interested in what the new car market has to offer. If I had the money to buy either a F360 of the new baby Lambo, there is absolutely no way in the world I would purchase one, when you could be looking at 365GTB/4s, 365BBs maybe even 275GTBs, or many classic Lambos ... but each to their own. The fact is that many new F360 buyers will be buying them for the look at me I have a BRAND new Ferrari feeling just like the Lambo crowd with all their models Pete
I completely disagree. When I buy a 360 it will have nothing to do with look at me. In fact part of what I dont like about the 360 or any kinda exotic looking car is the attention - that's the least desireable part of ownership IMO. You said each to his own. You like older cars - I respect that. I like newer cars - you should respect that. Dont come down here and make broad generalizations and pre-judge 360 buyers. You're clearly not qualified to do that.
Gee I did not say ALL F360 owners/buyers. Heh that would be why I would by a brand new Ferrari. That thrill of going to the dealership to pick up a brand new car, that first drive home ... you don't get that buying secondhand cars. Anyway the looking around at what is on the new car market and comparing them is very relevant ... er, well I think it is, but guess I am not qualified to say that . Damn that free speech BS ... damn! Pete
You can say whatever you want - you just come across as very judgemental. Sweeping generalizations and all.
Whatever ... all I was saying is that comparing the new Ferraris to the competition is relevant and some will buy for similar reasons. Sweeping generalisations are what this thread is all about, in fact it started with one, ie. why is the Gallardo not selling. Pete ps: Starting to feel sorry for Allan ...
PSK, The guy that owns that 250LM in your avatar is a local collector. Maybe I should go tell him he made a mistake buying his Enzo brand new.
lol, if you want to . Guess he will have the best of both worlds once it is delivered ... lucky man. I think it is interesting that some of us prefer the say 360 over a say 365BB (just examples, don't get your knickers in a twist ), shows a few possible things: 1. Some do prefer the new cars. This could have to do with technology, reliability, etc. or simply that some see new as simply better. 2. Not all of Ferrari enthusiasts are fond of the old stuff. This probably varies depending on the age of the person, and naturally the age of the car. 3. Not all Ferrari enthusiasts are even interested in Ferrari's history. This leads very strongly into Allan's point about the irrelevance or relevance of this racing heritage. Maybe I should start a new thread ... Anyway I respect that we are all different, and that a man who has (just about) everything automotive wise (er, well atleast my favourite car) may also want to get an Enzo, would have an interesting comparison article. Pete
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha *wheeze* Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
He is just making the point that some of you guys are just too taken aback by the brand. You have no objectivity left. You are in awe when maybe you sometimes shouldn't be. I believe the term is "homer"
