Anyone know why one cannot spec the lighter titanium wheel bolts on the cheaper forged rims?

(Ive decided in the larger and heavier "Hot Wheels Look" rims with the titanium bolts.

Was wondering if one could buy aftermarket titanium Ferrari wheel bolts which would fit the 12 Cilindri smaller forged rims?

My speculation is that titanium is known as one of the galling metals. Some dissimilar metals when used in thread and compression applications will tear each other up (known as galling). Aside from lubrication, titanium is typically used with itself to prevent galling when joining parts. Perhaps the higher level trims utilize titanium studs, etc. and therefore cost more? Just my 2-cents.

In addition to galling, dissimilar metals in contact can create a battery- literally causing corrosion at the interface. Titanium is also more flexible than steel, threads can literally cold weld to each other if enough force is applied. Finally titanium is notch sensitive- scratches can lead to crack propagation.
Despite these issues titanium is stronger than steel and lighter so for the right application it’s a win win. Unless the wheels are titanium and the bolts thread into titanium sleeves I would stay away. There is little if any benefit and a lot of cost

Titanium is not stronger than steel. Its lighter than steel and stronger than aluminum. Steel is stronger and heavier.

Ferrari has been selling the titanium lug bolts for a decade on many of their line-up.
I don’t think that fractured bolts have been much of an issue. Hopefully the service technicians use torque wrenches with the proper settings .
At least that is one of the reasons I do new tires at my dealer rather than a tire shop.

I should have prefaced titanium weight for weight is stronger than steel. Steel has a higher tensile strength

Titanium is also used for Ferrari exhaust tips. I did this on the 458 s and have selected this for the 12C

Titanium must have good heat properties as the tips are thinner and more elegntly shaped than the standard tips.

Wonder about the pros and cons of titanium suspension components such as springs and wishbones?

One of the top secret facts about the SR-71 was that much of the structure was made out of titanium
The material could withstand the heat generated by the extreme

speeds. A normal aluminum metal would have literally melted. Aluminum was used beneath the titanium external shell.

The USA used the plane to spy on Russia. We got the titanium from Russia thru the use of shell companies !

Plane was built in less than 2 years!

I think the Pista wheels and the TDF wheels are not titanium, and those have Ti bolts, so I think they are fine to use together

Because they want to sell the more expensive forged rims where you can add the titanium bolts.

The titanium bolts are subject to supply shortages and so priority is given to the more limited and more expensive and slightly heavier larger wheel. Fair is fair
