this will become the easiest way to hack registered email accounts for anything forums, banks, facebook, etc. some will be harder than others, but many times online access is just a matter of asking for new password using the email. When the person still owned that email address it was fine, but now hackers will pick up those emails and search internet for matches (someone posting their email in past) and then request a password reminder.

I'm trying to think of ways to block this type of hack and can't. If they know you used site because you posted your email, then they will also see your username. Banks have a personal secret question which the hackers won't know or even some you have to actually call in and give a list of personal info. casual sites like forums don't have that extra level of security.

however, what is worse that can happen? at least on FerrariChat there is no financial or any personal info on your account that you haven't already made public in your profile. all financial information goes through 3rd parties for cc and paypal, so that isn't related and can't be retrieved by me anyway. So worse that can happen someone just starts posting as you when not.

There are all sorts of things that could be done. Just wait for the first guy who grabs his ex wife's email address and starts posting terrorist threats on a forum.
