Well if you read what he said this weekend (I believe at the top of this page), Kimi says that he's dissappointed that even though he pushed every single lap like a qualifying lap, he still finishes behind the brawns by such a margin. So the car is inferior and he pushed every single lap. There you go.
Alonso is the best driver on the grid right now, Ferrari would be crazy not to take him if he was available. Pete
Why? Because he consistently beat that ocean of talent, Piquet Jr.? Hamilton, for one thing, beat him in equal -and good- cars a couple of years ago. Lately when both cars started out sucking, Lewis has climbed back to the winning battles whereas Alonso has remained a solid also-ran. There is no way to rationally argue that Alonso is better than Hamilton at this point in time, at least if measured by driving talent. Ability to bring in sponsorship $$$ could be a different story as Alonso has a rich sugar daddy in Santander.
It's interesting that you defend Kimi in another thread stating that Ferrari was developing the car for Massa and not him, then you go out and say that Hamilton was better than Alonso in an equal car when it's known that McLaren caters to the wishes of Hamilton over the "other" driver (as said by both Alonso and Heikki now). We'll just ignore the fact that no driver out-scored Alonso in terms of points for the last half of last season too. The same car that struggled to get into Q3 was all of the sudden winning and taking podium spots. That doesn't happen by pure luck. It's hard to use this year as a comparison since testing is out of the window. The Renault car this year is crap. I think Hamilton is helping the McLaren get better. He's a great driver who is still learning so there's no reason why he wouldn't be. He's good stuff and I think he'll only get better. Either way I suppose it's an agree to disagree type of discussion. I think Kimi is a great driver, but time and time again he makes it seem like his heart isn't in the right place. I think that holds him back.
Ok ish post However I wouldn't assume LH was given any better treatment at his first year at Mclaren. HK is bobbins as proved with his last race he had a great chance to prove himself qualified in a great position with his fuel load he was sitting pretty ..what happened you tell me!!. So given that what would you expect HK to say. IMO RD let his drivers race hence they lost the title that year.
None of us are on the inside, so we can only speculate. I'd say that two drivers complaining of the same thing add a little fuel to that fire though. I agree that McLaren lost the title that year due to not defining who the #1 was. That year definitely wasn't a bright spot for McLaren.
Fair enough, Alonso didn't fit the Mclaren way he was a 2 x WDC and he felt he needed to be treated like one, whether thats right or wrong it's up to the team. Flav pampers his needs look where thats got him.. LH caught every one by surpise how quick he was out the box, FA included.
Alonso indeed scored the most points in pt 2 last season. He had 3 more than Massa, who lost out on 20 thanks to the singapore incident and a car blowing up with 2 laps to go...And never mind that Alonso needed his teammate to crash for him to get a win. As for the last bit. Kimi has said plenty of times he's happy with Ferrari because he can do as he likes. Ron Dennis didn't allow him to do the stuff he likes to do in his free time, hence he used the James Hunt alias when entering different competitions.
That may, just possibly, be true this season (and you might ask "why not?" since he's the world champion. More than a few posters here believe that when Alonso and LH were team mates FA should have been preferred because at that time he was the world champion) but I very much doubt that it was the case back then. There must be a million posts on here extolling the virtues of Alonso as a great developer of cars and suggesting he was responsible for making the McLaren a winner. Well, if that's true he certainly wasn't developing a car to suit LH's driving style, so I'd say if they were in equal cars they were equal in FA's favour.
Anybody that thinks McLaren allow their drivers to race with equal machinery obviously is new to F1 and did not watch the Senna versus Prost battles where Senna was the favoured son, and Prost still won the WDC, and also did not watch Coulthard getting constantly shafted by his team in favour of Hakinen who had to be gifted his first race win to get him competitive. LH was the chosen BRITISH son and Ron Dennis's prodigie. Right from the go McLaren never treated Alonso like a WDC and effectively resented his presence in the team. Even if they for the first time did treate them equal that is plain crazy ... Alonso had already proven himself, LH hadn't. Some drivers simply don't fit in with other teams, Senna just looked completely wrong at Williams and unfortunately he never got the chance to get out of that team and go back to McLaren, etc. Alonso is the better driver than LH simply because he has more experience. And not Webber experience but competitive up the sharp end competing against MS experience. LH was lucky to arrive in F1 when everybody else was not at their peak, Alonso in a new unloved team, Kimi in a new team and of course Massa being Massa just a little bit better than average. If LH had arrived in F1 a few years earlier he would have looked a lot less awesome ... but then timing is everything . MS/Ferrari used that to their advantage too. Pete
True.back to the LH-Alonso argument,to say thet were treated even similar is just wrong.LH WAS THE FAVORITE.If you look at 07 season reviews, there's alot of behind the scenes stuff that can defend Alonso.I will watch it again so I can elaborate.
