I've noticed a fair number of posts (certainly from the UK) about people looking for 348's. I bought a 348 Spider myself a week ago. I'm just curious about why the apparent surge in interest? My own reasons for wanting one were that I prefer classic Ferrari looks to the more generic modern models. I think the 308/328 are the more beautiful shape.....but: 1/ I associate the Testarossa design with Ferrari more than any other, and think it stands out more as a Ferrari (other than the obvious F40/50/60). 2/ I adore the Spiders. (Perhaps because of playing too much Outrun in my youth!) The 348 Spider is especially stunning. 3/ The 348's are more unique as a shape in the Ferrari model range than many other models. The Spiders more so, especially in the UK. 4/ The 348's lack of power steering and somewhat basic driving feel really appeals to the Lotus nut in me. Anyway, those were my reasons. What do others think? Jas
I think its becourse if you squint form a distance and make your eyes go blurry, the 348 looks alot like the 355 To answer the question Jaz
Jas, 348 prices (especally RHD) do seem to have dropped a bit in the last 12 months with quite a few examples offered at the £25k mark. IMO at this price a lot of people are thinking 'I might just be able to afford one'. It may also be fair to say that the 348 is the first of the 'modern' ferrari's were the 328 was the last of the classic ferrari's?. Just my thoughts Good Luck Julian.
We're buying a 348 this weekend (with a bit of luck) because they look superb for a starter....we did think about a 328 but wife preferred the 348,(lucky for me) and for a few grand more we could have the 348...so why not i say..plusif they stay popular then price might even go up!! now there's a thought
I like how they look, and I like the lack of power steering. The 348 body style is fairly unique and I don't think I'll ever get tired of looking at it. It was also the poster car on the wall of my bedroom when I was a kid, I've always said that I would own one someday.
From our point of view, the 308/328 did look nice but a bit dated against the 348, but the 355 looks very similar to a 348 anyway, and the 360's have got that 'not quite right' look about them (well i think so!) It could well be that in the next couple of years the 348 will be the most saught after 'classic' ferrari.
IMHO, the demand for 348's in the UK is simple, there a cheap(ish) way to get a modern(ish) Ferrari that looks and goes like a Ferrari, before I get flamed to death, 400/412 308 and Mondial are all great cars and I have had at least one of each, they are however now getting in Classic Car levels of performance (ie beaten by most well driven Impreza etc, hell a clio sport will give a Mondial a big run for the same money) At £17.5k-£38k a 348 is a lot of car for 328 money and alot of the people who lusted after them in 1990 can now afford them, the real performance bargain in the UK Ferrari world is the 3.4 Mondial.........
....been looking at Ferrari's for a while...nearly went TESTEROSSA...but its too tight a squeeze in the garage.....plus the interior was dreadful!...So it came down to the 355...then i thought...too much money.....so 348 here i come and hopefully silver, only so i can turn up to a Ferrari meet and be the only non red car there LOL! Never even considered the 328 too old looking for me. I agree their is scope for the 348 to be the future Ferrari to have..still looks a 2000 shape to me.
Let's see.....pass up the 348 below to pay another $35K for...a 355??? NOT! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Your right Benzino, they do look a 2000' car, we stared looking at a red, then blue, then silver and now we're hopefully getting the red....shame really, I sort of liked the blue, but the interior was very very shabby and the car had more owners that its years!!!
Good point, well spoted. Well husker i have a spare rear 355 panel if you want to go a bit further in your 348 to 355 conversion
"Oh i see you live in Kent, i am sure Jaz will let me know were" ....if he knows where i live that would make him yet another stalker
I think Chaa is converting his 355 to a 348, hence the spare rear panel and his frequent postings in the Classics section.
Hey i belong here, now that the F430 is here the 355s should have been moved to here to the classic section, so.......i am the first So now i am looking for a set of them trick 348 side vents
I have had alot of Ferraris since the 80's, everything from a Mondial through an F40, and the 348 has stayed around for 15 years now. I do miss the F40, but the 348 has been great. I think that the newer cars are pretty bland. The only one that even peaks my interest is the CS.
348's are where it is at, especially the spider's fellas. 1090 made in the world. The first two seat convertible since the Daytona spider. Great looks, nice power, and no electronic jazz like the new ones to break. No doubt others are catching on to the 348 wave, the most misunderstood and underated of the "Modern Ferrari's" I have not heard of any 15K service bills for the 348 unlike the 355's. I see the 348 Spider coming into the light in the future and being a very desirable car and the prices will only rise. Get yours while the getting is good.
