why are there so few good 328's for sale if they made so many? Seems whenever I look in Dupont, hemmings, even ferrarichat, the selection is not great compared to other models. any thoughts??

I agree with Dave but I also happen to know that many cars are in limbo in the hopes the market prices get stronger.

Also if you are shopping it is a real mistake to concentrate on the published ads. Most of these cars change ownership without ever being advertised, especially the good ones. They go through brokers or some other sales venue. People are on a list of people looking for a particular model and when the broker (or salesperson) gets a call from a seller he gets to work on the phone. The best cars and best deals go down that way.

The 328 is a great car. well built, and one of the best looking around!

And when you look at it there were less than 10,000 total - all models made. far less than the 360 -430 models.

That is the same reason I think my 308QV will be more valuable moving forward. Didn't buy it for that, but only 3042 QV's were ever produced. By the time I am done with mine it will be a top flight car (in about three-five years) and when I croak off and my daughter sells it she will do just fine. :)

As far as the 328, if people really are putting them away as investments, that is a shame. Drive them man, drive them.

hey fellows...hope all is well with you ...i have had my 89 328 for 11 years,,,i have often thought about moving up to a 355,,,i bought my car with 20k miles,,,and now have 87k,,i have kept my car maintained and serviced to where it needs nothing,,,no expense was spared,,and i have the trouble free miles to attest to that,,,all i have heard about the 355 has been the problems,,,valve guides,,,,exhaust manifold,,,,,interior,,,i have spoken to a few mechanics about the need to get a ppi,,before buying,,,which i agree with,,,i have also heard that the 98 and 99 s,,,have newer electronics,,,...now im sure there is a lot of info on this site reguarding the 355s ,,,i havent had a chance to really look through the threads,, im thinking for all the extra money its going to cost to buy one,,and service it,,,i could keep my car...and when the engine needs to be rebuilt,,,get it done,,,and maybe go with the carabou eng 3.5 liter upgrade,,our 328 s have a timeless design,,and will never go out of style....and they are so much more reliable than the newer v 8 s...so maybe thats why a lot of folks are keeping theirs.,.,.to this day i cant stop looking at the car and sitting in it while its parked in the garage,,,,lol....

Well...we're also heading into winter. I thought there were a crap-load of them over the spring and summer. And there are currently some seemingly nice ones for sale, such as the one for sale at Forza Motorsports.

The "average, good quality" 328 is never going to be an investment car, as they just made too many of them. You might get the occasional "time capsule" car that will appreciate a bit in value but, as a whole, drive them and don't think investment.

Made so many?? Well, numbers are relative. It's not like Ferrari built 100,000 of them. Compared to other "production" cars, the numbers are relatively small. And it seems to me that many enthusiasts who own a 328 tend to hold on to them. I also think that there is a bit of "it's a down market, not a great time to sell" holding back some potential sellers as well. So, those factors combined, you won't see lots of them on the market.

And as noted, lots of the good ones won't be on Hemmings or AutoTrader or even F-chat. So you have to look at other potential sources. Wade mentioned that he has a couple of great examples. But remember, price will be relative too, and the nicer the car and the better cared for the car, the higher the price.

    Everything IS relative.

I would agree that the best ones are not going to be listed. I bought mine based an a private recommendation in '08 and I received 2 private offers to buy it (both for more than I paid for it) last summer. So I agree that the nicest cars aren't going to be sitting around on ebay or whatever.

I have spoken to quite a few former 328 owners, and to a man / woman they have all said that they regretted letting it go, and would love to have another one.

Perhaps a few more of the current owners are hanging on to theirs and adding another car rather than replacing.

I hope I never have to sell mine. When it comes time for a restoration, I plan on it being a father-son bonding experience.

If anything, I'd like to add another model Ferrari to keep it company.

    Thanks Wade....

So, to the OP: "Go get one"....

If Wade says it's a good car, it's a good car!

I think Brian's spot on........the FCA Newsletter is a good place to look, too.

But I think most 328 owners are holding on to them, instead of selling into terrible market conditions...

So how does one get on the list? I am assuming there is a pipeline for originally owned well serviced cars since they have perhaps been to the same shop 7-20 times since new.

This car HORRID....HORRID....You need to dump it quick and buy that 355.

PM me when ready to do so. As a member of this society I will take it off your hands just so you aren't stuck with it in your garage. This a service I offer to you only! Who in their right mind would want a white ferrari in their garage sheesh :)

I think with almost all Ferrari models people aren't willing to part with them now because a lot of them have lost a large percentage of the original purchase price. Why dump a car if you love it and it's lost 30% off the top. Keep it in the garage and maybe add another instead of dumping and adding.

Not many cars in Hono so you will be shopping in the mainland. Personally I would stay west of the Rockies but looking into Wades cars isn't a bad idea. Get in touch with some of the sellers on the West Coast and let them know you are looking. Be patient, time is on your side and don't settle. Also get the very best car you can afford, you can never save you way into a good deal.

PM DRCHAKO here. Has has one available.

There is a "12 Steps to Ferrari Ownership Thread" somewhere in my mind.... I think I am somewhere around number 8-9

I'm on my second 328 after selling my first one five years ago. This one is in much better original condition, lower miles, better history and in my favored color combo. I may sell only for financial reasons - fund raising for a higher priority personal/business project or a factory F race car. I wouldn't be surprised if this car turns out to be my last street Ferrari...
