Just got me thinking as i was looking at this picture of a 348 cam cover. The 355 does not have any cylinder number markings, why? Just wondering was there a specific reason why not. I know, i know its an anorak question but i was wondering:)

here's another riddle, the 308 covers are both labled 1~4 but are not interchangeable. if they are going to the trouble of having the number cast, why not continue with the 5~8?

Only Poofters need to be told which cylinder is which.

    Real men know.

Because for the purposes of the ignition system the way they do it is correct.

In the ignition sys there is no 5-8

Its worth at least 50HP without the numbers. This is a scientific fact according to my mate down the pub ;)...

Now bear in mind i don't have the stock dizzies but... the flywheel is marked PM 5~8, the WSM also shows 5~8 and the cylinders are ofcourse numbered 1~8. heck even the firing order counts out 1 3 5 7 4 8 2 6.

so now my curosity is peaked, where is it not used? how does the ignition system only use 1~4? i understand that technicaly it's two separate systems, is that the reference?

I think it's like having two 4 cylinder motor each bank are timed independently this is why I think it has two distributor, but I may be wrong.

Cos the 355 was made for Girls and Girls would never need to know where the leads need to go.
