I have seen people snapping several pictures of a single car making sure they capture every possible angle and some angles are just plain rediculous,so why do they do it ? I mean we all like cars and regardless of how rare a car is including 288 GTO,Enzo,Daytona,CGT to name few,i still can't see myself taking 40 pictures of any car, looks too cheap IMHO.So what do you all think ?

I think maybe you ain't got da passion!

    J/K

I don't really think it is a big deal to try to capture a car's every detail. That is the beauty of some cars. Sometimes I find something new that I like about a car that I have seen for years. I don't take hundreds of pics of every car I like, but I know that I sure have looked at TENS OF THOUSANDS of pictures online. So what is the difference?

Oh yeah, this is coming from a guy who looks at Ebay on almost a daily basis just to check out all of the different Ferrari pics. I know, pathetic.:D

As a pro photographer, I shot this car from every angle but never satisfied myself. The best angle was every angle. But one was better.

Actually, i think that sums it up rather nicely... :)

Yasir, when looking through pictures you've taken of a car, it's always possible to see details of the car you've not seen before... Also, maybe you like one angle better than another, but when you look at the pictures, you realize some other angle was the best... Some of us just can't get enough...

Click here for a thread of angled shots... Click here for another...

I agree with yasir. Overkill. Were it a "lesser" car, it'd be "why all the pictures?" Whether it is informative for diagnostic purposes, pride and joy or much deserved "iconic" status, post the best for a particular vehicle and you'll have folks salivating for more. It is as easy to turn Photography into an unimpressive presentation as it is to impress with art.

In a way, it reminds me of John Davidson when he'd sing on the Tonight Show as a guest host. He'd sing 3 songs and the audience gave him tepid applause on the third song. Took years for him to figure out that he needed to stop at 2.

Regardless of quality vs. quantity personal viewpoint - as for posting pics on threads - please, I beg of you - just post 4 per line - if need be - 8 max. Computers and Browsers can only browse or compute "so much" to perfection. Though it is most appreciated to have the opportunity to view pics, 40 quality pics on a line is too many, as there's a lot more going on behind the scenes to make a picture magically appear with all it's colors in the proper place, let alone - several MB on one line without reducing any given Browser to stunted growth. Though I use DSL, I believe it's also considerate for those who are on dialup, who otherwise will either not want to wait or for whatever reason - be able to see pics someone has gone through the trouble of taking/transferring and posting. To paraphrase, many threads have lots of quality pics with lots of quality cars - which deserve to be presented in their full glory.

I have the same car enthusiasm as you all do other wise i won't be here. However i just can't see myself going to the local Porsche dealer asking them when their CGT delivery as i would like to come over and take 30 picts of it.I usually look at the car from all the angles and then capture few rather then snapping 40 picts and then keeping few, does that sound right ?
    f355b,
Yes thats very normal nothing to worry about.

I always thought this was normal. Why, what have you read?

Venusone - back before digital, I would shoot off a whole roll on two, perhaps three cars at a Concours. I was soooo happy when the digital cameras came of age. I didn't have to cart all that 35mm rolls around on golf courses anymore! :D I hated having to hunt for a spot to change rolls while not getting any dirt into my SLR.

p/s congrats on the 328, she looks beautiful!

Yasir, some of us are camera/photography enthusiasts as well. You can't understand why some people take photos of the same car from all angles unless you're a camera/photography fan.

As you said you are a car fan, now that's the reason you can't understand.

Digital Nikon D1 or Nikon 6006 film I snap as many shots as I can, bracketing like crazy until I annoy the subject completely. Always looking for the “Time/Life” moment.

If I ever saw a real live GTO or LM I'd take pics until I ran out of film or bytes or money or strength.

Well, now that it's all free with the advent of digital photography, there's no reason not to take lots of shots. You can weed out the bad ones and hopefully you will have gotten at least a few good ones. And, you might need to look something up later, so it's good to have a few of the outside panels, interiors, engine compartments, etc.

I agree that it would be crass to post tons of pictures of the same subject on f-chat. Unless we are in the bikini thread. But, if it's your website and bandwidth and effort, it's entirely up to you.

Digital camera, my friend. I can take 400 shots, and keep the 5 I like best. I'm not that good at shooting, so I just take a bunch, and keep some. I actually keep them all, just enhance a couple.

some cars, and to be more specific, the DETAILS of certain lines, trim, ect are more evident when seen in a diffferent light. the lighting itself may show or reveal a new detail you have never noticed on that year or model before. when it comes to buying / collecting and playing with certain cars, the pics educate your subconcious into whats " right". i just looked at a " faked " , " special " muscle car an hour ago. car was crap, they guy was too, and he could tell i knew what i was doing by what i looked at and what i looked for. i learned that that from many, many pics of cars i chose to play with. i have pics of my 308 , including the undersides, inside the timing covers ect ect. knowledge is power. and when $ is at stake ya better know what you are doing!

I have several timeless picts of my 31 month old daughter & 18 month old son and all of them were taken spontaneously usually in a continous mode taking atleast 5-7 picts hoping i'll get one picture that will capture the kids in their usual selves.
Taking several picts of a moving object is understandable but taking several pictures of a stationary object just makes no sense.I mean you can take all your time looking at a car and then take few picts that you think describes the car/object perfectly rather then taking 50 picts and keeping one.
In my opinion if you have to take several picts of a car to get one good shot then you probably don't have a photographers eye.

Because the opportunity for me to see these cars is rare (see location). I do not see them driving around like everyone else here, nor do I live in a ritzy neighborhood full of 355's and Maybach's and Rolls Royce's. So when I see them, I take a lot of pictures. To remember, to reminisce, to ponder, to show my friends (who actually haven't seen near as many as I have). I enjoy picking them up and studying them.

I have taken hundreds of pictures of my F-cars from all kinds of angles using lenses of various focal length with both film and digital cameras. After the first 30 or so, yes they all start to look similar, but that's not the point.

Photography is one of my interests. So I consider it a challenge to capture a detail, a curve, or a perspective on something I have photographed many times before. And I learn something from it. This also gives me greater appreciation of the immense talent required to design such beautiful curves around the functional mechanical bits of the car.
