Why VW needs to dump Lamborghni NOW...

    Because VW ignored Tesla too long. They dismissed Elon Musk as a crackpot, a PT Barnum (and he is admittedly a showman) But now Tesla is selling well in Europe, while VW is only just starting to sell electric cars. VW plans to make as many as 50 different electric models but is starting years behind Tesla, which means they have to have crash programs to catch up.
    And they paid billions in reparations to countries that took umbrage when they lied about Diesel emissions.
    So the handiest way to come up with millions for developing electric cars (maybe they can't get billions) , is to dump their luxury brands like Lamborghini , Bugatti and Ducati.
    With what looks like a wholesale move of the industry toward electric, the Lambo 12 cylinder and V8 are dead ducks, true they make the cars sound like snarling beasts but even Ferrari announced no more of their cars will be designed by them without at least being hybrid. Lambo is like an exciting thoroughbred race horse but right now they need workday horses that can pull a plow in essence, do ordinary horse jobs not preening race horses. Plus McLaren taking a chunk of Lamborghini's market hurt them. Too many exotics in a too small a market.
    Maybe VW could switch Lamborghini over to hybrids first and go full electric later but it's more important for the firm's survival to get mass market VW electric cars out there in quantity world wide. Their target is 2025. As on Jan. 1st that will be just 48 months away
    And, as for Bugatti--buying that marque was just indulging a whim by a former chairman and it always lost money. They only sold 82 cars last year. They have no reason to live. Ducati is a sophisticated brand but too far afield from cars. No crossover in technology to meet the new challenge, Bentley, there's one worth saving. they've always been the silent marque. why not an electric Bentley?
    As an enthusiast, I will miss Lamborghini. Unless a buyer has enough money to re-do the line, it could die as a marque. But right now it's excess baggage on the VW ship.

    Mclaren are hurting a whole lot more than Lamborghini, no SUV, selling your HQ.....

    I give it 5-10 years and MB and VW will put Tesla on the trailer. My hope is that Porsche and others’ investments in biofuels will save IC engines, at least for those who can afford to pay to play. The hope is that niche manufacturers can still offer IC engines, similar to how people pay extra for mechanical movements in watches.

    Future of Lamborghini (and Ducati) has been made clear, for the time being they stay with Volkswagen.

    There were rumors of the sale. But 2020 was best Lambo sales ever.

    Urus (biggest mover) is wholly a VAG product (Q7/Bentayga/Cayenne) and it is selling well and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to sell off the brand, specifically Urus, at this point with all the IP of the entire full-size VAG SUV line on a relatively new chassis that would go along with the sale.

    None of the traditional auto makers can complete with Tesla because Tesla has the thinnest margin. Tesla is an investment startup not looking for profitability but growth. It’s profits are from carbon credits. Lambo is very behind in a good way. No other exotics has NA engines. But the next generations of big and small bulls will lose that. Once lambo loses that differentiation and if it becomes a loss center, it will be hard to keep it within vw. But Stephan won’t mess it up. He is a veteran at keeping the brand on top

    Let me see,

    If VW takes it's existing Audi/Porsche Platforms, changes the body panels, interiors and electronics then charges 3-5x for the same basic frame and drive train under the Lamborghini Label.

    Nah! that won't work :cool:

    My Audi R8 V10 Engine and DSG Transmission are the same as the Lamborghini 5.2L V10 - just detuned a little from the factory.

    I just hope they don't get rid of this awesome engine as nothing sounds quite like it on either platform Audi or Lamborghini.

    In fact the detune is that the throttle doesn't open 100%, that's why it is that easy to get 600bhp out of it with a simple adaption, my 2009 V10 has 600hp and 580Nm Torque.
