I was just curious with all the threads here about Zondas, Koenigseggs, F1s, S7s, Carrera GTs, Ultima GTRs, etc....... Not much at all is mentioned about the Mosler. I've seen them campaigned in race series and they do quite well. They are very much like the Saleen S7s in that they use an American engine, a Chevy in this case, and wrap an exotic body around it. And then go racing and sell some street cars. Has no one had any experience with these cars?
2 things. Racing/winning doesn't sell cars anymore. Exotic body? Not quite. It is a race car, not a street car. Nowadays, supercars have become useable, much more than 10 years ago, I guess. I'm sure anyone could hop in an Enzo, and drive 1k miles under the rain without killing themselves. Try to do that in an F40. And this is personal here, but you hardly reach supercar level with a V8. Especially with no turbos. "Pushrod big-block" doesn't sound supercar in my books.
Give me a break! You base a supercar on how many cylinders it has and the "sound". So an AC Cobra, Chapperal's, GT-40's, early McLarens, and Vipers aren't worthy of your "supercar" title? It sounds like to me that you are believing your own BS. So a Mosler doesn't qualify as an exotic? How many Italian cars come optional with a Hewland sequential racing tranny and diff, and can pull over 1G on a skidpad with street tires? The car is made out of carbon fiber and weighs in at just over 2,000 pounds and costs much less than a 360. In all categories of performance it will kick some serious butt. Top speed is over 200 mph. That car is more than capable of handing many exotics their lunch. You want to penalize a car company's image because it gets better performance from a non-turbocharged motor pushrod? You sound like the idiots that cried when the Vipers went undefeated in over 3 seasons of Le Mans... and could only compete when the Vipers were regulated out of the series. What are you going to say if Ford decides to come back with the GT and a V-10 to Le Mans and to the street to spank the euro's rearends? This is the kind of talk that turns people off about Ferrari and exotic car owners (Viper owners included). Get real and come off your high horse. The reason why the Mosler (and Vipers) are rarely invited to these comparison tests is because they don't pay the huge advertising budgets that the other car manufacturers do. They are also afraid that cars like this will embarass the one's who pay for the articles to be written. If you get your info from the car rags, then I feel very sorry for you. You are the reason why those things are around spewing their garbage. Car magazines are nothing but high paid advertising for the manufacturers.
I think the Mosler is a beauty but the interior is very "Kit Car" Its nowhere near the quality level of a saleen, let alone a Ferrari or Aston MArtin in the details thats why its not taken seriously. Although I grant it is a seriously fast car. Mayeb when I get my place in Europe I'll park the latest Mosler in the garage to wave the flag
Wow ... I am no God, this was just my opinion, and I am the only one entitled to it!! I sure didn't want to offend you in any way, but the Mosler is no exotic car to me. Of course, it's very fast, and is a great value, but it doesn't rank with a McLaren or Pagani or Enzo when it comes to "completeness" (fit and finish, dealership support, comfort ...etc). I know I'm very picky when it comes to calling a car a supercar or exotic. Being fast isn't enough.
