Why no lifts?

Looking at these pictures -- why do the professional race shops have no lifts in their facilities?

It all seems to be jack-stand based?

It's likely due to the fact that racing cars don't have traditional hard points as on a road going
car to support their weight as on a lift.

If they used lifts, they'd likely need to be customized and it's probably just easier to use
jack stands.

They do not have lifts at the track, might as well have a similar environment in the ship.

 

I have seen at least one independent mechanic who does a lot of work with only jackstands -- I was actually wondering how necessary an actual lift really is..

 

Heck not to mention how costly it would be to put lifts at every car bay in such a huge shop with the amount of cars in these shops.

 

Oh yes, imagine the financial impact to these budget conscious NASCAR teams.

I think this is the right answer.

 

All sarcasm aside why do you think don't they have lifts? While building the car the teams could easily build reinforced lift points and do you honestly think this idea has not been kicked around for decades in NASCAR?

 

If you google 'racing team garage' and look at the pictures that come up it's not only NASCAR that doesn't use them; most places do not.

Is it really to match what happens at the track and get used to the same environment?

 

I have a shop at the race track and I have a 2-post asymmetric lift and rarely use it on the true race cars (it is handy for a spec Miata, but that is street car based).

Reason: The race cars are just too low to get the arms under them. Most race cars have very low ground clearance, especially open wheel and sports racers, and it is just easier to use a quick jack or air jacks to get them off the ground.

Also, any well-designed race car is also designed for routine maintenance to be done without fancy lifts.
